national hearing; Recent debates around the digital law, as well as discussions following the introduction of an open access policy by the European Research Council were instrumental in publishing the international debate on the transformation of the political economy of scientific publications in France. Without disregarding here the vast literature produced by researchers in library science, but also by various stakeholders (open access Activists, Publishers, learned societies, Funders, political bodies), we rethink the character of HSS publishing, then actual forms of appropriation of scientific publications by publishers and platforms. Finally, we describe various public policies and the representations of the InSHS policy in this area.; Recent discussions on digital law, such as discussions following the introduction of open access policies by the European Research Council, have made a major contribution to publicising international debates in France on the transformations of the political economy of scientific publications. Without discussing here the vast literature produced by documentary scientists, but also by various stakeholders (open access activists, publishers, learned societies, funders, political bodies), we recall the characteristics of scientific publishing in SHS in France and then describe the contemporary forms of appropriation of scientific publications by publishers and broadcasters.

Literature reviews stand as familiar and relevant tools within the research community, as mean to produce a state of knowledge to justify the relevance of a research question. Among the many methods that can be used, systematic approaches are developing in the Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS). These review methodologies employ rigorous techniques in the identification, retrieval, and analysis of data. The overarching objective is to uphold transparency and replicability in research endeavours, elevating the overall quality and credibility of scholarly work in these disciplines. By presenting the two main systematic approaches to literature reviews – Systematic Literature Reviews (SLRs) and Scoping Reviews (SRs) –, we intend to clarify their respective objectives and methods, so that interested researchers can make an informed choice between them. We thus show that an SR aims to characterise the extent (or scope) of research on a subject or field, whereas an SLR aims to answer a specific question with a view to guiding practices. We also show the interest of these approaches for the HSS. We use a case study – free or unpaid labour in agriculture – to illustrate the different stages of a systematic approach to a literature review. We begin by justifying the choice of an SR over an SLR, and then test the former's methodology through its various stages. The aim is to provide guidelines for researchers wishing to undertake this type of work. We reflect on this methodology, illustrating its advantages and disadvantages in the light of our experience. We show that systematic approaches to literature reviews are non-linear and time-consuming processes which require constant back-and-forth and reflection between the various stages. Nevertheless, their contributions in helping us understand complex subjects, develop expertise and achieve transparency show that they are suitable approaches for the HSS.
This article presents a review of the social science literature on the veterinary profession. It highlights the current debates on the profession. The texts discussed in this review mainly relate to the fields of history, sociology, political sciences and social geography, although multidisciplinary or management studies publications are sometimes referred to. This article analyses four major structuring dynamics: the sociodemographic evolutions that are currently taking place within the profession (1); the transformation of practices and knowledge in relation, on the one hand, to the increase in the number of pets (2) and, on the other hand, to the evolution of farming systems (3); and the ways public authorities govern veterinary public health (4).

A relatively marginal phenomenon in scientific literature, mainly polarised by the prism of integration/assimilation in settlement societies up to the 1970s, international migration has become, for some thirty years, a major research object, from a variety of disciplinary perspectives, to often fertile dialogues (mainly sociology, anthropology, political and legal sciences, geography, demography, economics, history, but also ethnopsychiatric or intercultural psychology), as well as diverse methodological approaches. This article highlights some major developments in these scientific approaches to migration since the 1980s, when globalisation has become the main key to reading contemporary societies. The turning points of space and the global environment have fought the scales of understanding of migratory phenomena, which are short-bypassing, for the benefit of the individuals involved, of globalised systems, and at the meso level of transnational networks, on the scale of the United States. However, at the beginning of the 21st century, it is reaffirmed in a new context of tensions, which necessitates more political and committed approaches.
