This paper deals with the functions and socio-political meanings of the Geometric and early Archaic central-hearth temples in Crete: the Delphinion (ca. end of the 8th cent. BC) and the West acropolis temple in Dreros; the temple A in Prinias (ca. 650-640 BC); the temple B in Kommos (800-600 BC). These temples show several differences in their plan and location of the god and of the sacrificial structures. Their ritual focus is the central eschara – altar which establishes an inner space for the civic sacrifice together with the outer open space. The relationship between the sacrifice participants and the presence of the god – e.g. in the Dreros Delphinion the well-known cult images of the Apollinian triad – implies a socio-political symbolism involving the members of an aristocratic city. The case of Kommos is made different by the extra-urban function of the sanctuary, which focuses during phases B1-2 on the "Phoenician" tripillar shrine

; This paper reviews the importance of the iconography of Archangel St. Michael in coin mintages in the late Middle Ages. Beginning by its presence in the Byzantine coins in the eleventh century, we explain the reasons of the Archangel's appearance in this Empire, and the importance of its sanctuaries and veneration in Occident. It did not appear on coins, however, until mid fourteenth century in France, in the French Valois dynasty at the beginning of The Hundred Years' War, setting an important political impact. Not until the second half of the fifteenth century did this impact resume, at that moment in England, France and Naples the Archangel's image dominated a few coinage series with a very similar iconography. The monarchs of those countries felt the need to justify their power and decided to use the divine endorsement which contributed to their victory over the rebellions organised by their nobility, drawing upon the analogy of the victory of the Archangel over the rebel demons that rose against God.

The symbol of apocalypse contains strong political connotations linked to eschatological expectations: the faith in a divine intervention on the course of history has often generated social instability, outbreaks of violence, and ideological claims. This article aims to demonstrate as the overlap between apocalyptic symbolism and political phenomena is still ongoing, even assuming new critical implications in connection with recent geopolitical dynamics on a global scale. The detection of the apocalyptic trends is supported by a historical premise, a brief summary of theoretical perspectives, and three study cases: the presence of messianic aspects in US imperialism, the influence of the doctrine of the Hidden Imam in the Iranian politics during the Ahmadinejad presidency, and the use of apocalyptic prophecies in the Islamic State's propaganda ; The symbol of apocalypse contains strong political connotations linked to eschatological expectations: the faith in a divine intervention on the course of history has often generated social instability, outbreaks of violence, and ideological claims. This article aims to demonstrate as the overlap between apocalyptic symbolism and political phenomena is still ongoing, even assuming new critical implications in connection with recent geopolitical dynamics on a global scale. The detection of the apocalyptic trends is supported by a historical premise, a brief summary of theoretical perspectives, and three study cases: the presence of messianic aspects in US imperialism, the influence of the doctrine of the Hidden Imam in the Iranian politics during the Ahmadinejad presidency, and the use of apocalyptic prophecies in the Islamic State's propaganda
