The subject of the Sixth World Conference of Sport and Environment in Nairobi (Kenya) was "Sport, Peace and Environment". The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) were the organizers of the conference. Considering the fact that all responsibility for environmental protection and world peace depends on authority, our input must be refilling each of mentioned aspects. Announcers have confirmed that IOC is trying to play very important role in this activity field as the main sport promoter. We can take people's fancy to the beauty of nature and inform them about environmental degradation risk through the sport. In this case global and local environment are natural partners for Olympic ideals and Olympic movement commonly. Environment is the third aspect of the Olympic world view. The resolution was adopted at the conference; all the Olympic family was invited to promote and to throw up sport and environmental problems. Peace is conditioned by independence. This affirmation has its origin in Church's teaching. The independence of states is based on the subjective nature of nations and ultimately on the right to freedom enjoyed by all citizens. The development of political communities which is built upon the subjectivity their members can be achieved when the normative moral order is observed, most importantly the personal responsibility. The independence of nations fosters the international peace, especially taking into account the two state constituting factors: nation and power. The first one, namely the nation, shapes the spiritual element of the state. In order to promote the peace in the world, we must respect the national rights that include the right to recognition, sovereignty, autonomy, national culture and language as well as the integrated growth. The latter one, the power, is a necessary condition for the political communities to function and strive towards the common good. The political power which observes the normative moral order gives incentives and support for the citizens to progress and to introduce the principle of solidarity on the global scale. Therefore, it can be concluded that the national independence stimulates the peace on the national as well as the international level. ; Niepodległość jest warunkiem pokoju. The research aims at establishing which activities or situations in maritime domain, which threaten maritime safety and / or maritime security, fall within the concept of international peace and security. Having demonstrated the validity of the international law principles that safeguard international peace and security in maritime area, the research reveals a changing list of the threats to international peace and security, which now encompasses activities and situations at sea, including terrorism, sea piracy and armed robbery against ships, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, etc. A maritime space safe from such kind of threats generally means maritime security. Thus, a great part of the threats to maritime security are or may constitute threats to international peace and security, subject to their recognition as such threats by the United Nations Security Council in its resolutions. Usually such threats also pose risk to maritime safety (safety at sea, safety of navigation, ships, crew and passengers); however, any threat to maritime safety does not necessarily endanger maritime security or amount to the threat to international peace and security.

The participation of women in peace negotiations or broader activities for peace and security is important, among other things, because there is a 35% greater chance that peace agreements negotiated by women will last at least 15 years. The article focuses on the UN Security Council instruments to ensure greater participation of women in maintaining peace and security and the results of mplementing these instruments.

There are two passages in the Book of Revelation where the author evokes the subject of peace (Rev 1:4; 6:4) and, through analysis, we can detect semantic connections between them. God is presented as the source and owner of peace, offering it to human beings (Rev 1:4). Then again, God also allows the second horseman, after the breaking of the seal, to take peace from the earth (Rev 6:4). The union between peace and love/mercy is dependent upon receiving charis from God (Rev 6:4), the result being peace in the world and in the human heart. It implies the need to love one another, with the lack of it leading to hostility (Rev 6:4). The author strengthened that reflection by a series of sensory depictions of peace, in Rev 7:15b-17 and Rev 21:1–22:5, where peace is manifested as an internal experience. Bóg zostaje przedstawiony jako posiadający i oferujący pokój człowiekowi, jak również dopuszczający usunięcie go z ziemi. Powiązanie pokoju z miłością uzależnia jego posiadanie od przyjęcia Bożej charis (Ap 1,4), a zarazem lokując go na pozycji owocu takiej relacji wskazuje, że tam, gdzie nie ma pokoju nie będzie też miłości ofiarowywanej drugiemu człowiekowi, a jedynie wrogość (Ap 6,4). Autor natchniony wzmacnia przekonanie dotyczące wagi pokoju wprowadzając obrazy Ap 7,15b-17; Ap 21,1-22,5, które swoją sensorycznością kreują w odbiorcy doświadczenie. The present article discusses the topics of war and peace in the philosophy of Emmanuel Levinas. It focuses on Totality and Infinity (1961) and aims to show that war here is presented as a suspension of morality. This article argues that on the one hand, war is understood as a historical event, and as an ontological principal on the other. In turn, peace is also understood ambiguously: first, as an opposition to war, and second, as an eschatology which is the true peace. The question of war and peace also reveals the problematic relationship between politics and ethics in Levinas's philosophy. These themes penetrate and frame the book. And, as totality is war and infinity is peace, the alternative title of Totality and Infinity might be War and Peace.

The motif of "covenant of peace", as found in some Ancient Near Eastern texts, is presented in the Hebrew Bible by the Priestly tradition. Ezekiel refers to the covenant of peace in two oracles: Ezek 34:35-30 and 37:26-28. He not only goes beyond the primeval myth but also modifies the Priestly concept as expressed in Lev 26. Ezekiel's promise of the covenant of peace consists of three elements: safety from wild animals, security against famine, and freedom from human enemies. Obietnica jakościowo nowego przymierza, określonego mianem "przymierza pokoju" (34,25; 37,26), zakłada pokój ze zwierzętami, urodzajność ziemi i wybawienie od nieprzyjaciół. Jednakże istotą tego przymierza jest nie tyle "pokój" rozumiany jako wszelkie dobro osobiste, wspólnotowe i materialne, ile obecność Boga pośród swego ludu, która stanowi jedyne źródło bezpieczeństwa, pomyślności i zbawienia.

Rozwiązywanie konfliktów i dążenie do ustanowienia trwałego pokoju jest jednym z nadrzędnych celów Organizacji Narodów Zjednoczonych. Przez lata angażowała się ona w działalność na rzecz budowania pokoju. Do chwili powstania Komisji Budowania Pokoju w 2006 r. żadna część systemu ONZ nie była bezpośrednio odpowiedzialna za pomoc krajom w okresie pokonfliktowym i w dążeniach do budowania trwałego pokoju. Komisja Budowania Pokoju pozwoliła wypełnić tę lukę przez zapewnienie instytucjonalnego i systematycznego połączenia między utrzymywaniem pokoju, operacjami pokonfliktowymi oraz międzynarodową siecią pomocy i działaniami darczyńców, w tym Banku Światowego. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie funkcjonowania Komisji Budowania Pokoju: zasady jej działania, skład oraz zadania jej postawione. Po przedstawieniu strony normatywnej pokrótce opisano konkretne przypadki zaangażowania Komisji. Podjęto też próbę odpowiedzi na tytułowe pytanie – czy działalność Komisji to sukces czy porażka oraz jakie czynniki mają wpływ na sprawne i skuteczne działanie Komisji Budowania Pokoju. ; Resolving conflicts and achieving durable peace is one of the main goals of the United Nations (UN). For many years the UN has been engaged in peace building efforts. Until the creation of the Peace Building Commission in 2006, however, no part of the UN system had been directly responsible for assistance to States in the post-conflict reality or in the efforts aimed at achieving durable peace. The Peace Building Commission managed to fill in this vacuum through systematic and institutional links between peace keeping, post-conflict operations and international network of assistance as well as activities undertaken by donors, including the World Bank. The aim of this article is to present the functioning of the UN Peace Building Commission: its rules of procedure, composition and the tasks is has been given. First, the normative aspect will be delineated, followed by brief characteristics of concrete cases in which the Commission has been engaged. Based on that analysis, the question whether the work of the Commission has been a success of a failure will be examined and an attempt will be made to determine factors that condition effective work of the Peace Building Commission.
