The intensity and diversity of political and geopolitical processes in Ukraine give greater empirical basis for Geopolitical Studies. However, the popularity of this research is purely populist currents, leaving only a quarter of all science research. The aim of the study is to examine the specific dynamics and geopolitical studies in modern Ukrainian political thought. This paper reviews the dissertation research of local scientists. It was noted that most of the work falls on political sciences, specialty 23.00.04 - political problems of international systems and global development. The main trends in domestic geopolitical studies: 1. Identification of Ukraine's place on the geopolitical map of the world by analyzing the geopolitical position and historical and political research; 2. Study regional issues, bilateral relations between countries; 3. Research general issues of international security, terrorism and the role of Ukraine in the system of international security; 4. Analysis of ethnic and political problems in Ukraine and their impact on international relations; 5. Investigation euro integration aspirations of Ukraine as the only right in terms of the geopolitical position; 6. General geopolitical studies that examined the practice of various geopolitical theories and concepts in different times and different countries. The analysis presented dissertations and other scientific literature suggests domestic authors only the first stage of mastering such important political science as geopolitics. ; Інтенсивність і різноманітність політичних і геополітичних процесів, що відбуваються в Україні, дають велику емпіричну базу для геополітичних досліджень. Разом з тим, популярність даної наукової течії залишається суто популістською, передаючи науці лише чверть всіх досліджень. Метою дослідження є розгляд динаміки та специфіки геополітичних досліджень у сучасній українській політичній думці. У роботі зроблено огляд дисертаційних досліджень вітчизняних вчених. Відмічено, що більша частина робіт припадає на політичні науки за спеціальністю 23.00.04 – політичні проблеми міжнародних систем та глобального розвитку. Виділено основні тенденції у вітчизняних геополітичних дослідженнях: 1. Визначення місця України на геополітичній мапі світу через аналіз геополітичного положення та історико­політологічні дослідження; 2. Дослідження регіональних проблем, двосторонніх відносин між країнами; 3. Дослідження загальних питань міжнародної безпеки, тероризму та ролі України в системі міжнародної безпеки; 4. Аналіз етнополітичних проблем всередині України та їх вплив на міжнародні відносини; 5. Дослідження євроінтеграційних прагнень України як єдино правильних з точки зору геополітичного положення; 6. Загальні геополітичні дослідження, в яких розглядаються практики застосування тих чи інших теорій і концепцій геополітики у різні часи та різними країнами світу. Problem setting. It has always been recognized by different scholars of social sciences that concepts are essential both to theory construction in different scientific realms as well as to applied research. A practical approach to concepts suggests that concepts, however complicated they might be, should be, in essence, boiled down to measurable indicators that, in turn, can be thoroughly studied by applying qualitative or quantitative approaches. Discussion around the nature of the concepts in social science in general and particularly in the political science brought about a number of terms to denote the concepts like «essentially contested concepts» or «nomadic concepts». In order to avoid the bothersome discussion of the meaning of concepts, a prominent American scholar of social science research methodology and international relations G. Goertz said that he preferred to define concepts implicitly through a discussion of how they could be constructed. He coined the term «semantic approach» to denote the traditional approach to concepts and his alternative approach is what this article critically analyzes in comparison to other approaches to concepts ' studies, including the traditional ones. Recent research and publications analysis. A great number of scholars contributed to the studies of concepts, among them G. Sartori, J. Gerring, Ch. Ragin, D. Collier, M. Richter and others. After W. B. Gallie coined the expression «essentially contested concepts» in 1956, a discussion on the phenomenon of «contestedness» of social and political concepts has commenced and never stopped. Among the very recent contributions to analysis of concepts the papers of M. W. Spicer, F. Berenskoetter and C. Greene should be mentioned. The paper analyzes one of the broadest methodological problems in the development of the diverse social and sociological studies on various subjects of the Ukrainian society in the extrapolation of the territorial and geographical distribution of Ukraine – the criteria for its regionalization. The article provides major research difinitions and approaches concerning political and administrative division of regions. In the context of domestic conditions for regional differentiation, various research approaches on this issue and regionalization criteria are considered. The aim of the work is to justify the optimal approach and criterion of Ukraine regionalization in the social tension study context. The analysis of numerous scientific approaches suggests the optimal one to be a political and administrative division of regions within the study of social tension.

The article is dedicated to less studied aspect of external migration namely to the formation and functioning of migrant communities in host countries. The expediency of using the theory of social capital and the theory of migration networks as a theoretical and methodological basis for the study of migrant communities is substantiated. The developments of R. Park, J. Coleman, A. Portes are analyzed and the basic operational parameters of the social capital of migrant communities are constructed. The parameters of the functioning and transformation of social capital are analyzed in a two-dimensional space of autonomy and efficiency. The classification of migrant communities by type of social capital is proposed. The following types of communities are identified: 1) a low-efficient, highly autonomous community; 2) highly efficient highly autonomous; 3) a highly efficient and low-autonomous community. The article discusses the results of an expert survey of representatives of communities of Ukrainian migrants in the EU countries on the transformation of the social capital of these communities. The social capital of migrant communities of Ukrainians is "culturally bonding", aimed at preserving the common cultural identity of Ukrainians abroad in the context of a different cultural environment. Migrant communities of Ukrainian migrants remain relatively homogeneous in terms of culture, identity and practices. It is revealed that in the context of contemporary transformations of external migration, changes and social capital of migrant communities is changing too. The circular nature of migration at the present stage adversely affects the social capital of migrant communities, their permanent membership is diminished, social ties are weakened, the autonomy of communities is reduced and the integration of migrants into host societies is increased. Number of such communities today are to some extent deinstitutionalized.

The article deals with current historiography of the research program of modernization in Western – mostly US – academic literature. The article stresses the importance of the theory's reputation for its success or failure. The paper traces the origins of the critique of the discourse of modernization. The interrelation between academic scholarship and ideological partisanship is being examined. It is argued that ideology is an integral part of academic discourse, so the task of academics is not to get rid of ideology but to control it and keep within reasonable boundaries. The topicality of the issue raised in the article is determined by the hegemony of neo-liberal thinking which is a descendant of modernization theory with its belief in the exemplar nature of the Western experience. The article juxtaposes two mutually exclusive approaches to modernization theory, that of E.Tiryakian and I. Wallerstein. While the former is advocating the worthiness of modernization theory on grounds of its intellectual prowess, the latter is claiming that the idea of modernization was ideology, not a theory and as such was stillborn. Thus, they arrive at mutually opposite conclusions – the revival of modernization theory versus its burial. The article examines the vast literature on the origins, developmental history and political connections of modernization theory. The involvement of the founders of the modernization theory into the policy making towards the Third World is discussed. The role of modernization theory in buttressing the US policy during Vietnam War is revealed.It is argued that reputation of the scientific theory is critical to its reception and survival. The modernization theory today in Western nations is faced with radical left rejection, liberal critique and uncritical apology. At the same time there is a dangerous trend in Ukraine when the modernization theory is being perceived and (ab)used in a ritualistic manner. This is posture towards modernization research program should be combated by means of restoring value of rational discourse and selective appropriation of the legacy of the idea of modernization. ; Стаття розглядає сучасну історіографію дослідницької програми модернізації у закордонній - переважно американській – суспільствознавчій літературі. Стаття простежує походження критики дискурсу модернізації, визначає взаємовідношення між науковою теорією і партійною ідеологією в рамках дослідницької програми модернізації. Стаття вибудовує типологію підходів до теорії модернізації: ліворадикальний заперечення, ліберальну критику і некритичну апологію, а також пропонує визначити впливову тенденцію сприйняття теорії модернізації в Україну як рітуалізований культ.

The conceptual conditionality of poststructuralism was analysed. Dimensions of an expression and analysis of political science in the context of this paradigm were defined. Descriptions of understanding of the postmethodology in an accordance to the poststructuralism were researched. Priorities in the determination of poststructuralistic research methods and their differences from the classic methodology were studied. As the investment expectations for EdTech businesses have been growing during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, there is a need to reflect critically about the pedagogical implications of trends like datafication, platformisation and technological solutionism. Recently, social science fiction has been used to stimulate critical, sociological imagination about the future uses of educational technology (Macgilchrist et al., 2020; Selwyn et al., 2020). This paper expands the use of social science fiction for the current Italian context as a method for critical analysis in research and in teacher education. Two vignettes are developed to illustrate two scenarios of possible configurations of educational technology within primary schools in the year 2026. It is shown how opposite technological configurations manifest different under- lying pedagogical assumptions regarding children and teacher agency, literacy and the politics of knowledge. By relating the use of educational media to issues of pedagogy and didactics, writing and discussing social science fiction provides a significant opportunity to promote reflexive uses of technology in education. ; Con l'apparizione del COVID-19 e la DaD a livello globale il settore EdTech (educational technology) celebra nuove opportunità di investimento e di crescità. Recentemente, la social science fiction è stata utilizzata per stimolare l'immaginazione critica sugli usi futuri della tecnologia educativa (Macgilchrist et al., 2020; Selwyn et al., 2020). Il presente lavoro pro- pone la social science fiction nel contesto attuale italiano come un metodo di analisi critica da usare nella ricerca e nella formazione degli insegnanti.
