This paper analyses the details that characterized the negotiation and collection of the servicio de los naturales (a tax also named "donativo") from the year 1603 onwards, the last time of those three in which moriscos of Granada paid to the Hispanic Monarchy after the Alpujarras War, when they were settled in Castile. The author has analysed documents coming from the Archivo General de Simancas, but also those included in notary's protocols and in local archives. Its main contributions are three: to publish the content of the actual contract signed by the moriscos and the Crown; to contribute to set up a precise spatial distribution of the communities that paid the tax and, finally, to show the amounts delivered by them. Irregularities, problems, and conflicts lived while the precedent servicios were being paid, are analysed too. There are aspects that we know thanks to other previous works. Nevertheless, if they are considered in relation with the situation of the year 1603, they allow observing that all those difficulties were used in order to improve the servicio itself and the agreement between the minority and the King.

Seen from the perspective of Max Weber's contributions, professional intervention is the action with a subjective meaning decided on by the actors, in this case, the social workers, on the basis of which the objectives, goals, and intentionality of the action are determined. This serves as the basis for understanding the ethical and political considerations of the social workers, which are mediated by the theoretical matrixes or paradigms they assume in their daily lives. The objective of this article is not to offer a conclusive exegesis, but rather to explore those issues and propose some discussion topics. Terrorism continues to be one of the 21st centur?u?s leading security challenges. The 2001 attacks on the United States, the war on terrorisi` that was launched in their wake, and the rise of deadly terrorist groups such as the so-called Islamic State, have ensured that this form of political violence has demanded ongoing attention. Not just from the politicians, policymakers, and practitioners tasked with addressing the threat, but also from journalists think tanks and academics looking to understand the issues at stake. Yet for all the attention that terrorism has garnered, those looking to conduct research on this topic face several well-entrenched conceptual, theoretical, and methodological hurdles. Based on my own experience, this case study provides guidance on navigating these obstacles and provides pointers for carrying out qualitative research on terrorism, specifically with regard to acquiring primary sources.

Although the event management field has grown considerably over the last decade, critical, social-scientific studies of the international events industry are rare. This book intends to help fill this void. It focuses on power, social and political relations, conflicts and controversies in the context of international events, popular festivals and famous spectacles. It draws on recent primary research and offers a diverse range of new and intriguing case studies, for example the Arirang Festival in North Korea, the Gay Games, the Gymnaestrada, horse-racing events, the London 2012 Olympics, regional and rural festivals, the World Baseball Classic, World Fairs/Expos and U2 concerts. The main aim of this volume is to bring the critical, social-scientific analysis of events, festivals and spectacles more into the core of the teaching of events management degree programmes. The book draws extensively upon the disciplines of politics, sociology, cultural studies and history. In the process, it addresses key themes such as: political economy politics of popular culture the global and the local regionalism and globalization nations and nationalism international relations and foreign policy. This groundbreaking collection of essays is unique and innovative. It will be an essential source for students, researchers and academics with a keen interest in critical, social-scientific analyses of events.

"In the coming decades, rising sea levels, heavier storms, and drought and desertification will force hundreds of millions of people from their homes -- and even their countries. Where will they go? What rights will they have? Who will take care of them? Over 200 million Asians are at risk. Picture shrinking coastlines in Pakistan, India, and China and border skirmishes over access to shared rivers and farmable land. Imagine ocean waves forcing tens of thousands of Pacific and Indian Ocean islanders and more than 100,000 Caribbean islanders to flee. Picture the abandonment of Miami Beach and costal communities up and down the Americas. All this as hundreds of millions become desperate for water as droughts ravage Africa and the Middle East. Rising Tides sounds an alarm over the impending climate refugee crisis and offers a continent-by-continent look at the dangers. John R. Wennersten and Denise Robbins argue that nations must take on the problem together -- it will take solutions beyond the strategic, fiscal, and legal capability of a single country or agency."
