This book focuses on some English-speaking women philosophers who have been major actors since the 20th century in the field of practical philosophy, namely political and social philosophy, feminist approaches to philosophy, moral psychology, the theory of action and ethics. The book explores topics linked to the main aspects of the thought of those philosophers, i.e. Elizabeth Anscombe, Judith Butler, Philippa Foot, Nancy Fraser, Carol Gilligan and Martha Nussbaum. Six women French commentators have written a chapter on each of those women anglo-american philosophers, creating a dialogue as they think with them, elaborating their own positions in their respective fields.

Historical research into the Armenian Genocide has grown tremendously in recent years, but much of it has focused on large-scale questions related to Ottoman policy or the scope of the killing. This comprehensive collection of essays provides a full account of the complexities of sex and gender as they relate to HIV/AIDS, in Ghana specifically and in Africa more generally. They offer perspectives from various disciplines and fields of study including anthropology, demography, history, literature, public health and sociology. "The chapter proposes to conceptualise constitutional courts as self-referentially operating, autopoietic systems. From a perspective of social systems theory, constitutional courts are autopoietic organisations that are capable of generating sufficient cognitive complexity to regulate themselves. This is demonstrated in relation to three aspects of constitutional court practice: autonomy in docket control, recursive decision-making and the development of consequentialist legal doctrine that makes reflexive use of information concerning the court's own Impact. In the final section, the chapter assesses the role of autopoietic constitutional courts operating in the zone of structural coupling between the legal and the political system." (author's abstract)

This article explores a hitherto neglected aspect of the contemporary Chinese communication network: media outlets at the county level, the lowest level of the media hierarchy in China. It considers whether county level media outlets constitute more autonomy from the state and thus serve as more effective channels for participation and representation. The findings suggest that although official media outlets at the county level enjoy a relatively more relaxed political environment, their institutional and structural nature, combined with the reporting systemfrom the Mao era and the strong local social network powerfully inhibit them from developing into an arena for critical debate. This contribution to a symposium on John Rawls explores the conflict between Rawls's profound commitment to equality & his just as profound & democratic dedication to consensus as the first stepping stone of justice. Rawls's treatment of equality, which was intricate, multidimensional, & of interest to him throughout his work, is outlined, followed by a discussion of his views on justice, social inequality, & pluralism. Next is a consideration of egalitarianism -- Rawlsian & otherwise -- & of the values of our political culture. With Rawls's endeavors to find an accord between liberal notions of political equality & pluralism came an unintentional erosion of the egalitarian aspect of his liberalism. K. Coddon
