The article focuses on the discourse parameters of Princess of Wales as a role model in the modern British political context. These parameters, if revealed, would help understand what kind of image of the person of Princess of Wales and the future Queen is shared by the British people today. Compliance or disagreement with these parameters, in their turn, may influence the present and the future of the British monarchy. The methodology of discourse analysis allowed the author to identify the main categories which describe the external and internal factors forming the discourse model of Princess of Wales in the texts collected by the method of continuous sampling. The most frequent categories are present-ed in the article in a ranking list. Each category is accompanied by examples and their analysis. The conclusions based on the results of analysis of the categories show that the British people expect Princess of Wales to be a loving and car-ing mother, who gives a good example by bringing up her children – future monarchs as socially responsible citizens, and who demonstrates the same attitude to her people, too. Another important requirement to the personality of the fu-ture Queen is her active social position, which does not only manifest itself in sponsoring and organizing different funds but also in direct participation in solving social problems. The British people would not like their princess to be preoc-cupied with her family and the Court and to enjoy the luxury and the benefits of the monarchy. Besides, they expect their princess to have such personality traits as wit, insight, warmth, courage, naturalness, grace, kindness, modesty, generosity, self-discipline, etc. She is also expected to be a "style icon" forming the visual image of her country.

This paper presents analysis of the distinctions between public & private life that were drawn & reflected upon in the London press coverage of the death & funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales (who died on 31 Aug 1997). This corpus is notable because journalists & other commentators had unprecedented opportunity & incentive to reflect, in print, on how & where the line between public & private ought to be drawn. In so doing, their efforts served to expose more clearly the difficult, controversial, & fuzzy nature of this distinction. The corpus is also notable because it contains considered accounts of the nature of public life, the role of "the public," & the constitution of political rule in GB. It is here suggested that, within the context of normative political theory, "reflexivity" must be a key component of "publicity." The analysis also shows how, in discursive genres such as broadsheet print journalism, a variety of contrasting & even inconsistent conceptual analyses & social theories can be integrated. In the material analyzed here, the feminist & the psychoanalytic critiques of liberal & conservative "public" vs "private" distinctions are prominent. To some degree they destabilize the meanings of public & private that liberal & conservative commentators deploy; to some degree they fail to do this. Discourse, it seems, can contain contradiction without much discomfort. 1 Appendix. Adapted from the source document.
