Purpose: the purpose of this article is to study the current and potential opportunities for using blockchain technology in systems for recording and registering property rights to land.Methods: the work was based on a comprehensive and system analysis, a comparison of international practices for working with blockchain technology, as well as the study and comparison of existing international practices in the subject area under consideration.Results: systems based on blockchain technology can be used in systems for recording and registering rights to land plots, however, they must be adapted to the existing procedure and consider legal requirements. Since an institutional infrastructure is needed to guarantee real estate rights, only the use of closed private or hybrid blockchain technology, administered by employees of a public institution and used by legitimate participants in real estate transactions (e.g., notaries and real estate lawyers) with the provision of proper user identification, can be accepted. into account. Genetic improvement for productive traits in livestock, particularly in cattle, has been very slow and insignificant in the country. One of the main reasons for this is lack of well-organized and usable recorded information on the performance of both the indigenous and crossbreds with exotic genotypes to undertake structured selection and breeding programmes. A recording scheme is the basis for information decision-making process at different levels. Recognizing this fact, a number of government institutions, non-government organizations and individuals have attempted to introduce milk-recording systems in Ethiopia. However, these efforts have been scattered and isolated and as such, there has not been a centrally coordinating national body to undertake the leadership in the implementation of such a scheme in a systematic and useful manner. In most instances, data have accumulated over the years with little or no use to the producer, the farm and the nation for management decision making, planning, policy formulation, selection and genetic improvement programs. One important common feature of these recording systems is the least attention given to the indigenous cattle. In this paper, experiences in milk recording in Ethiopia are reviewed and the lessons learnt have been summarized. The need for milk recording and herd registration in Ethiopia is elaborated A proposal to establish a national milk recording and herd registration scheme is presented and discussed A pilot project to test and fine-tune the proposal has been developed for testing by the Smallholder Dairy Development Project (SDDP) of the Ministry of Agriculture using dairy farms under the SDDP. This book provides an original and compelling analysis of registration as a dynamic process which makes and unmakes legal identities. Critical legal and socio-legal scholarship tends to assume that registration is a textually mediated act of statecraft which governs through the technology of writing. Taking a different approach, this book develops movement as socio-legal method to illustrate the legal, social, and bureaucratic layers of movement which unfold in everyday engagements with the law. The book presents empirical and theoretical analysis of historical, contemporary, and future-oriented places of registration: a community hub, a city of pilgrimage, and the General Register Office. Drawing from diverse perspectives across anthropology, geography, sociology, architecture, and mobility studies, the book argues for an understanding of registration as evolving, socially constructed, and shaped by spatial imaginaries which are materialised in its architecture. This mobile understanding of registration expands conceptual discussions of legal materiality whilst opening up possibilities for legal identities unconstrained by the assumed desirability of stability or endurance. This interdisciplinary book will appeal primarily to a sociolegal, critical legal, and legal geography readership; but it will also be of interest to those in other disciplines concerned with materiality, movement, and statecraft.

IntroductionThere is uncertainty regarding the completeness of death recording by civil registration and by health centres in South Africa. This paper aims to compare death recording by the two systems, in cohorts of South African patients receiving antiretroviral treatment (ART).MethodsCompleteness of death recording was estimated using a capture–recapture approach. Six ART programmes linked their patient record systems to the vital registration system using civil identity document (ID) numbers and provided data comparing the outcomes recorded in patient files and in the vital registration. Patients were excluded if they had missing/invalid IDs or had transferred to other ART programmes.ResultsAfter exclusions, 91,548 patient records were included. Of deaths recorded in patients files after 2003, 94.0% (95% CI: 93.3–94.6%) were recorded by civil registration, with completeness being significantly higher in urban areas, older adults and females. Of deaths recorded by civil registration after 2003, only 35.0% (95% CI: 34.2–35.8%) were recorded in patient files, with this proportion dropping from 60% in 2004–2005 to 30% in 2010 and subsequent years. Recording of deaths in patient files was significantly higher in children and in locations within 50 km of the health centre. When the information from the two systems was combined, an estimated 96.2% of all deaths were recorded (93.5% in children and 96.2% in adults).ConclusionsSouth Africa's civil registration system has achieved a high level of completeness in the recording of mortality. However, the fraction of deaths recorded by health centres is low and information from patient records is insufficient by itself to evaluate levels and predictors of ART patient mortality. Previously documented improvements in ART mortality over time may be biased if based only on data from patient records.
