This paper explores the connections between ethnicity and sexuality. Racial, ethnic, and national boundaries are also sexual boundaries. The borderlands dividing racial, ethnic, and national identities and communities constitute ethnosexual frontiers, erotic intersections that are heavily patrolled, policed, and protected, yet regularly are penetrated by individuals forging sexual links with ethnic "others." Normative heterosexuality is a central component of racial, ethnic, and nationalist ideologies; both adherence to and deviation from approved sexual identities and behaviors define and reinforce racial, ethnic, and nationalist regimes. To illustrate the ethnicity/sexuality nexus and to show the utility of revealing this intimate bond for understanding ethnic relations, I review constructionist models of ethnicity and sexuality in the social sciences and humanities, and I discuss ethnosexual boundary processes in several historical and contemporary settings: the sexual policing of nationalism, sexual aspects of US-American Indian relations, and the sexualization of the black-white color line.

omprehensive sexuality education (CSE) is increasingly accepted as the most preferred way of structurally enhancing young peoples' sexual and reproductive well-being. A historical development can be seen from "conventional," health-based programs to empowerment-directed, rights-based approaches. Notably the latter have an enormous potential to enable young people to develop accurate and age-appropriate sexual knowledge, attitudes, skills, intentions, and behaviors that contribute to safe, healthy, positive, and gender-equitable relationships. There is ample evidence of program effectiveness, provided basic principles are adhered to in terms of content (e.g., adoption of a broad curriculum, including gender and rights as core elements) and delivery (e.g., learner centeredness). Additional and crucial levers of success are appropriate teacher training, the availability of sexual health services and supplies, and an altogether enabling (school, cultural, and political) context. CSE's potential extends far beyond individual sexual health outcomes toward, for instance, school social climates and countries' socioeconomic development. CSE is gaining worldwide political commitment, but a huge gap remains between political frameworks and actual implementation. For CSE to reach scale and its full potential, multicomponent approaches are called for that also address social, ideological, and infrastructural barriers on international, national, and local levels. CSE is a work never done. Current unfinished business comprises, among others, fighting persevering opposition, advancing equitable international cooperation, and realizing ongoing innovation in specific content, delivery, and research-methodological areas.

The stereotype of "Platonic love" that developed during the Renaissance implies a type of relationship, between two people of the opposite gender, which does not involve sexual activity. A new examination of certain relevant texts by Neoplatonists such as Plotinus, Porphyry, Hierocles, Hermias, Proclus and Olympiodorus, written during the period of Late Antiquity, establish that the question of sexuality is present in the very architecture of their systems, thus maintaining a coherent approach over time. "Mixed love", tending towards the sexual union that enables the conception of children, is morally good. Through an exegesis of the Symposium, Phaedrus and First Alcibiades, each of these Neoplatonic philosophers explores sexuality through the prisms of cosmology, ethics and political theory.

This chapter reviews the risk factors and treatment options for sexuality and gender diverse populations. Sexuality is a person's sense of themselves as a sexual person and usually reflects their sexual attraction and sexual practice. Heterosexual people are sexually attracted to people of the opposite gender, lesbian women are sexually attracted to other women, gay men are sexually attracted to other men, bisexual people are sexually attracted to people of any gender, and queer people are sexually attracted to people of all genders (queer is also an umbrella term for sexuality and gender diverse people). Evidence from three nationally representative surveys suggests 3.2% of Australian adults report a non-heterosexual identity . Gender identity means the sense a person has of having a particular gender. Cisgender people identify with the sex they were assigned at birth, transgender people's gender does not align with the sex they were assigned at birth. Most transgender people identify as either woman/ female or man/male, however people who feel their gender does not align with either female or male, or exclusively with male or female, use the terms non-binary or gender fluid. There is no reliable evidence on the proportion of gender diverse people in Australia; a systematic review of US population-based surveys provided a population estimate of 0.5%. Establishing an evidence base for patterns of alcohol use and treatment outcomes among sexuality and gender diverse people is challenging. Sexuality and/or gender identity are rarely captured in large surveys and treatment studies, and markers are not included in the Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment Services National Minimum Data Set for all government funded alcohol and other drug treatment specialist services.
