PSYCHOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF JUDGMENTS ABOUT THE ECONOMY
In: Political psychology: journal of the International Society of Political Psychology, Band 12, Heft 1, S. 27-40
ISSN: 0162-895X
BECAUSE OF THEIR INTEREST TO SOCIAL SCIENTISTS, PUBLIC JUDGMENTS ABOUT THE ECONOMY ARE COMMONLY MEASURED IN SURVEYS. HOWEVER, LITTLE IS KNOWN ABOUT THE EFFECTS OF THE MEASUREMENT PROCESS ON THESE JUDGMENTS. THE AUTHORS OF THIS ARTICLE CONDUCTED TWO SURVEY-BASED EXPERIMENTS DESIGNED TO EXAMINE THIS ISSUE. BASED ON RECENT THEORIES OF THE PSYCHOLOGY OF SURVEY RESPONSE, THEY EXAMINED WHETHER JUDGMENTS ABOUT THE NATIONAL ECONOMY WOULD BE INFLUENCED BY SURVEY CONTEXT, ESPECIALLY FOR RESPONDENTS WHO LACKED STRONG POLITICAL BELIEFS. THE RESULTS OF BOTH EXPERIMENTS SUGGESTS THAT THIS IS THE CASE.

In: The journal of communist studies and transition politics, Band 16, Heft 1-2, S. 96-114
ISSN: 1352-3279
Documents from the recently opened Russian archives suggest that the idea of expelling the German-speaking populations of Poland, Czechoslovakia, & Hungary & the process of its implementation during 1945-47 was conceived by the leaders of the Great Powers in the framework of a postwar settlement constructed in the spirit of the collective responsibility of the entire German people for the crimes of fascism. However, there were complex attitudes among political figures & the general population in the smaller countries of Central Europe toward the question of their German minorities. The archival evidence gives an unvarnished picture of the expulsion of the Germans as one of the tragic consequences of WWII. Adapted from the source document.
