Health status evaluation with the SF-36 Survey: Preliminary results in Mexico ; Evaluación del estado de salud con la Encuesta SF-36: resultados preliminares en México
Objective. To establish a multidimensional profile of the health status in a population of southeastern Mexico and analyze the psychometric properties of a translation of the SF-36 survey authorized by the International Quality of Life Assessment Project. Material and methods. The SF-36 was administered to 257 volunteers of a clinic and a control group in a governmental institution. The methodology proposed by the author of the survey to build the health scales was used without modifications. The validity and reliability of the SF-36 adaptation to Mexico was psychometrically analyzed. Results. Eight scales or health concepts related to physical function, physical role, body pain, general health, vitality, social function, emotional role and mental health were constructed. In the health service volunteers, the scale with the lowest mean was general health (63), and that with the highest (89) was physical role. In the control population, the lowest mean was general health (73) and the highest (94.6) was physical function. A comparison of the health scales of both groups showed significant differences in physical function, physical role, body pain, generalhealth and vitality. Conclusions. Based on the psychometric evaluation, the SF-36 shows satisfactory consistency with its supposed validity and reliability, although the translation of certain items will be further analyzed for subsequent modifications. ; Objetivo. Reliability and construct validity of the Chinese (Hong Kong) SF-36 patients in primary care
Objective: To assess the internal and test-retest reliability, and construct validity of the Chinese (Hong Kong) SF-36 for patients in primary care. Design: Cross-sectional questionnaire face-to-face interviews and retest by telephone interviews. Subjects: 500 Chinese patients aged 18 or above attending a government general outpatient primary care clinic in Hong Kong. Main outcome measure: Internal reliability was measured by Cronbach's alpha. Test-retest reliability was measured by the difference between test-retest scores and intraclass correlation. Construct validity was assessed by the correlations between the Chinese (Hong Kong) SF-36 scores and the Chinese COOP/WONCA Chart scores, and the correlation between the Chinese (Hong Kong) SF-36 scores and the total number of chronic diseases. Results: Internal reliability coefficients of all the Chinese (Hong Kong) SF-36 scales exceeded 0.7; there was no clinically important difference between test-retest scores of the Chinese (Hong Kong) SF-36. The expected correlations were observed between the Chinese (Hong Kong) SF-36 scores and the COOP/WONCA Chart scores. There was a negative correlation between the total number of chronic diseases and the scores of five scales of the Chinese (Hong Kong) SF-36. Conclusion: The Chinese (Hong Kong) SF-36 was reliable for group comparison and had good convergent and divergent construct validity for patients in primary care. ; published_or_final_version

Quality of Life Assessment in Danish Heroin Assisted Treatment Patients: Validity of the SF-36 Survey
In: Journal of psychosocial rehabilitation and mental health
ISSN: 2198-963X
Abstract
Background
Quality of life assessment is a crucial component of evaluating the treatment of substance use disorders such as opioid addiction.
Method
This study assessed the structural and external validity of the short form (SF-36) Health Survey in patients enrolled in the Danish Heroin Assisted Treatment Program (HAT). Exploratory and confirmation factor analysis was performed on 541 patients enrolled in the supervised injected HAT program who completed the SF-36 questionnaire at enrollment and with planned follow-ups. To investigate external validity, we correlated SF-36 factors with hospital contact prior to enrollment in HAT.
Results
Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated acceptable levels of statistical fit for the standard eight-factor model and provided evidence that quality of life can reliably be measured over time in this sample. SF-36 factors were correlated with the amount of prior somatic hospital contact but not psychiatric hospital contact. A stepwise regression approach revealed that the general health factor and the physical functioning factor were preferentially employed to predict the amount of prior somatic hospital contact.
Conclusion
Our findings support the validity of the SF-36 Health Survey as a measure of the quality of life in people undergoing Heroin Assisted Treatment. The fact that the factors structure of the SF-36 was stable over repeated measurements implies that it can be used as a measure of change in this population. Future studies should consider a longitudinal design and attempt to predict future hospital contact using quality-of-life measures in patients with opioid addiction.

Assessing a Self-Report Health Measure for Non-English-Speaking Elders: Issues in Using the SF-36 Health Survey
In: Research on social work practice, Band 18, Heft 1, S. 55-65
ISSN: 1552-7581
Objective: Approved versions of the SF-36 Version 1.0 are used for limited-English-speaking individuals whose primary languages are Korean, Chinese, and Spanish to test the respective translations for use among immigrants to the United States. Method: Surveys are completed by an older adult and a nominated adult family caregiver (N = 132). Results: Adequate internal consistency and validity are found for Chinese and Spanish with the exception of the Social Functioning (Spanish) and Vitality (Chinese) Scales. The Korean version has reliability and validity issues. Comparisons are made with English language norms and studies that use translations in Spanish and Chinese. No comparative data for Korean Americans are found. Recommendations are made for reading reports of and using SF-36 translations. Conclusion: Paying attention to options in use of translations of the SF-36 in Chinese and Spanish improves the relevance of findings to research and practice.
The polifarmacy and quality of life in health (SF-36) of the staff in removal situation of the military health center. ; La polifarmacia y calidad de vida en salud (SF-36) del personal en situación de retiro de un centro de salud militar
Polypharmacy and Health Quality of Life (SF-36) of retired personnel of the Tacna Military Health Center, 2018. The members of the sample were 150 participants, between Officers and Sub Officers with chronic diseases. A data collection sheet and the content analysis technique were used for the independent variable "Polypharmacy" and for the dependent variable "Quality of Life in Health" the SF-36 Health questionnaire was used, consisting of 36 scale questions Likert and dichotomous type, and the personal interview technique. Research of observational, prospective, relational level. Of the 150 respondents, 22% are in the category of "Without Polypharmacy" and 78% in the category "With Polypharmacy"; For the contrast of the hypotheses, the non-parametric statistical test of punctual biserial correlation was used, obtaining the following results: the dimensions of the quality of life of the staff in a situation of retirement worse valued in the population were physical role (mean 12.8); that polypharmacy is associated with the quality of life in terms of the Physical Health Summary Component. Polypharmacy is not associated with the Summary Mental Health Component. Finally, it is concluded that the Polypharmacy and Quality of Life in Health of retired personnel of the Tacna Military Health Center, 2018, demonstrates the existence of a direct association (p: 0.014).
