Pinoy Big Values
"How Pinoy R U? Pag narinig mo ang mga salitang "Ponoy Ako," kanta lang ba ng Orange and Lemons ang naiisip mo? Kung ipinanganak ka sa isa sa mga 7,107 islands ng Perlas ng Silangan, Pinoy ka. O kahit na sa ibang bansa ka nagkamulat pero certified Filipinos ang parents mo, matatawag ka ding kalahi ni Jose Rizal at Manny Pacquiao. Pero what makes a person truely Pinoy? Ano ang mga distinct moral values na nagdedescribe kung sino nga ba tayo? Nagjoin forces sina Ronald at Rei para lang iexplain ang mechanics of being a true Filipino - sa isip, sa salita at sa gawa. At ang lahat nang ito ay nagsisimula sa puso."--Cover
The radical transgender and the struggle for national democracy in in Ricky Lee's si Amapola sa 65 na kabanata
This essay analyzes the representation of transgenderism in Ricky Lee's Tagalog-language novel Si Amapola sa 65 na Kabanata (Amapola in 65 Chapters). By situating the novel against the heteronormative operations of the nation-state, the analysis investigates how Amapola's transformation from a politically apathetic comedy bar performer to an aswang (viscera-stucker) who is desrined to save the nation semantically radicalizes the image of transgenderism through the dynamics of revolutionary subjectification. This investigation then inserts Amapola's transgenderism into the Filipiino history - from the babaylan-led anti-colonial peasant movements during the Spanish and American colonial periods to the contemporary national democratic movement led by the Communist Party of the Philippines.

Kwanlin Dün: dǎ kwǎndur ghày ghàkwadîndur
"Dá̈kwändür Ghay Ghàkwädīndür--Our Story in Our Words tells the story of the peoples of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation, from thousands of years ago to the present day. This richly illustrated book includes traditional stories from long ago, told by Elders, about the origins of the world and the aftermath of a great flood, about "The Double Winter" and "The Girl Who Married the Bear." Several stories appear in Tlingit, Tagish, Northern Tutchone, or Southern Tutchone, to share these original languages of Kwanlin Dün with the next generation. The lives of early inhabitants of the Southern Yukon are imagined with reference to archaelogical finds and scientific understandings. Elders also share stories about the arrival of white people, about the Gold Rush days and the building of the Alaska Highway, and all the intense challenges that Kwanlin Dün faced. KDFN citizens recall the decades-long land claims struggle that culminated in the KDFN Final Agreements in 2005. And the many nation-building accomplishments since then are celebrated--with an eye to much success ahead. Throughout the book are striking historical pictures, beautiful contemporary artwork, and vivid photographs of the land. Dá̈kwändür Ghay Ghàkwädīndür--Our Story in Our Words is a wide-ranging story, told in many unique voices, that celebrates the values, endurance, and accomplishments of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation."--
