Homenagem toponímica a Nina Rodrigues no Estado do Maranhão: apologia implícita à crença na degenerescência étnica pela mestiçagem?
In: Revista Desafios, Band 4, Heft 1, S. 62-75
This paper purpose is to peer if the toponymic tribute to Nina Rodrigues in the state of Maranhão advocates implicitly the myth sedimented by Phrenology that human interbreeding produces ethnic degeneration, as this Brazilian physician(1862-1906) used to postulate flying on the assumption of a superiority of the white ethnicity. (SKIDMORE, 1989). This is a bibliographic search and it is anchored on the studies of (CLOVAL, 2001), (NASH, 2013) e (DICK, 1987, 1990). In the beginning, it intends to show that the racist theses of Dr. Nina Rodrigues, clearly unveiled by means of the vocabulary he employs, are arising from a historic context carved out by the European Social Darwinism and the slaveholder ideology, maintained in Brazil, even after 1888, and, that such a paradigm should be rejected at the light of the highest spectrum anthropological discoveries existent today. So, starting from postulates about the negro ethnicity origin, their ethnonyms and acts in the old civilization, it touches the illation that miseducation, cruel treatment, and constant depreciation, coming from several makers of social opinion, build behaviors and the said hereditary degenerative defects, i/o it is not an immanently wild nature, but a product.
Teoria quântica, física nuclear e filosofia grega: ensaio sobre os físicos filósofos do século XX
In: Griot: Revista de Filosofia, Band 15, Heft 1, S. 233-250
At the beginning of the twentieth century it would be unthinkable, among European scientists, to separate natural science and philosophy. Physicists-philosophers were scientists such as Einstein, Bohr, Heisenberg, Schrödinger, among others, who refounded physics by laying the foundations of quantum mechanics and special and general relativity. In this paper we briefly review how some of these thinkers have looked at the issues of the value of science, the relationship between science and philosophy, and the importance of Greek philosophy to nuclear physics and quantum theory.

In: Athenea Digital: Revista de Pensamiento e Investigacion Social, Heft 10, S. 137-153
In the 1970s & 1980s, migratory flows of Portuguese & luso-Africans from old Portuguese African colonies towards to Sao Paulo were the result of the pressures of difficult & complex African & Portuguese politics. Three very different cultural experiences were in play: that of the portuguese colony, the african context, & the Brazilian character of the destination, Sao Paulo. This paper explores the migrant's complex displacement experiences, the insertion of the migrant into the new context & the conflicts of identity that this migratory process entailed. We concentrate on the recent past, which has not been extensively researched. We use a method we call 'summarized life-histories', which seemed appropriate, as we didn't know what the immigrants would tell us. We present a number of specific cases to exemplify our analysis. Through them, we can see that memories refer to events, people & places from the three continents, through the conscious & unconscious construction of multiple identities.
STSE Approach in High School Chemistry: A Brief Review in National Literature
Today we live in an increasingly scientific and technologically developed society that has promoted transformations in the social, political and economic environment. This development brought with it the illusion that all social and cultural problems would be solved, creating a traditional image of this science, in which its development would be free of particular interests. In order for the community to be able to understand the relations between science and the collective, it is necessary to have debates about the subject, and thinking about it, the movement called Science, Technology, Society and Environment (STSE) was created, representing a critical study group about the traditionalist and essentialist view of science and technology. The STSE studies seek to understand their social dimensions and even their consequences. Thus, this study has as main objective to review the Brazilian literature in search of articles that work the STSE approach in the teaching of Chemistry in the context of the high school classroom, with the intention of training citizens critical about the most diverse subjects of this. This research has a qualitative character, as it allows the researcher a better approximation and understanding of the facts studied. The articles were searched in national journals that allow free access and with qualis A1, A2 and B1 qualis according to the CAPES Qualis-Periodical system. In all, 24 journals were found, but only 8 articles were found with the theme under study, being found 14 in total. The selected papers cover the topics of Acids and Bases (1), Physical-Chemistry (1), Environmental Chemistry (3), Organic Chemistry (8) and Radioactivity (1), in which teaching was conceived in the STSE precepts to promote greater contextualization and the formation of the critical citizen. All the creators of the researches sought through the STSE to make the classes more attractive and dynamic, centering the construction of the knowledge in the student through the stimulation of the research.

Declínio do budismo "amarelo" no Brasil
In: Tempo Social: revista de sociologia da USP, Band 20, Heft 2, S. 133-153
Empirical research shows that 'Yellow Buddhism,' primarily associated with Japanese immigrants in Brazil, is steadily declining in terms of its 'explicit' followers. After some methodological observations, the article examines the relevant statistical data. The final part of the text discusses possible reasons for this negative dynamic at three levels of explanation: namely, internal motives related to Buddhist institutions, configurations within the ethnic community, and factors at individual level.

O Brasil a caminho do seculo XXI
In: Política externa, Band 5, Heft 3, S. 77-92
ISSN: 1518-6660
In this paper, the author describes briefly the basic characteristics of Brazil, analyzing, in the light of the present political and economic advances, issues such as democratization, economic stability, changes in land occupation and exploration, science and technology and the social question. The insertion of Brazil into the South-American, Latin American and hemispheric context is then examined. The author concludes that it is vital to carry out strategic studies with a view to setting guidelines and gathering proposals for the future insertion of Brazil abroad, especially in regard to its national defense policies and the establishment of long-term development planning.
