Scentsory Design® is an animation film that explores the fusion of 'Emotional Fashion' with 'aromachology' (the science of perfume) and how this can have a radical impact on mental and physical health. Fashion has a reason; it is a display of personal identity through strong visual cues. The film documents the use of scent as a tool to improve quality of life, enabling the wearer to act on visual cues or detect scent signals, allowing immediate information. Scentsory Design® creates the concept of emotional fashion: responsive clothes and jewellery that offer social and therapeutic value in a desirable fashion context. It adds more sensations into the fashion palette to create radical new fashion properties with real benefit. The aim is to produce an intimate scent bubble that delivers benefit chemicals in controlled ways responding to personal needs. This allows for efficient scent delivery that is targeted to specific parts of the body. The users confidence in their visual identity is thus enhanced by sensory, psychological and medical wellbeing. Clothing offers a 'second skin' with new identities being explored through sustainability and recycling, allowing fashion to reinvent new personalities and projections of a new image. Artists and designers work on the 'second life' of things in a society of consumerism, as design processes become political and ethical as much as aesthetical actions. The transformation and reinvention gives a "second life" to garments, in order to balance the relentless desire to be unique whilst sharing a sense of belonging to a group.

Korruption ist ein so häufig vorkommendes Phänomen, dass man - ähnlich wie vom "schwarzen Arbeitsmarkt" - von einer Form der Schattenwirtschaft reden sollte, die die Märkte in verschiedenen Ausprägungen an der Grenze legal/illegal ständig begleitet. Schwarzmarkt, Steuerhinterziehung und Korruption sind ökonomische Phänomene unterhalb der Legalität, deren Verbreitung nicht allein durch moralische Defekte der Akteure erklärt werden kann. Es gibt grundsätzliche Muster, die aus der Geschichte der Ökonomie herangezogen werden können. Die Korruption unterscheidet sich zum Beispiel vom "rentseeking" nur dadurch, dass man den Aufwand scheut, die hohen Kosten der Politikbeeinflussung einzugehen. Die Transaktionskosten des Lobbying werden durch direkten Einfluss auf staatliche und/oder administrative Vertragspartner gesenkt. Die Korruption ist daher eine spezifische illegitime Investition: nicht Legalitätsproduktion zu Gunsten der Interessengruppen, sondern unmittelbare Durchsetzung der eigenen Interessen unter Umgehung der Gesetze. Dies ist - funktional betrachtet - auch eine Art von faktischer Gesetzesänderung. Den minderen Transaktionskosten der Durchsetzung der eigenen Interessen stehen allerdings höhere Risiken der Aufdeckung und juridischen Sanktion gegenüber. Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird ein politikökonomischer Erklärungsansatz der Korruption als "second-life-economy" vorgestellt. (ICI2)

When we look at products that use mystic elements and the marketing activities related to them, we see that mysticism has become a passion for individuals and this passion has become an opportunity for marketers. Accordingly, when we look at the process in reverse, we might as well say that this is a tendency created by marketing activities and instilled into individuals' lives. Although, it is indisputable that the notion of mystic experiences originated in the East, it is equally true that the commodities charged with the so-called mystical qualities and meanings including services associated with these experiences have become a natural part of all of our daily lives like they have always been there in the first place. Most of these have become part of our beliefs, habits, and discourses and have entered into our present life styles in various ways. Technologies in general, an indispensable part of our lives, or even internet-based-services in particular make use of this attractiveness of mysticism. When we think about the associations of mysticism, although it might seem hard to relate the concept to technology, virtual reality an important feature availed by the internet technology provides the infrastructure for the mystic experiences in question. The most pervasive example of this is the use of internet technology to spread mystic experiences on the internet, extend it to as many users as possible, and make the products that have mystical qualities catch on. This paper is a research on Second Life, a cyberspace that is used as the basic means to make mystical elements spread on the internet. Second Life comes before us as an alternative to the real life on cyberspace and its approach and perspective is examined via a creative theory on mystic places by Chamberlain: topomystica. This focuses the paper in revealing the mystic elements of Second Life and associates these with the theories of economy politics of the internet in order to demonstrate how mystic elements have become a source of economic profit in digital platforms.

Digital games are cultural representations that convey the gender system. The narratives of gender that have shaped the gaming industry since the 1980s were influenced by gender stereotypes. The representation of the female, although based on stereotypes, has evolved hand in hand with the representation of women in other media. But what happens when players are given the opportunity to develop their digital representatives? Virtual worlds are among the online games that allow a higher degree of personalization of the avatar and, in order to contribute to a better understanding of how gender identities are being performed within these environments, this paper will present a case study of Second Life. A qualitative methodology was used based on netnographic research. The data collection methods included participant observation and auto-netnography. The researchers would like to propose that to examine how gender is represented in games that enable the creation of the avatar allows to deepen the analysis on the relationship that has been established between gender and digital games.

"Second Life ist eine von der kalifornischen IT-Firma Linden Lab im Jahr 2003 entwickelte virtuelle Welt, die einige namhafte Unternehmen als Plattform zur Imagesteigerung und als neuen Zugang zu ihren Kunden entdeckt haben. Der vorliegende Artikel nimmt eine kritische Analyse der dort entstehenden Ökonomie vor. Dazu werden die Ziele untersucht, die die Unternehmen mit einer Präsenz in Second Life verfolgen und bestehende Geschäftsmodelle vorgestellt. Hiernach werden die Bekanntheit, das Nutzungsverhalten und die Wirkung von Marketing-Maßnahmen auf die User betrachtet. Die daraus gewonnen Erkenntnisse dienen als Grundlage für die empirische Studie zu dem im Jahr 2007 vom Medienkonzern Springer herausgebrachten E-Paper AvaStar. Die grundsätzliche Fragestellung lautete: Kann der AvaStar zu einem erfolgreichen Online-Erlösmodell werden? Hierzu wurden Hypothesen zur Informations- und Orientierungssuche, zum Ausstrahlungseffekt der realen Dachmarke auf das virtuelle Produkt, zur Zahlungsbereitschaft sowie zur medialen Erscheinungsform untersucht. Insgesamt kommt der Artikel zu dem Ergebnis, dass Second Life einen hohen Bekanntheitsgrad hat, die Erfolgsaussichten jedoch auf Grund der niedrigen Zahl der tatsächlich aktiven Nutzer als gering einzuschätzen sind."[Autorenreferat]

The aim of the paper is to analyze and interpret uses of human remains in traditional cultures of New Guinea. The author discusses four groups of artifacts: ancestor cult, war trophy, items of everyday needs, and body adornments. The author provides detailed information from selected cultures of New Guinea. It is shown that artifacts made from human remains were not an isolated phenomenon, but were an integral part of cultural customs and way of life in particular cultures.
