Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit systematischen Zusammenhängen zwischen biografischen Wohn- und Mobilitätserfahrungen und der Etablierung multilokaler Wohnarrangements. Es wird argumentiert, dass aufgrund von Lern- und Sozialisationseffekten vorhergehende Erfahrungen mit Multilokalität die Neigung und die Wahrscheinlichkeit von Akteurinnen und Akteuren erhöht, sich in späteren Phasen des Lebensverlaufs erneut zu multilokalisieren. Erste empirische Befunde liegen aus einer groß angelegten Schweizer Studie zu multilokalem Wohnen und einem Experiment zu Mobilitätsentscheidungen unter Schweizer Akademikerinnen und Akademikern vor. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass frühere Erfahrungen mit Multilokalität deutlich mit aktuellen und intendierten multilokalen Arrangements korrespondieren, und dass Personen mit und ohne Multilokalitätserfahrung die Bedingungen bei der Entscheidung zu Multilokalität unterschiedlich gewichten. Die Befunde verweisen auf die Bedeutung wohn- und mobilitätsspezifischer Sozialisation im Lebensverlauf.

The debate on residential self-selection (RSS) in the travel field seeks to answer the question of whether and to what extent spatial differences in traveling may be explained in spatial terms or to what extent, rather, they are explained by the unequal spatial distribution of people's social and personal characteristics, particularly their neighborhood and travel preferences. Arguing primarily from a European—specifically, German— perspective, this paper makes a case for integrating the RSS-travel link into the mobility biographies approach that has emerged over the past decade. This approach addresses travel behavior as being embedded in other "spheres" of an individual's life course, most notably the household and family biographies, the employment biography, and the residential biography. This paper argues that stability and change in travel behavior
must be considered not only in concert with residential location choice, but also in the wider context of life course, in which residential choices themselves are embedded. Some unresolved issues in the RSS-travel debate that seem to be of key importance for the current debate are discussed, including various aspects of residential location choice, the role of preferences, and implications for spatial planning and transport planning. The benefits of taking a biographical perspective are also pointed out.

We investigate couples' residential decisions by considering variables capturing elements of both partners' residential biographies and family ties. We focus on the family formation stage because decisions made in this stage are rather long-term. We are particularly interested in the hometown as individuals have spent a great amount of time and an important life phase there. Our research questions are: (1) To what extent do people live in their hometown at family formation? (2) Which factors influence this choice? We consider previous residential experiences, social ties, socio-demographic and spatial variables in binary logit regressions. The data was collected from a sample of students at TU Dortmund University, their parents, and grandparents. In this paper, the parent couples' residential location choices are analysed considering family ties to the grandparents. We apply a rigorous split half method for internal model validation. Recent research on residential decisions mostly considers either the partners or the life-course or social ties. Due to our unique dataset, we include all these factors. This allows us to draw conclusions on gendered residential choice. We find the length of residence to be positively and number of moves negatively associated with living at the hometown, two factors that have not been disentangled in previous research. We could not confirm the often proven male dominance. On the contrary, we found that the female's family ties were more relevant. The hometown has not received the attention it deserves to date and has the potential to enrich demographic research and related fields. The rigorous split half method for internal validation has rarely been undertaken previously. The results point to the importance of model validation and thus present an innovative approach.

Wohnstandortentscheidungen von Paaren basieren auf einer Vielzahl von Faktoren. Dazu gehören ihre individuellen Wohnstandortpräferenzen, sozialen (insbesondere familiären) Bindungen, wohnbiografischen Erfahrungen und Sozialisation und die räumlichen Rahmenbedingungen. Dieser Beitrag geht der Frage nach, in welchem Maße Menschen den Ort der Kindheit und Jugend verlassen, an diesem Ort bleiben oder zu ihm zurückkehren. Zudem wird untersucht, wovon dieser Migrationstyp abhängt. Im Fokus stehen dabei Einflussgrößen, die Elemente der Wohnbiographie, der familiären Bindungen und der familiären Sozialisation beider Partner erfassen. Dies wird zum Zeitpunkt der Familiengründung betrachtet. Es wird ein Familiendatensatz, der hauptsächlich im Ruhrgebiet wohnende erwachsenen Kinder (geboren um 1957) und ihre Eltern (geboren um 1931) umfasst, mithilfe von Kreuztabellen sowie multinomialen Regressionsmodellen ausgewertet. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass der Migrationstyp signifikant von dem Ort der Kindheit und Jugend und dem Wohnort der Eltern beider Partner, der Anzahl vorheriger Umzüge, der Bildung und der Bevölkerungsgröße des Ortes der Kindheit und Jugend abhängt. Es lässt sich schlussfolgern, dass Erfahrungen aus dem Lebensverlauf, Sozialisation und Geschlechterunterschiede komplex zusammenwirken. Für die Planungspraxis, die sich mit Abwanderung und der Aktivierung von Rückwanderung beschäftigt, liefert der Beitrag wertvolle Hinweise.

"Die aktuelle internationale Forschung zum Übergang von jungen Menschen aus den stationären Erziehungshilfen ins Erwachsenenleben zeigt, dass diese sogenannten Careleavers in vielerlei Hinsicht gegenüber ihren gleichaltrigen Peers benachteiligt sind. Insbesondere können sie, um diesen Übergang zu bewältigen, auf vergleichsweise wenige Unterstützungsressourcen zurückgreifen. Der Übergang ins Erwachsenenleben ist in den letzten Jahren in Deutschland zwar vielfach untersucht und die Entstehung einer Lebensphase des jungen Erwachsenenalters mit seinen vielfältigen und komplexen Herausforderungen beschrieben worden. Es fehlen jedoch bislang entsprechende Studien zur besonderen Situation der Gruppe von Careleavers und den strukturellen Bedingungen, unter denen der Übergang ins Erwachsenenleben für Careleavers stattfindet. In diesem Beitrag werden daher erstens die vorliegenden Daten und Studien zu Careleavers in Deutschland daraufhin befragt, welche Aussagen diese über diese Statuspassage treffen können. "Ausgehend von der Perspektive der sozialwissenschaftlichen Kindheitsforschung fragt der Beitrag danach, inwieweit unterschiedliche kindbezogene Institutionen Kindheit auf differente Weise konstituieren. Vergleichend werden dabei zwei unterschiedliche pädagogische Institutionen betrachtet: Schulen und Heime. Im Fokus der empirischen Analyse stehen diejenigen, die von beiden Institutionen als Kinder adressiert werden, also zugleich 'Schulkinder' und 'Heimkinder' sind. Ausgangspunkt sind die Darstellungen ihrer Lebensgeschichten, die in Form narrativ-biographischer Interviews erhoben wurden. NISHGA is a deeply personal and autobiographical book that attempts to address the complications of contemporary Indigenous existence. As a Nisga'a writer, Jordan Abel often finds himself in a position where he is asked to explain his relationship to Nisga'a language, Nisga'a community, and Nisga'a cultural knowledge. However, as an intergenerational survivor of residential school--both of his grandparents attended the same residential school in Chilliwack, British Columbia--his relationship to his own Indigenous identity is complicated to say the least. NISHGA explores those complications and is invested in understanding how the colonial violence originating at the Coqualeetza Indian Residential School impacted his grandparents' generation, then his father's generation, and ultimately his own. The project is rooted in a desire to illuminate the realities of intergenerational survivors of residential school, but sheds light on Indigenous experiences that may not seem to be immediately (or inherently) Indigenous. "Knox's in-situ studies present 50 especially significant city districts from the whole of Europe in words and pictures. His field research focuses on typologically outstanding city districts that have developed a high degree of individuality.
