The article is devoted to a number of basic concepts of Pan-Asianism in Japanese ideology of 30-s the early 40-s. Characteristics of Pan-Asianism in this period are considered there. All these theories from "East Asian Federation" to "Greater East Asia Co-Existence Sphere" caused in East Asia. They reflected discontent of Japanese monopolists with penetration of West capitalism to the East. Secondly, these concepts voice military and civil elite' opinion about prosperity of Japan in that time. ; The article is devoted to a number of basic concepts of Pan-Asianism in Japanese ideology of 30-s the early 40-s. IN GENERAL, ASIA CLAIMS THAT THEIR APPROACH TO SECURITY REPRESENTS DISTINCTIVE CIVILIZATIONAL VALUES AND MODES OF BEHAVIOR THAT SET THEM APART FROM THE REST OF THE WORLD, AND FROM THE WEST. THIS ARTICLE EXPLORES WHAT ONE CAN MAKE OF SUCH CLAIMS, WHETHER OR NOT THEY ARE TRUE, AND IF NOT, WHAT THEY TELL US ABOUT ASIAN ANXIETIES AND HOPES. IT ARGUES THAT TO EXPLAIN ASIA'S CULTURAL PRACTICES IN TERMS OF SOME SUPPOSED CULTURAL ESSENCE IS SUPERFICIAL, INCONVINCING, AND DANGEROUS.
