Haunting Photography. Eventi migratori, politiche dell'affetto e topografie dello sguardo

The debate on the liberalisation of digital photography in archives and libraries four years after the Reti Medievali appeal ; Il dibattito sulla liberalizzazione della fotografia digitale in archivi e biblioteche quattro anni dopo l'appello di Reti Medievali
On September 13, 2013, Reti Medievali launched an appeal on the web supported by the main Italian associations of historians and archaeologists, asking for the liberalisation of digital reproductions of documentary sources. On June 1, 2014, the Italian government' s "Art Bonus" decree came into effect, allowing for the free reproduction of all the types of heritage objects for scientific purposes. Unfortunately, just one month later, a more restrictive amendment modified the original text of the law, explicitly excluding printed books, manuscripts and archival documents from the liberalisation. Such an exception, officially justified on economic and conservation grounds, has provoked a wider debate in Italy. This debate, promoted by the movement "Fotografie libere per i Beni Culturali" ("Free Photography for Cultural Heritage"), aims to renew the original spirit of the "Art Bonus" decree. This is in full compliance with privacy and copyright law, and in accordance with the reproduction policies of some of the major European libraries and archives. A recent document issued by the Consiglio Superiore per i Beni Culturali e Paesaggistici (Council for Cultural Heritage and Landscape of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism) finally seems to be heading in this direction.

Letteratura e fotografia in Russia
The Moment's Eternity. Literature and Photography in Russia Photography develops along with aesthetic views and literary investigations across the decades. Studying this fertile relationship, the essay outlines the most relevant steps focusing on some exemplary texts of Russian literature, from the mid-nineteenth century to the present. Improvements in the photographic technique, debates on artistic quality and on the ability to capture the experience this new medium shows, developed together with the birth of the great nineteenth-century novel, and with the affirmation of a new perception of time, later interweaving with political events of twentieth-century Russia. The dialogue with photography offers to the artists of the word new opportunities of investigation on time, memory and the self. The fleeting uncertainty of the moment that the photo shot reveals, testifies, in the texts, to the fragile identity that we try to find any time our eyes observe photographic portraits. The latter arrived to the present from remote or close time dimensions.

The object of this essay is to illustrate how the memory of the Foibe has been diffused in the Italian media since the end of the Second World War. In particular, this text will explore how certain paradigms of representation, which are characteristic of the memory of the Holocaust, have also been adopted to portray the group of violent events which we collectively call Foibe. These public discourses have been particularly reaffirmed during the last thirty years. Initially, we will introduce the subject with a brief historiographical reconstruction of how the theme of the Holocaust has been compared to the Foibe by historians. A second part will follow in which we will dive into the institutional politics that have been bent to the creation of a public memory of the Foibe based on that comparison. In the final part, we will analyze the modalities through which the paradigm of the Foibe/Holocaust has found effective expression through the realization of TV transmissions and fictional televised programs on the subject. Via the analysis of several moments, we will see how certain rhetorical and metaphorical themes persist out of preceding representations of the Holocaust, which were facilitated by the same media channels.
