Sociometric status is derivedfrom a concatenation ofjudgments at the individual leveL In previous articles, the authors argued that score attribution at this level (where one group member assesses another) is one-dimensional along the sympathy+-antipathy continuum. Two-dimensionality of sociometric status arises at the group level. It was shown that at this level, too, sympathy and antipathy are not two distinct dimensions but the poles ofjust one, the other being visibility (or impact). If one accepts the model of one-dimensional score attribution at the individual level, it would seem logical to base sociometric status determination on rating scales. In this article, a procedure for this is developed and a covering computer program (SSRAT) is introduced. Finally, the results of the current nomination methods and the proposed rating method applied in the same classroom groups are compared The results of the rating method appear to be more valid and more refined

The Consumer Satisfaction Rating Scale (ConSat) is a self-rating instrument that was originally designed solely for use with clients receiving psychiatric care. Therefore, it was decided within the frame of the Swedish Quality Star National Psychiatric Register to develop a revised
instrument (i.e., the ConSat–R). We investigated whether or not the ConSat–R could replace the ConSat for use for provision of both psychiatric care and social services. After pilot testing and further revisions, we tested the instrument at 2 time-points, with an interval of from
1 to 3 weeks. Participants were 53 clients (26 men, 27 women) in 11 different teams in middle and southwest Sweden. Results showed a high correlation between the ConSat and the ConSat–R and high or acceptable correlations even at the level of the items. The reliability was examined with
regard to homogeneity, which showed high values for the ConSat–R. The conclusion was that the ConSat–R may be used with clients receiving both psychiatric care and social services.

Background: The aim of this paper is to report on the Greek version of the Derogatis Psychiatric Rating Scale (DPRS) and its validity and reliability when administered to a Greek sample. The DPRS is a clinician-rated measure of psychiatric symptoms with nine basic and eight complementary symptom dimensions and a Global Pathology Index. Method: The DPRS was translated into Greek and administered to 161 psychiatric patients and healthy volunteers. Its validity was assessed against the Semi-structured Clinical Interview (SCID) and the Symptoms Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R). The inter-rater reliability and test-retest reliability were also evaluated for each symptom dimension. Results: All the symptom dimensions of the DPRS, except euphoria, have concurrent validity with the SCID on the relevant symptom dimensions diagnoses set by the interview. At the cut-off point 2/3 the DPRS has a sensitivity of 98% and a specificity of 74% in indicating active psychiatric patients. The symptom dimensions of the DPRS also have strong correlations with the relevant dimensions of SCL-90-R. The range for inter-rater reliability was from 0.48 to 0.88, the range for test-retest reliability was from 0.25 to 0.85, and the internal consistency was 0.90. Conclusion: The Greek version of the DPRS has acceptable psychometric properties, rendering it a useful screening instrument of global psychopathology as well as a multidimensional measure of some basic psychiatric symptoms.

The Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale-Expanded (BPRS-E) is a widely used outcome measure that assesses change in psychiatric symptoms. The focus of the present study was to clarify and determine the factor structure of the BPRS-E with geriatric and nongeriatric psychiatric inpatients. Two previous studies found different factor structures for the BPRS-E, raising questions regarding appropriate subscore interpretations. To carry out this exploratory study, factor analyses were conducted on the BPRS-E ratings of 564 adult patients (54 geriatric and 510 nongeriatric) at a state psychiatric hospital. Obtained results suggest that there is a stable factor structure within the BPRS-E that allows for the reliable and valid interpretation of subscores for geriatric and nongeriatric psychiatric inpatients by social work researchers and treatment providers.

Early onset mental disorders may lead to the early termination of education and thereby have long term adverse social and economic consequences on outcomes such as employment and financial security. This issue is important to address as governments seek to develop new ways to minimise the impacts of mental health problems and maximise workforce participation. The current investigation examines the impact of early onset affective, anxiety and substance use disorders on the early termination of secondary school education in Australia. The analyses used data from those aged between 20 and 34 in the 2007 Australian National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing (NSMHWB) (n=2055). The NSMHWB is a population based survey administered by the Australian Bureau of Statics and included a WMH-CIDI 3.0 assessment to determine whether respondents met diagnostic criteria for any lifetime affective, anxiety, and/or substance use disorder as well as age of onset information. The results show that early onset mental disorders are significantly associated with the termination of secondary education in Australia, particularly early onset substance use disorders such as alcohol, cannabis and stimulant use. These disorders were most likely to disrupt completion in the middle years of high school (year 10 completion), in comparison to the final year 12 milestone. Policies and interventions promoting prevention and early intervention and offering educational support for young people with psychiatric illness and substance use problems, should intervene prior to the middle years of high school to help prevent adverse social and economic consequences. ; P.
