The historical role of elite (elites) in formation of the public ecological consciousness and in solving of environmental problems from the beginning of industrial revolution of 16-17 centuries in England which resulted in drastic impacts on the environment until our days are considered in the article. It was discovered the evolution of the environmental concerns from the worry of the elites about nature to the modern global mass movement. The first concern of elites over the human impacts on nature and over the loss of harmony between man and nature is related to the time of Romanticism. It was articulated in the most expressive form in the English Romanticism (Percy Bashi Shelley, William Blake, George Byron, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, William Wordsworth, John Clare) and in the German Romanticism (Friedrich Wilhelm Schelling, Novalis). The concern of the public elites (writers, scientists-naturalists, public figures, artists) of the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries over the state of the environment, natural resources depletion, species extinction and over the decline of the natural and cultural heritage in total due to rapid industrialization and urbanization created the preconditions for the modern ecologim. During that period nature is still considered as a source of harmony and stability which is able to resist to destructive power of industrial civilization, which rapidly transforms the environment. Particular features of development of the European movement for nature protection were shaped by the national, cultural, economic and political peculiarities of the countries of the Western Europe, as well as by dominating social moral and aesthetic values of particular country. The joint result of the activities of the broad spectrum of environmental organizations and groups was the adoption of legislative acts aimed at natural-cultural heritage protection of the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries in a number of European countries. This created favorable conditions for networking the European environmental movement and for internationalization of its activities and for forming the first phase of the environmental mobilization of the society, initiated by the public elites of the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries. After the Second World War the broad strata of population in the Western Europe and the North America were involved in the environmental movement. At the same time this movement was split in two principal branches, namely: the nature conservation movement and the movement which considers the quality and safety of human environment as a part of human rights in a democratic society. From 1960s there are two relatively autonomous main branches of the public movement, which, however, closely interact with each other. The formation of the second phase of environmentalism is related to the penetration of the ideas of environmental protection in all spheres of social and political life during 1960s-1970s («Silent Spring», the Club of Rome) and celebration of the Earths Day in April of the year 1970. Thus, the elitist movement for nature protection was transformed into the mass movement for human rights to live in the save environment. In spite of the environmental movement has gone the way from concerns of the elites over the growth of industrialization, urbanization and negative environmental impacts of economic growth and, consequently, overconsumption to the mass movement of thousands and millions of people, the elites still continue to play a significant role in it.

The article analyzes the historical and philosophical background of the interdependence of modern gender and ecological ideas in the context of philosophical concepts of F.V. J. Schelling, M. Scheler, L. Mumford, J. Lotman, J. Habermas and others. Study emphasized that the perception of women and natural world as the passive resources is rooted in the neoclassical approach. The gender approach overcomes the negative ecological trends. It reinvents the correlation between instrumental and communicative reason. On the one hand, the origins of instrumental rationality are more associated with men, and, on the other hand, communicative rationality is more connected with women's activity. This is that what gives the rise to call a culture that focuses on the lives as the mainly women's culture. For example, when the task is to group or inspire people to achieve important social objectives, then society spreads out the strategies of sexual opposition. There are a lot of evidences that can be found in religious and general cultural, political and everyday traditions. The most obvious of them is the prohibition of sexual relations between husband and wife on the eve of sowing or hunting.Alternatively, for biological survival of the human species, for its strengthening, the convergence strategy of sexual unity has been used. But in society it should be the strengthening of solidarity relations, namely, mutual understanding, recognition, support, and parity.Consequently, the gender approach to contemporary environmental issues demonstrates the innovative interpretation of classical historical and philosophical foundation. Gender explanation is based on such values as cooperation, empathy and education, stemming from a relational perspective that elevates the role of the feminine principle in culture. It pays tribute to intuition and spontaneity in the processes of social changes, because they expand the creative space for finding the new solutions to environmental problems.

; The last ten years have spawned a plethora of so-called agent-based models. This type of model is characterized by mapping entities and their interactions in the system under observation directly onto entities in the model ("agents") and interactions between agents, respectively. Thus the model preserves the structure of the modelled system while investigating its behaviour over time. The wide range of application domains includes sociology, economy, biology, ecology, archaeology and the military sector. Since these domains often contrast the agent-based style of modelling with continuous simulation, in which a set of differential equations is solved numerically by stepwise integration, it is not surprising that the vast majority of agent-based models apply a time-driven approach, i.e. simulation time is advanced in equidistant steps. This time advance method is considerably easier to implement than the more flexible and efficient event- driven approach, which can make all the difference if a dedicated simulation toolkit is missing. Both applications and toolkits are usually developed by domain experts and not simulation experts. The present dissertation thesis shows how agent-based simulation can be defined as a new world view within the context of discrete-event simulation. Named "agent-oriented" in accordance with the (German) terms for the classical world views, this world view combines the metaphor of multi-agent systems with an event-driven time advance. Applying the event-driven approach requires that (a) the durations for agent and environment actions are determined before they terminate so that the respective termination event can be scheduled in time, (b) each agent is able to instantly react to changes in its environment, and (c) the update of the state of the environment can be kept efficient despite updating agents asynchronously. Based on these requirements the concept for a simulation toolkit was developed, which implements the agent-oriented world view. A major focus of this toolkit is to support an explicit representation of space within the environment and the movement of agents in that space. These are areas where existing toolkits for agent-based modelling show shortcomings, despite the fact that a majority of multi-agent models explicitly model space and allow for mobile agents. A prototypical implementation of this concept is provided with the simulation framework FAMOS extending the tried and tested discrete-event simulator DESMO-J. FAMOS was first tested by re-implementing two well-known models (Schelling's segregation model, Epstein and Axtell's Sugarscape model) and then thoroughly evaluated in a practice-oriented simulation study of a city courier service.

In Schelling's segregation model, agents of two ethnic groups reside in a regular grid and aim to live in a neighborhood that matches the minimum desired fraction of members of the same ethnicity. The model shows that observed segregation can emerge from people interacting under spatial constraints following homophily preferences. Even mild preferences can generate high degrees of segregation at the macro level. In modern, ethnically diverse societies, people might not define similarity based on ethnicity. Instead, shared tolerance towards ethnic diversity might play a more significant role, impacting segregation and integration in societies. With this consideration, we extend Schelling's model by dividing the population of agents into value-oriented and ethnicity-oriented agents. Using parameter sweeping, we explore the consequences that the mutual adaptation of these two types of agents has on ethnic segregation, value segregation, and population density in the neighborhood. We examine for equally sized ethnic groups and for majority–minority conditions. The introduction of value-oriented agents reduces total ethnic segregation compared to Schelling's original model, but the new value segregation appears to be more pronounced than ethnic segregation. Due to spillover effects, stronger ethnic homophily preferences lead not only to greater ethnic segregation, but also to more value segregation. Stronger value-orientation of the tolerant agents similarly leads to increased ethnic segregation of the ethnicity-oriented agents. Also, value-oriented agents tend to live in neighborhoods with more agents than ethnicity-oriented agents. In majority–minority settings, such effects appear to be more drastic for the minority than the majority ethnicity.
This commentary discusses how some of the key dilemmas in strategic studies—such as the decline of major wars, the limitations of strategic coercion, the utility of the paradigm "War amongst the People," and our current understanding of the relationship between war's character and its nature—are either challenged or refined by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

This special commentary examines critical issues for the field of strategic studies raised by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, including the waning of major war, strategic coercion, and "War Amongst the People." Drawing on previous scholarship and current events, this commentary considers the questions raised by the first major war of the twenty-first century. It provides recommendations for scholars and senior leaders on how to work together to address the questions of strategy and policy that have and continue to arise as the war progresses.

The article deals with the actual problem of the essential meaning of «intelligentsia»; its paradigmatic content in modern social philosophy. Analysis of the problem aimed to identify the intelligentsia; determine its social role and place in the structure of society. Intelligentsia as a specific social phenomenon appealed to fulfil a conscious and enterprising role in formulating; maintaining and transmitting national values and traditions. To determine the main features of intelligentsia influenced the historical; cultural; national factors that cause variation and semantic content of the concept of «intelligentsia»; determine its place in the structure of society and social roles and functions; particularly in the period of social transformation. However the question of identification intelligentsia in social structure; its differentiating as a specific and especial social phenomenon is still open. Significant spreading and differentiation of connotations «intelligentsia» associated with the German philosophy of the late XVIII – early XIX century. German philosophers (J. Fichte; G. Hegel; F. Schelling) characterized intelligentsia as intellect; subject; contemplating; cognizing and creating objective reality and material world. However; intellectuals are common phenomenon that fills the concept of «intelligentsia» with ambiguous and controversial content. K. Marx and F. Engels «endowed» intelligentsia with some interests and distinctive features: education; brainwork; spreading of scientific skills and culture. Post-revolutionary France and Germany in mid-nineteenth century characterized with division of society into classes and thus fragmentation intelligentsia of that time. In the second half of the nineteenth century class struggle deepened; the number of industrial intelligentsia grew; it became politically active. Therefore; intelligentsia has been increasingly identified with brainworkers. At that time the concept «intelligentsia» spread in the Russian Empire. P. Boborykin depicted in his writings the types of intelligentsia who were willing to sacrifice the material goods to exchange their mercantile interests of the high generous notions. At about that time began the long discussion of the identification and social function of intelligentsia. The anthology of articles «Vehi» / «Landmarks» takes оne of the leading places among the researches about intelligentsia; specifically Russian. The authors of «Vehi» researched the world outlook and social role of the Russian intelligentsia in particular historical – revolutionary – period. They pointed out the «lack» of spirituality; morality; civic position; rejection of the absolute values of the Russian intelligentsia during the transformation of society. If we consider intelligence as the main feature of intelligentsia; its erudition; professionalism and service all sections of the population; it can be distinguished as a social group. Significant automation and mechanization of modern life; the use of scientific; technical progress and innovation; the development of media and communication have led to substantial changes in professional structure. There is a «fragmentation» of specialization; so the number of employees at different levels of the professional structure increases. In addition; a significant part of work is automated; reducing human participation in workflow. Work is mechanized; potential and personal expression accumulated. Therefore; the definition of intelligentsia is getting narrow; concrete; priority is given to the creative professions. Intelligentsia defined as a social stratum; it given active civic position; social competence; able to create; spread and maintain national cultural values and traditions. However; these basic features are too general; so it's difficult to determine exactly the place of intelligentsia in social structure. Following the high spiritual and moral values distinguish intelligentsia among the masses. It is difficult to explain the activation of social activities of intelligentsia during the transformation of society and the fulfillment of the main social and cultural feature; messianic role – fixing and transmission of national values; ensuring the stability of historical national memory. The research attempted to define the intelligentsia as a social phenomenon. A concorde combination of rational and sensual allows it to enable as a «guide» of national traditions between generations and in periods of social transformation. This article is dedicated to the analysis of some peculiarities of Losev's criticism of the philosophical conceptions of Kant, Fichte, Schelling and Hegel in his work «Samoe samo». The article proves that this criticism is based on significant oversimplification of these conceptions. This makes Losev's criticism not quite objective, and therefore not immanent. – 438 с. В. Ф.
