International audience This paper describes a new sampling method for bird populations making use of the frequency of occurrence of each species per unit-time of 20 min (Echantillonnage Fréquentiel Progressif, E. F. P.). This technique is derived from the I.P.A. method (Blondel et al., 1970) but is not intended to replace the latter ; the two methods are designed to solve different theoretical and practical problems in ecology. 1. In an introductory chapter, it is argued that the « bird- model » allows one to put forward an ecological diagnosis of ecosystems and that bird communities can be used to test the level of complexity of ecosystems. Furthermore, from a practical point of view, we may make use of bird communities for environmental planning and monitoring. The frequency-sampling method is interesting because it permits one to gather rapidly quantitative and reliable data. 2. The material consists of 279 I.P.A. censuses or 558 frequency units, since 1 I.P.A. = 2 E.F.P., collected in 23 study areas of French Mediterranean Biome. These data were used to deter mine the composition and structure of avian communities by means of densities (I.P.A.) and frequencies (E.F.P.). Comparisons of the two sets of data allows one to determine for each species the relationship between its density and its frequency. The composition of the community involves two parameters : A) richness, that is to say the number of species. A distinction is made between total richness S or absolute number of species noted at least once in a set of N censuses, and mean richness s or mean number of species per count ; B) abundance of individuals in the communities. This parameter can be expressed either as an index of specific abundance (I.P.A. 8) which can be converted to density dt if one knows the coefficient by which to multiply I.P.A. in order to obtain (dt = I.P.A.t X c,), or by mean of fre quencies FC. Dans le cadre de la nouvelle politique agricole visant un meilleur développement de l'agriculture algérienne afin d'aboutir à lasécurité alimentaire. L'arboriculture fruitière notamment l'abricotier a connue une ampleur certaine, marquée par une extensiondes plantations fruitières dans différentes zones pédoclimatiques dont certaines diffèrent de celles des zones traditionnelles dela culture.L'espèce abricotier (Prunus armeniaca L.) marque un bon comportement dans ces situations et a donner des résultats trèsencourageants surtout en zones arides et semi arides. Ces derniers divergent de multiples facteurs entre autre la nutritionminérale.Cette contribution s'inscrit dans le cadre d'une évaluation de la nutrition minérale de trois variétés d'abricotier durant les années2005/06 et en 2006/07 pour une seule variété, cultivées dans une zone aride (commune de Doucen, w. Biskra Algérie). Cettecaractérisation nutritionnelle est fondée essentiellement sur l'analyse physicochimique du sol et des feuilles.D'une manière générale, les résultats d'analyses comparés aux normes établies indiquent des nutritions azotée, calcique etmagnésienne équilibrées et l'alimentation potassique s'avère satisfaisante. Ce qui exige forcement un contrôle périodique pourdécliner tout risque de carence en ces éléments. Pour le cas du phosphore, il marque des faibles proportions au niveau desfeuilles, traduites par une mauvaise alimentation des arbres.

Depuis quelques années, on assiste à un regain d'intérêt sur les sols et leurs propriétés, en relation avec une prise de conscience environnementale accrue. La protection des sols est ainsi devenue l'objet d'initiatives réglementaires au niveau européen. Cette communication propose un bref historique de la cartographie des sols en Belgique et présente les travaux de valorisation et de révision de la Carte des Sols menés au sein de notre équipe de recherche-développement. La Belgique fut un des premiers pays à s'être doté d'une carte des sols à grande échelle (1/20 000) sur la totalité de son territoire. L'article commente les étapes de sa réalisation et ses caractéristiques. S'étalant de 1947 à 1991, ce programme ambitieux délivra divers produits en marge de cette carte. Face à une demande accrue d'informations sur les sols et au développement des systèmes d'information géographiques, la partie wallonne de la carte a été numérisée dans le cadre du Projet de Cartographie Numérique des Sols de Wallonie (PCNSW). La Carte Numérique des Sols de Wallonie et sa légende unique ont ensuite été valorisées au travers d'un certain nombre de produits dérivés dont une sélection est brièvement commentée. Si l'utilisation de la Carte des Sols et les applications dont elle fait l'objet dépassent de loin les objectifs initiaux d'augmentation des productions agricoles, elle ne répond cependant pas toujours aux demandes actuelles, au regard des enjeux environnementaux et des législations actuelles et futures, tant au niveau régional qu'européen. Faisant écho à ce constat, les travaux menés actuellement par l'équipe de révision de la Carte Numérique des Sols de Wallonie sont brièvement présentés, à travers une description de son cadre méthodologique et technique. Le crédo des travaux menés étant que la Carte des Sols, en tant qu'outil d'intégration, de structuration et de cadrage de l'information pédologique, doit devenir de plus en plus le fondement de Systèmes Régionaux d'Information sur les Sols et leurs propriétés. ; Over the past few years, there has been growing concern about soils and their properties, thanks to greater environmental awareness. Consequently, existing documents on soil are valuable in risk assessment and for the research of well-adapted solutions. In this context, this paper reviews the main stages of soil mapping in Belgium and presents current works to valorize the Digital Soil Map of Wallonia and update associated databases. Belgium is among the first countries to be completely covered by a detailed soil map (1:20,000). The origin of the Soil Map of Belgium, its realisation between 1947 and 1991, the principles and characteristics as well as the related products are described. But since its publication, due to the increasing need of soil information and thanks to the development of geographical information systems the Walloon part of the map was digitalised between 2000 and 2003 by the Digital Soil Map of Wallonia (DSMW) Project. From this early action at regional level, a selection of immediately derived products is presented and briefly commented. However, if these products go beyond the initial objective of agricultural production increase, they do not always meet the environmental challenges nor the future legislation at European, national and regional levels. To fill this gap, the recent tasks carried out by the DMSW team are presented through a description of their methodological and technical framework. The long-term objective is to build Regional Soil Information Systems based on the use of the Digital Soil Map of Wallonia as a tool of integration, structuring and referencing of pedological information. ; Peer reviewed

In order to manage the global water supply - abundant but unevenly distributed and challenged by climate change - France has for the past fifteen years undertaken a quantitative water management reform. This is achieved by the LEMA 2006 law, which determines the withdrawable volumes and the implementation of a collective water management system, irrigated through the intermediary of Unique Collective Management Organizations(OUGC). Indeed, as a major global water consumer, the agricultural sector face strong societal and environmental pressures. The agricultural bodies must adapt and implement new water saving solutions when they do not necessarily have the technical or financial abilities to do so. The OUGCs take these constraints into account and suggest to save water not at withdrawals but by working on the practices and needs, and by reasoning at the watershed level. The objective being to optimise consumption by implementing a distribution plan with a predefined global water volume reserved foragriculture. As a direct player in contact with the rural sector, the Var Chamber of Agriculture has taken the role of a OUGC and will manage withdrawals made from surface water bodies and from the alluvial aquifer of the Gapeau basin. This territory, classified as Water Distribution Zone (ZRE) suffers from regular quantitative deficits, especially during drought flow. The Gapeau valley is characterized by its fertility but also by its exposure to other anthropogenic pressures (demographic growth, urbanization, tourism, industries, etc.) which create an imbalances between the needs of users, those of the environment and the water resources available.Let us understand the interests and the steps in setting up an OUGC: The political, regulatory, territorial and environmental context of the study area makes it possible to assess the progress of the implemented measures to achieve the objective, being a "good quantitative level of water bodies". Introduction: The number of general practitioners working exclusively in private practice has decreased by 4,4% these last seven years whereas those working exclusively for the salaried sector has been increasing. These trends still go on in spite of the measures taken by the state and the regional communities to encourage the new practitioners to choose the first one. Objectives : The main purpose was first to investigate the main determining factors in the choice of the general practitioners in Gironde, then to generate hypotheses for the reasons why the new doctors choose the salaried ambulatory general medicine and investigate the adequacy between the existing incentives and the choice of the general practitioners when they have to make it. Methods: Qualitative research in a hypothetic-inductive approach of anchored theorization. Semi-structured interviews have been conducted with a purposing sampling of young general practitioners in Gironde until reaching saturation. Results: Through the 16 interviews led, multiple professional factors have been found, the first one being the professional interest. Their choice wasn't much influent by the installation location. Yet the professional factors had to be consistent with their private (family and social) life. The young practitioners were attracted by health centers hoping for a less intense rythm of work, a best quality of care, an easier access to a team work and the advantages of the public area even in general practice. They thought incentives weren't enough efficient, inaccurate and unknown. Conclusion: The medical demography could be improved by incentives taking into account the needs of the population and the wills of the young doctors together. A political effort must be made in order to give the universities enough resources to train the future general practitioners to the private practice. ; Introduction : Le nombre de généralistes en secteur libéral exclusif a baissé de 4,4% ces sept dernières années. Celui des généralistes en salarié exclusif était en augmentation sur la même période. Ces tendances persistent malgré des mesures prises par l'État et les collectivités pour inciter les jeunes à choisir le libéral. Objectifs : L'objectif principal était d'explorer les facteurs déterminant le choix d'exercice en secteur libéral ou salarié des médecins généralistes en Gironde. Les objectifs secondaires étaient de : générer des hypothèses sur les raisons poussant les jeunes médecins à choisir la médecine générale ambulatoire salariée ; étudier l'adéquation entre les mesures incitatives à l'installation en libéral existantes et les facteurs déterminant le choix des généralistes au moment de leur installation. Méthodes : Étude qualitative dans une approche hypothético-inductive de théorisation ancrée. Des entretiens semi-dirigés ont été conduits auprès d'un échantillonnage raisonné de jeunes médecins généralistes de Gironde, jusqu'à saturation des données. Résultats : 16 entretiens ont été réalisés. On dénombrait de multiples facteurs professionnels, en premier lieu, l'intérêt professionnel. Le lieu d'installation restait un critère mineur dans le choix du mode d'exercice. Les facteurs professionnels devaient néanmoins être en adéquation avec la vie personnelle (familiale et sociale). Les jeunes généralistes étaient attirés par les centres de santé pour : l'allègement possible du rythme de travail pour une meilleure qualité de soins, la facilitation de l'accès aux soins, le travail en équipe et l'acquisition de privilèges du salariat tout en exerçant la médecine générale. Ils trouvaient que les mesures incitatives actuelles étaient insuffisantes, inappropriées voire méconnues. Conclusion : la démographie médicale pourrait être améliorée par des mesures incitatives qui tiennent compte des besoins de la population et des aspirations des jeunes médecins. Un effort politique doit être mené pour donner aux universités les moyens de former les futurs médecins à l'exercice libéral de la médecine générale.

Land Use and Transportation Integrated (LUTI) models have become a norm for representing the interactions between land use and the transportation of goods and people in a territory. These models are mainly used to evaluate alternative planning scenarios, simulating their impact on land cover and travel demand.LUTI models and other mathematical models used in various fields are most of the time based on complex computer codes. These codes often involve poorly-known inputs whose uncertainty can have significant effects on the model outputs.Global sensitivity analysis methods are useful tools to study the influence of the model inputs on its outputs. Among the large number of available approaches, the variance based method introduced by Sobol' allows to calculate sensitivity indices called Sobol' indices. These indices quantify the influence of each model input on the outputs and can detect existing interactions between inputs.In this framework, we favor a particular method based on replicated designs of experiments called replication method. This method appears to be the most suitable for our application and is advantageous as it requires a relatively small number of model evaluations to estimate first-order or second-order Sobol' indices.This thesis focuses on extensions of the replication method to face constraints arising in our application on the LUTI model Tranus, such as the presence of dependency among the model inputs, as far as multivariate outputs.Aside from that, we propose a recursive approach to sequentially estimate Sobol' indices. The recursive approach is based on the iterative construction of stratified designs, latin hypercubes and orthogonal arrays, and on the definition of a new stopping criterion. With this approach, more accurate Sobol' estimates are obtained while recycling previous sets of model evaluations. We also propose to combine such an approach with quasi-Monte Carlo sampling.An application of our contributions on the LUTI model Tranus is presented. ; Le développement et l'utilisation de modèles intégrés transport-urbanisme sont devenus une norme pour représenter les interactions entre l'usage des sols et le transport de biens et d'individus sur un territoire. Ces modèles sont souvent utilisés comme outils d'aide à la décision pour des politiques de planification urbaine.Les modèles transport-urbanisme, et plus généralement les modèles mathématiques, sont pour la majorité conçus à partir de codes numériques complexes. Ces codes impliquent très souvent des paramètres dont l'incertitude est peu connue et peut potentiellement avoir un impact important sur les variables de sortie du modèle.Les méthodes d'analyse de sensibilité globales sont des outils performants permettant d'étudier l'influence des paramètres d'un modèle sur ses sorties. En particulier, les méthodes basées sur le calcul des indices de sensibilité de Sobol' fournissent la possibilité de quantifier l'influence de chaque paramètre mais également d'identifier l'existence d'interactions entre ces paramètres.Dans cette thèse, nous privilégions la méthode dite à base de plans d'expériences répliqués encore appelée méthode répliquée. Cette méthode a l'avantage de ne requérir qu'un nombre relativement faible d'évaluations du modèle pour calculer les indices de Sobol' d'ordre un et deux.Cette thèse se focalise sur des extensions de la méthode répliquée pour faire face à des contraintes issues de notre application sur le modèle transport-urbanisme Tranus, comme la présence de corrélation entre paramètres et la prise en compte de sorties multivariées.Nos travaux proposent également une approche récursive pour l'estimation séquentielle des indices de Sobol'. L'approche récursive repose à la fois sur la construction itérative d'hypercubes latins et de tableaux orthogonaux stratifiés et sur la définition d'un nouveau critère d'arrêt. Cette approche offre une meilleure précision sur l'estimation des indices tout en permettant de recycler des premiers jeux d'évaluations du modèle. Nous proposons aussi de combiner une telle approche avec un échantillonnage quasi-Monte Carlo.Nous présentons également une application de nos contributions pour le calage du modèle de transport-urbanisme Tranus.

assessing the predictive power of a plug-flow model is crucial in surface hydrology, as this limits the limits of its use by extrapolation, i.e. in hydro-meteorological and geographical conditions different from those of the model's learning phase. Moreover, this predictive power is likely to depend on the climate knowledge of the basins and the complexity of the plug-flow relationship. To test the reaction of an empirical hydrological model to the sampling strategy of its climate input variables, a sensitivity study was applied to the overall hydrological model GR4J. It has been set dynamically using climatic information of varying origin and spatial density to calculate its atmospheric inputs (precipitation and potential evapotranspiration). The daily hydrograms calculated after recalculation were compared with the daily hydrograms observed in a sample of 148 ponds subject to hydrometric monitoring in the French part of the Rhine-Meuse basin. The results of the analysis show that the GR4J model reacts strongly to changing precipitation inputs (precipitation at the distributed precipitation vs position) by improving the definition of parameters and better identifying the hydrological behaviour of the modelled basin under both calibrated and non-graduated conditions. Conversely, the GR4J model shows insensitivity to the spatial density change of the meteorological network used to calculate the potential evapotranspiration prescribed for the model and therefore does not derive from a concentration of stations to simulate the flow rates under both calibrated and uncalibrated conditions. ; International audience ; assessing the predictive power of a plug-flow model is crucial in surface hydrology, as this limits the limits of its use by extrapolation, i.e. in hydro-meteorological and geographical conditions different from those of the model's learning phase. RésuméOn estime généralement que l'utilisation d'une méthode d'échantillonnage actif pour la conduite de sondage Internet est plus efficace que l'utilisation d'échantillonnage passif, autant en ce qui a trait au recrutement des participants que de la représentativité de l'échantillon. Dans le premier cas, des firmes spécialisées contactent directement des répondants, alors que dans le deuxième cas les participants doivent se rendre par eux-mêmes sur une plate-forme de sondage en ligne. Dans cet article, nous évaluons empiriquement l'efficacité relative d'une stratégie d'échantillonnage passif à l'aide d'une campagne médiatique mise en place dans le cadre de l'expérience Web Vote au pluriel – Québec. Cette stratégie avait pour objectif d'augmenter le nombre de participants et d'améliorer la représentativité de l'échantillon obtenu par échantillonnage passif. Nos résultats suggèrent que la stratégie a eu un impact significatif, mais limité, sur le recrutement des participants. De plus, la représentativité de l'échantillon complet comprend d'importantes lacunes, surtout lorsque celui-ci est comparé à un échantillon Web obtenu par échantillonnage actif. Nos analyses démontrent cependant que l'utilisation des médias traditionnels, dans le cadre d'une stratégie plus large, pourrait diminuer l'impact négatif du digital divide, qui nuit à la représentativité des échantillons récoltés sur le Web.
