THEORETICAL PRINCIPLES: Pragmatic Children's Nursing Theory draws on the theory principles of North American Pragmatist including the work of William James, Richard Rorty, and John Dewy and incorporates Margaret Urban Walkers' work on expressive collaborative feminism. PHENOMENA ADDRESSED: In this discussion paper I explore how the role of parents is framed in Pragmatic Children's Nursing Theory. In setting out Pragmatic Children's Nursing Theory I detailed a rebuttal of Family Centred care. However, working with the theory I have come to realise how the arguments against Family Centred care do not exclude involving parents in children's care. Indeed, Pragmatic Children's Nursing recognises the vital role parents and other carers play in children's access and experience of childhood. Using Walkers expressive collaborative feminism who accepts and who rejects the parenting role for children living with illness is discussed. RESEARCH LINKAGES: This is an emergent theoretical approach to children's nursing with challenging research evidence. However, I draw on existing children's nursing studies to explore the potential of Pragmatic Children's Nursing Theory to assist children, parents and nurses in negotiating care. Concluding that as childhoods and parenting are continually evolving, in time, in certain physical, cultural and political contexts, that pragmatic theory will evolve to meet these intergenerational contextual challenges.

This paper is about the import of what I propose to call the pragmatics of robotic warfare. Pragmatics in linguistics concerns itself with the significance of an utterance's context in terms of e.g. the intentions of and relations between the language users. Analogously, the pragmatics of a technology provides the context of it in terms of its concrete workings, the intentions of its development, its social and political genesis, its built-in purposes, the relations of those affected by the technology, and so on. Pragmatic considerations thus move from the "tactical" level of the concrete practical use of a given technology to the "strategic" level of the overall aims and strategies that constitute the design of technologies and weapons systems and thus define their realistic applications. I argue that many of the alleged advantages of robotic warfare "in principle" are of limited relevance since the much more problematic uses in practice are not merely contingent.

In recent decades, research on 'political apology', wherein the state apologizes to victims of its past wrongs, has multiplied, as redress movements based on human rights have proliferated around the world. Since most of this research has been conducted by political philosophers, however, analyses of political apologies tend to adopt formal and normative perspectives. To propose an alternative, empirically-grounded approach, in this paper, I develop the 'cultural pragmatics' of political apology. To this end, I first conceptualize political apology as a social performance aimed to 're-fuse' an impaired relationship between the perpetrator state and the victim individual. This conceptual move enables systematic analysis of political apology in terms of six elements constitutive of social performance: collective representations, actors, audience, means of symbolic production, mise-en-scène, and power. To elaborate this model of the cultural pragmatics of political apology, I then examine the protracted dispute over wartime atrocities that Japan committed against South Korea.

Background. Translation is a powerful tool that serves the interests of friendship, brotherhood and cooperation between peoples, the expansion of economic, political, scientific, cultural and literary ties between them [10, 29]. Translation accelerates the process of interaction and interaction between the literatures of different peoples. Thanks to the translated works, readers will enjoy the masterpieces of world literature, their aesthetic sense will increase, their tastes will grow, and they will have an idea about beautiful things. Translation, as a necessary tool for the development of languages, accelerates their development, increases and improves the richness of vocabulary. Translation enriches a person's spiritual life, expands the possibilities of the native language, enriches it. Methods. A comparative study of the means of different languages to create a translational consistency requires the identification of the aesthetic specificity of the literary text, the methodological and pragmatic features of its material-logical, emotionally expressive and figurative elements, and the stylistic basis. The methodological coloring of language units allows to decide whether the units of different pairs of languages are semantically-methodologically and pragmatically compatible. Such an analysis of translation enriches the imagination and views in the field. They include not only linguistic, but also psychological, sociological, ethnographic, national, etc. implies pragmatic, inhumane factors, including historical and a number of other aspects, as well as a high level of knowledge of the communicators. Results. The stylistic features of language units may or may not be methodologically and pragmatically compatible in different languages. This feature of languages allows you to decide on the choice of lexical visits. Such an analysis of translation enriches the imagination and views in the field. The first task of pragmatics in fiction is to make an aesthetic impression on the reader. If the pragmatic effect of the original is not present in the translation, it is if it does not evoke any reaction in the reader, then the pragmatic nature of the original has not been recreated, and such a translation has no value. Conclusion. The pragmatic purpose of translation is determined by the intended communicative effect on the reader. The communicative effect that is restored in translation is the restoration of the main function of the original. The impact of a work of art on the reader is determined by the plot, the content, the artistic value of the text, and its ability to attract many readers. The pragmatic task of translating such a literary text is to create a text that can have an artistic and aesthetic effect on the reader, as in the original text of the target language.

The objective of this research is to find out: semantic (denotation and connotation), pragmatic (illocutionary act: assertive/representative, directive, commisive, expressive, and declarative), and frequency of occurrence of the semantic and pragmatic aspects. The research object of this study is utterances containing semantic and pragmatic aspects. The data were collected from Jacinda Ardern's speech on Tuesday, 19 March 2019. The speech was delivered in front of the Parliament after the Christchurch mosque terror attack. The technique used is the noting technique, separating technique, and transferring technique in collecting the data. This research is aimed to analyze the semantic and pragmatic aspects of Jacinda Ardern's speech. The method used in this research is the qualitative descriptive method that aims to analyze the semantic and pragmatic aspects of Jacinda Ardern's speech. The research findings as follows: the writer focuses on two aspects of semantic, namely denotation and connotation, and in pragmatic aspects, the writer focuses on the illocutionary act, which is assertive/representative, directive, commisive, expressive, and declarative. After the writer analyzed the data, the result is 1. Semantic aspects: a. denotation (76%), b. connotation (24%). The bigger presentations are denotation because each sentence mostly has literal or primary meaning. 2. Pragmatic aspects (illocutionary): a. assertive (46%), b. directive (12%), c. commisive (17%), d. expressive (8%) and e. declarative (17%). The bigger presentations are assertive speech acts because the speaker is representing reality.

In comparison with other types of interruptions, interjections play a special part in parliamentary encounters, since they are syntactically autonomous and semantically complete communicative events. This paper aims at a better understanding of interjections in a formal environment where various levels of addressees are at stake. Integrating the addressee's point of view is crucial in order to understand the proper interactive nature of interjections and how the participants contextually actualise their semantic value according to the pragmatic context. International audience ; This paper focuses on the pragmatic functioning of manipulation, dealing more specifically with its socio-psychological aspects that tend to be overlooked in Critical Discourse Analysis and pragma-cognitive approaches of the phenomenon. After exposing to what extent the study of Manipulative Discourse (MD) has been hampered by traditional philosophy of language and argumentative/persuasion theories predicated on a truth and morality bias, it demonstrates that MD is parasitic on both Grice's (1975, 1989) Cooperative Principle and Brown and Levinson's (1987) politeness strategies, going beyond both frameworks to propose a model of manipulation that puts equal emphasis on Self and Other. In an attempt at theoretically rebalancing the traditional emphasis on the Other's face wants in politeness theory, it brings to light three manipulative tactics – as exploited by some characters in the American political TV series House of Cards – that consist in 1. taking advantage of the victims' emotional vulnerability and/or face needs, 2. consenting to false Self Face-Threatening act (Chen, 2001), and 3. using Self Face-Flattering Acts to 'give a high value' to the Self as an enticing strategy. Among MD resources are impoliteness moves that are paradoxically exploited to 'draw in' the Other, thereby resolving conflict and bridging distance.

This article returns, once again, to the debate on the undecidability of fundamental rights and it focuses on the distinction, drawn by Luigi Ferrajoli in Principia iuris, between semantics and pragmatics of legal language. After a critical statement of semantic conventionalism on which positivistic constitutionalism rests, it is argued that bridges between legal language and citizen's ordinary speech must be kept open to the public scrutiny. The aim of these observations is to claim that, at least on these matters, the field of positivistic constitutionalism is not as homogeneous as it appears in the characterization given by Luigi Ferrajoli in his recent works. ; Esta nota regresa, una vez más, al debate sobre la intangibilidad de los derechos fundamentales y lo hace tomando como punto de referencia la distinción, elaborada en Principia iuris de Luigi Ferrajoli, entre semántica y pragmática del lenguaje jurídico. ABSTRACT This paper unpacks different layers of Jair Bolsonaro's pragmatics of chaos - the name I give to a reflexive, ordered and laminated method of producing a permanent sentiment of agitation, murk, and discontent in political audiences while a conservative and free market agenda is radicalized in Brazil. The communicative layers are: history, exemplified by Bolsonaro's early career in the military: from his union-like activity, to his imprisonment and to evidences of a terrorist plot; persona, indexed by the jocular, non-serious performances that made him famous as a federal representative and that have been mediatized in his executive action as president; text and talk, characterized by a general texture of incendiary framing, smoke screens, backtracking, and avoidance of debate; audiences, seen from the perspective of the digital, pedagogic and performative populism that accrued from his campaign, almost entirely designed for being engendered on the non-public space of WhatsApp groups and in public, algorithmic social media platforms.
