AbstractThe article provides a brief review of theory and research on the roles of guilt, shame, and sympathy in predicting moral behaviors. Two models are presented and contrasted. The guilt‐based model proposes that guilt and shame jointly predict prosocial and aggressive behaviors. In contrast, the sympathy‐based model suggests that perspective taking and sympathy are linked to such behaviors. In both models, prosocial moral reasoning is proposed as a possible mediator in these relations. Results from a study of college students suggest support for both models. Moreover, there is evidence that prosocial moral reasoning mediates the relations between these moral emotions and moral behaviors. The implications for the need to incorporate moral emotions and cognitions into existing models of morality are discussed and emphasized.
This paper is divided into two parts. Part I contains a critique of two existing 'power indexes'—the Shapley-Shubik index and the Banzhaf index. Part II begins with a rigorous analysis of the relationship between luck, decisiveness and success. It is shown then that the supposed 'paradoxes of power' generated by the other indexes can be easily dissolved. An extended application of the method of analysis to the US Constitutional Convention of 1787 follows. Finally, the relation between decisiveness (a probability) and power (a capability) is presented, and the question posed in the title is answered. At two points, the relevance of the conceptual points made to the pluralist-elitist debate is made explicit, and support is offered for the view that each side's conclusions follow from its assumptions about the nature of power.

Ibn Khaldun, who is one of the most important figures for 14th century Islamic thought, has constructed a system that is different from the approaches of his contemporaries in the world of Eastern thought and defined his field as the field of Umran (Ilm-i Umran). The thinker constructed a cyclical philosophy of history centered on human and social life by analyzing the general trends of historical events and social relations to reach general governing rules concerning the relation between system and element. built on this Umran science he also conceptualization each of the elements in question. In order to understand Ibn Khaldun's system of thought in general and his state philosophy in particular, as he treats the state and society as two different structures in accordance with the current sociological approach and defines the formation process of both in sociological terms, it is necessary to briefly review some of the basic concepts used by the state and determined some main elements. In the first part of our work in this framework, explanations were given to explain the concepts of Umran, Asabiyet, Bedouin and Hadarism, Riyaset and Mülk (State) which constitutes Ibn Khaldun's thought. In terms of Ibn Khaldun's political thought, we are trying to understand the role of life, people's anticipation and the solidarity that leads to the emergence of the political appearance and functions of the social organization, which is at the center of state philosophy. Ibn Khaldun's system of thought regards the elements of the state mechanism and the general functioning of people as an inevitable consequence of living together to meet some of their needs, and this influences ways of thinking about the progress of the state. Following the state philosophy of Ibn Khaldun, we have examined the state philosophy of Aristotle and Thomas Hobbes in order to be able to develop a comparative approach to the controversial issue of "State: Means or End?" Together with the views of the two thinkers, we included a comparative assessment of this problem. Finally, we tried to share an evaluation of how we discussed and assessed the issues during the article as a conclusion. ; 14. Solo exhibition as part of Avoidance-Avoidance project (script 8). Includes paintings, digital video, sculpture, drawing and a play. Avoidance—Avoidance combines a performed play staged amongst exhibited art works. Each presentation comprises a new edited site-specific script and a new body of accompanying artworks that act as both autonomous artworks and stage devices. The play centres on two characters based on the film director Mary Ellen Bute and her real-life lover and cinematographer Ted Nemeth. The dialogue is a love story which comments on the methods of concealment that are used both in our personal intimate relationships and more broadly speaking in politics where 'trust' and 'transparency' are a valuable currency.
