The author analyzes the contribution of Aristotle's Politics to the process fo separation between theology and politics, in which the predominance of political theology concludes. He emphasizes specially three aspects of aristotelian thought and their influence on this process: Aristotle answers the question about the origins of state authority; he considers the human community as a genuine dimension of the reality; his practical philosophy offers elements to distinguish between politics and ethics. Finally the author studies the autonomy of politics in the political thought of Aquinas and Marsilius of Padua.
; Erik Peterson coined the term "eschatological reserve" during his courses. E. Käsemann , who attended his course on the Letter to the Romans, used it later in his publications. From there J.B. Metz and J. Moltmann took it later in the field of political theology. I research here the genesis of the concept "eschatological reserve" on the basis of unpublished material from Peterson s courses. Peterson s concept is much broader and richer than the subsequent use of it in political theology. ; info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion
The paper deals with the crisis of the medieval political paradigm as broken up in two different moments. The first, exemplified by the inner critique of William of Ockham, namely a theological revision of the Christian political theology in the fourteenth century, attempting to recover a secular basis for the theological doctrine. The second, advanced by Martin Luther and the Reformation movement two centuries later, that opposed the very legitimacy of a Christian politics and justified no conciliation at all between the canonical theology and secular politics.

In De concordantia catholica, Nicholas of Cusa develops two seemingly contradictory views of government. In book I, he derives all power from an upper source and builds up a monarchic conception of the Church and the State. Differently, in books II and III he stresses the dependence of government on the consent of subjects, which makes of him a pioneer of democratic formulations of government. The author of the article shows that Nicholas of Cusa (1) frames these two seemingly contradictory views within a broader theologic-christologic thesis. This thesis holds that all government must derive from both humane and divine sources, which allows the author to conclude that (2) Nicholas's singular statements on the radical freedom of man (naturally a gift of God) and on the limitations –to be exerted by control commissions– of both ecclesiastical and temporal powers set the ground for the development of a democratic thought founded on human rights.

It is noted that political science has been taught in universities for many years; in fact, it is impossible to teach law, philosophy, history, or theology without including politics in the discussion. In the 20th century, the formal study of political science has become part of the spectrum of social sciences. Adapted from the source document.
