Gender und Diversity spielen eine wesentliche Rolle bei der Produktion von Wissen. Somit sind Gender und Diversity nicht nur relevant für die Frage, wer an Forschung und Lehre wie beteiligt ist, sondern auch für die Frage, welches Verständnis von Wissenschaft und damit verbundene gesellschaftliche Konsequenzen zum Tragen kommt. Mit diesem Sammelband liegen aktuelle Studien zu Transfer und Implementierung von Gender und Diversity in Natur-, Technik- und Planungswissenschaften vor. Diese führen erstens in die Fachgebiete der Geschlechter- und Diversitätsforschung in MINT und Planung ein, präsentieren zweitens die Möglichkeiten für die Integration von Geschlechter- und Diversitätsforschung in die Lehre in MINT und stellen drittens die Geschlechter- und Diversitätsforschung zu Fachkulturen der Wissenschaft vor. This book explores how cities are shaped by the lived experiences of inhabitants and examines the ways they develop strategies to cope with daily and unexpected challenges. It argues that migration, livelihood, and public health challenges result from inadequacies in the hard city—urban assets, such as land, infrastructure, and housing, and asserts that these challenges and escalating vulnerabilities are best negotiated using the soft city—social capital and community networks. In so doing, the authors criticise a singular knowledge system and argue for a granular, nuanced understanding of cities—of the interrelations between people in places, everyday urbanisms, social relationships, cultural practices, and histories. Contributions by urban planners, sociologists, anthropologists, architects, and landscape architects on the role and scope of urban design in creating more just and inclusive cities. Scholars who write about justice and the city rarely consider the practices and processes of urban design, while discourses on urban design often neglect concerns about justice. The editors of Just Urban Design take the position that urban design interventions have direct and important implications for justice in the city. The history of Europe in the 20th century is closely tied to the history of urban planning. Social and economic progress but also the brute treatment of people and nature throughout Europe were possible due to the use of urban planning and the other levels of spatial planning. Thereby, planning has constituted itself in Europe as an international subject. Since its emergence, through intense exchange but also competition, despite country differences, planning has developed as a European field of practice and scientific discipline. Planning is here much more than the addition of individual histories; however, historiography has treated this history very selective regarding geography and content. This book searches for an understanding of the historiography of planning in a European dimension. Scholars from Eastern and Western, Southern and Northern Europe address the issues of the public led production of city and the social functions of urban planning in capitalist and state-socialist countries. "Many of the women whose names are known to history from Classical Athens were metics or immigrants, linked in the literature with assumptions of being 'sexually exploitable.' Despite recent scholarship on women in Athens beyond notions of the 'citizen wife' and the 'common prostitute,' the scholarship on women, both citizen and foreign, is focused almost exclusively on women in the reproductive and sexual economy of the city. This book examines the position of metic women in Classical Athens, to understand the social and economic role of metic women in the city, beyond the sexual labor market. This book contributes to two important aspects of the history of life in 5th century Athens: it explores our knowledge of metics, a little-researched group, and contributes to the study if women in antiquity, which has traditionally divided women socially between citizen-wives and everyone else. This tradition has wrongly situated metic women, because they could not legally be wives, as some variety of whores. Author Rebecca Kennedy critiques the traditional approach to the study of women through an examination of primary literature on non-citizen women in the Classical period. She then constructs new approaches to the study of metic women in Classical Athens that fit the evidence and open up further paths for exploration. L'approche retenue ne privilégie pas, contrairement à ce qui a souvent été fait jusqu'ici, la réaction des cités et des citoyens devant la pauvreté et ne se concentre pas sur la question de l'assistanat ni de la charité mais interroge, sous l'impulsion des apports de la sociologie récente, l'existence de pratiques de pauvres, susceptibles de définir un groupe social. La question de la visibilité et des enjeux de la pauvreté est aussi au cœur de nombreuses contributions, avec tout particulièrement les représentations iconographiques de la pauvreté. Sans prétendre à l'exhaustivité, ce volume cherche à poser les premiers jalons d'une étude plus générale de la pauvreté dans l'Antiquité, qui ne réduise pas exclusivement le phénomène à une histoire des conflits sociaux, ni à une étude des disparités économiques, mais s'applique à revenir aux pauvres mêmes. = While the fight against poverty is a renewed concern in our contemporary society since the beginning of the XXIst century, this collective work aims to explore different aspects of poverty in Ancient Greece. The approach does not emphasize the response of cities and citizens to poverty and does not focus on the issue of the assistantship or charity unlike what has often been done so far. It rather questions thanks to the contributions of the recent sociology, the existence of poor pratice, likely to define a social group. The question of visibility and issues of poverty is at the heart of many papers, especially with the iconographic representations of poverty. Without claiming to be exhaustive, this volume aims to lay the groundwork for a more general study of poverty in Antiquity that will not only reduces the phenomenon to a history of social conflicts, or consideration of economic disparities but applies to focus on the poor themselves

Everyday streets are both the most used and most undervalued of cities' public spaces. They are places of social aggregation, bringing together those belonging to different classes, genders, ages, ethnicities and nationalities. They comprise not just the familiar outdoor spaces that we use to move and interact but also urban blocks, interiors, depths and hinterlands, which are integral to their nature and contribute to their vitality. Everyday streets are physically and socially shaped by the lives of the people and things that inhabit them through a reciprocal dance with multiple overlapping temporalities. The primary focus of this book is an inclusive approach to understanding and designing everyday streets. It offers an analysis of many aspects of everyday streets from cities around the globe. From the regular rectilinear urban blocks of Montreal to the military-regulated narrow alleyways of Naples, and from the resilient market streets of London to the crammed commercial streets of Chennai, the streets in this book were all conceived with a certain level of control.
