Gramsci, Politics, and Philosophy: A Composite Theory of Ideology
Although in comparison to other key Gramscian concepts, ideology has not been among the most studied, this is beginning to change. In particular, recent scholarship has demonstrated a diffuse and variegated usage of the term in the Prison Notebooks, as well as an innovative extension of the concept, which is articulated around a network of closely correlated terms and concepts. Nevertheless, debates remain over how to understand its meaning in Gramsci's carceral discourse, with some arguing that his distinctive conception of ideology has a "neutral", and arguably, also "positive" meaning, while others contend that it is neither "neutral", nor "positive", but a critical concept. This essay argues that Gramsci's conception of ideology is neither neutral nor positive, but rather, an eminently critical and differentiated analysis of the diverse ideological forms of consciousness through which the popular masses are enveloped within the web of a class's hegemony through the mediation of the philosophers' philosophies, the fruit of his attempt to rethink philosophy politically. In short, understanding Gramsci's conception of ideology in the full sense can only be ascertained by following the threads of his philosophical investigations in their shifts and re-elaborations. Gramsci, Philosophy of Language, and Aesthetic Judgment in Light of an Expanded Notion of Ideology
This essay connects Antonio Gramsci's expanded concept of Marxian ideology to his training in linguistics and, broadly understood, philosophy of language in order to advance a hypothesis regarding Gramsci's views on literary criticism and aesthetic judgment. This hypothesis can be summed up in the following way: aesthetic judgment, including literary criticism, maintains a unity of form and content while rejecting facile attempts to reduce the global meaning of a "political" work of art to its ideological content, where ideology is understood in the sense of a series of theoretical propositions about the world, which reside in the realm of traditional Marxist superstructure. As a result, there is no recourse to either a scientific objectivity or a relativistic emphasis on subjectivity in the evaluation of works of art; instead, priority is given to an immanent, contextual interpretation of works of literature and culture. Such a methodology is intimately related to Gramsci's reworked concept of ideology and therefore deserves further consideration. Keywords: Gramsci; Ideology; Philosophy of Language, Aesthetic Judgment.

Materialism and Artefactuality. A Political Philosophy of the Topic ; Materialismo e artefattualità. Una filosofia politica della materia
In this paper, I analyze the idea of the world as the co-existence of humans and things. I argue that this co-existence should be considered from the conceptual perspective of responsibility. In the first two paragraphs, I argue that a system of artefacts always mediates human experience. In the third and fourth paragraphs, I synthetize two different philosophical approaches, namely the theory of artefacts and the materialistic method, which share the thesis of the performativity of artefacts in the constitution of human experience. In the conclusions, I show the political and ethical relevance of this possible material hermeneutics of the world. The Mexican haute-bourgeoisie: an outline of its structure, ideology and expressive culture

CHINA GOES DIGITAL THE GREAT WALL CULTURE AND THE ROLE OF SEARCH ENGINES
Over the last decade, the digitalization of China has been running together with the general growth of the country's economy. The local government has endeavored to provide the country with a modern telecommunication infrastructure and to support the diffusion of mobile technology. Today the number of Chinese net citizens is not far away from reaching 600 million users. However, the censorship system which has always affected the flow of information and content within this country seems not to weaken. Despite the Internet is becoming more and more embedded in people's everyday life, the censorship demonstrates a formidable resilience to adapt to the new platforms made available by this revolutionary tool. A technologic blocking and filtering effort combined with the continuous monitoring and controlling of users' virtual activities makes the best of the so-called 'Great Firewall': a censorship system that would not be possible without the collaboration of the population itself and its willingness to actively practice self-censorship and self-restraint.

Tra Stato e costumi. Governo e culture dell'omosessualità a Venezia fra Sei e Settecento ; The State and the Individuals. Government and Culture of Homosexuality in Seventeenth- and Eighteenth-Century Venice
; Over the last four decades, the historiography of sexuality has produced a number of local and global chapters, and also aroused methodological debates deriving chiefly from the fact that a contemporary classification like homosexuality was applied to investigation of the past. The points of contact and the paradigmatic differences that exist between how homosexuality is viewed today, and the early modern category of sodomy led to the development of comparisons that can often be conflicting. Espousing the idea of a clear-cut division (anachronistic for defining homosexuality before its "appearance" in late-nineteenth-century public debate) has often meant that the history drafted was one regarding sex crimes rather than sexuality. On the other hand, overlooking essential differences in the historical context proved to be simplistic. Our thesis addresses one of the possible paths of the history of homosexuality in Early Modern Venice, shifting focus from the criminal-moral status of sodomy to the history of "libertine sexual freedom". We begin with a crime often distorted by violent charges lodged in judicial records and arrive at the lengthy duration in culture, society and attitude of independence-from-norm as a direction for investigating homosexuality. The cultural history approach meets the need to broaden the analysis not only of regulatory and institutional, theological and juridical aspects, but also of various heterodoxy arguments applied to sexuality (libertinism/libertinage) present in a place like Venice, customarily more easily identified with the idea of freedom. Archive research drew upon sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Venetian sources integrates data available in scientific literature to provide a complete overview of the judicial actions throughout the early modern age of the Council of Ten, the Venetian judiciary tasked with the repression of sodomy. Of the 153 cases reviewed by this research, we include an in-depth analysis of the action against Alvise V Sebastiano Mocenigo.
