The term activism usually refers to an activity aimed to produce some change at political and/or social level. An activist translation consists therefore in the practice which, through the means of translation, has this precise objective. If on the one hand the tool of translation can help reaching the objective, on the other the very selection of the texts chosen for the translation can also imply a precise ideal audience in the mind of the translator. The translation of a text can therefore help produce cultural change, which has now come to be identified as the performative aspect of activist translation. The essay is part of a research project that aims to extend to the Nordic dynasties the historiographic acquisitions achieved in the study of the spectacle in the European court. Anna of Oldenburg, daughter of King Frederick II of Denmark and Norway, and sister of Christian IV, received since childhood a princely education that made her one of the most appealing candidates in the swirling circle of dynastic marriages. Before becoming, at the age of fourteen, engaged and then married to James VI Stuart, next Queen of Scotland and England, she had the chance to verify the political value of ceremonies in a refined renaissance court. The cultural substratum, feeded by the attentive education received in particular by her mother Sofia of Mecklenburg-Gustrow and supported by the presence of many spectacular-dynastic events, made Anna perfectly capable of creating a syncretic court once she rose to the throne. The research at the base of this study represents the first piece of a wider investigation that aims to highlight the queen's role as a patron-sovereign, until now better known as the founder of the Jacobean masque.

open ; The thesis focuses on Regionalisms and Nationalisms in Europe with particular reference to the Catalan and Scottish cases. Following an historical and juridical approach the author debates on nationalism movements in Catalonia and Scotland through a comparative analysis of these two different nationalisms and it dedicates part of the research to the study of the European Union policies and orientation in promoting regional participation and devolution processes. In the thesis is stressed the existing link between regional/national movements and the European Union integration process and it is developed the discussion about the European Union's regulation for regions, regional communities and sub-state actors. Devolution in the UK is renowned for its asymmetry. The article comparatively examines the new institutions of Scotland & Wales to show the significance of the reforms that the latter is currently undertaking. A specific focus on the first term's (1999-2003) political changes in Wales allows some tentative conclusions to be reached. The first concerns the irreversibility of the devolution process, after a difficult start caused by the apathy of public opinion (as the narrow margin of approval of devolution in the 1997 referendum attests), further boosted by the "control freakery" of the first First Secretary A. Michael. Another, more important, conclusion regards the possible direction of Welsh devolution in the footsteps of Scotland, through a general process of emulation based on two fundamental principles: the acquisition of primary legislative powers & the consolidation of the parliamentary system of government. 7 Tables, 54 References. L'elaborato si propone di delineare gli eventi salienti che hanno contraddistinto il percorso della devolution in Scozia, a partire da una breve analisi storica, incentrata sul periodo precedente all'istituzione del Parlamento scozzese di Holyrood conseguente all'approvazione da parte di Westminster dello Scotland Act 1998. Esso prosegue poi con l'analisi dell'evoluzione dell'ordinamento scozzese, negli anni del governo di Tony Blair e del tentativo di indipendenza con il referendum del 18 Settembre 2014, per poi concludersi con il capitolo incentrato sul referendum Brexit e le sue conseguenze per la Scozia europeista e l'intero Regno Unito. The paper aims to outline the main events that have marked the path of devolution in Scotland, starting with a brief historical analysis, focused on the period preceding the establishment of the Scottish Parliament of Holyrood following the approval of Scotland Act 1998 by Westminster. It continues then with the analysis of the evolution of the Scottish legal system, in the years of the Tony Blair government and the attempt at independence with the referendum of 18 September 2014, and then concludes with the chapter focused on the Brexit referendum and its consequences for pro-European Scotland and the whole United Kingdom.

Rita Cannas presents a PhD thesis in Economics (Geo-Economic curriculum) which is titled "Public Policies for Seasonality in Tourism from a Territorial Perspective. Case Studies in Scotland and Sardinia". The specific area of the research is public policies for contrasting seasonality in tourism in peripheral areas. Seasonality has seen such as a problem in terms of social and economics patterns especially for those local communities which are situated in peripheral areas. The research explores what, how and for who, public policies, that have been in place in Scotland and Sardinia over the last 10-5 years, are working and what kind of results these have produced. The research has empirical and theoretical implications for studying tourism seasonality. It aims to highlight the local supply patterns of the phenomenon investigated, and to improve knowledge about the strategies and the policies that have been adopted in the two territorial contexts (Scotland and Sardinia) for contrasting or modifying seasonality in tourism. The type of subject and the research questions have suggested the adoption of an interpretative theoretical perspective and a qualitative methodological approach, although a set of quantitative secondary data is also required for understanding main tourism's characteristics and for analyzing the specificity of seasonality. Interview with key actors of the local system in Scotland and Sardinia is the method chosen to collect primary data. In total the researcher has done 20 interviews in deep. Case studies are chosen both as unity of analysis and research strategy. The main findings of the research show a different and complex scenario about quality and quantity of public policies and strategies in tourism in the two case studies. The role of local resources is quite strategic on delivering tourism services and on counteracting seasonality. Events, festival are the main demand-side strategies. From a supply-side the principles policies are focused on quality of services, technology, high skills, sustainability. Partnership between public and private sector seems to be a fundamental way to work in order to attain changes and outcomes. The research has a strong research design, provides coherent results, and it has been done paying attention to the validation of the whole process.

This book is truly important and interesting for several reasons: for the relevance and timeliness of the issues surrounding Europe's peripheral nationalisms in the context of the contemporary democratic State and the European integration process; for encouraging reflection about Europe's "Multilevel Governance"; and for the mastery and depth with which the author, Caterina Bassetti, analyses the cases of Scotland and Catalonia within this broad framework.

The article deals with the current wave of secession referendums. It argues that it seems to be part of the movement against the internationalization of domestic politics, epitomized by the process of fiscal and political integration in the EU. Analyzing the situation of Ukraine, Scotland, Catalonia and the Italian Region of Veneto, the article reaches the following conclusions: independence referendums have some distinctive features that set them apart from other forms of referendum; they are a great challenge to kelsenian sovereignty and representative democracy, but nonetheless they have to come to terms with it in order to be held; some countries seem better prepared than others to accommodate their challenge, and this must have something to do with their respective legal systems and possibly electoral systems as well.
