Objective: To describe the educational profile of adolescents who experienced parenting. Method: It is a descriptive study with quantitative approach developed between 2008 and 2009, with 204 adolescents, of both sexes who experienced parenting. The data collecting took place from a questionnaire referring to social and demographic variables and was organized and tabulated using the software EPI-INFO 6.04. Results: The age average was between 17 and 19 years old, 80% of adolescents did not attend school and 58,3% had not finished primary school, the reasons were due to their jobs and pregnancy. Conclusion: The adolescents have demonstrated low schooling due to conciliation of parenting and studies. It is evident the necessity of new ways of orientating these adolescents to return and/or keep educational activities as an example of human dignity for themselves and their children.

The development of a strict methodology of observation & analysis in soc sci has always met with resistance. In the current debate on this topic in the US, 2 positions can be distinguished. There are the 'theorists,' who find their inspiration in the work of recent philosophers such as H. Marcuse & J.-P. Sartre; they rate the formation of a pol'al theory as a 1st priority. Then there are the 'behaviorists,' whose first care is for sci'fic method. This contrast is reviewed on the basis of the document, "Political Science at Berkeley, An Invitation to a Discussion," which was published anonymously by a group of students. The criticism of these students can be summarized under the headings 'commitment' & 'relevance.' As far as commitment is concerned, the critics reproach the behaviorists for not taking stands in important contemporary moral issues, & for identifying with the status quo. It is argued here that what leads to acceptance of & identification with the existing pol'al order is not behaviorist methodology as such, but rather the mood of the behaviorists. As far as 'relevance' is concerned, the critics are impatient with the futile detail analysis & data collecting of the behaviorists. The behaviorists' use of a strict methodology of explanation by generalization leads to a reduction of the scope of analysis. Then only the 'easy' aspects ('easy' to quantify, 'easy' to collect, etc) are analyzed, & discontinuous developments are neglected. The argument presented here is that the lack of a dynamic theory of the pol'al process is an impediment indeed for pol'al sci, but that, again, behaviorism as such cannot be accused of being 'conservative' or 'conformistic': the refutation of race theories, for example, was rather a radical undertaking. It is concluded that for the time being it is not necessary to lay other bounds on pol'al sci than those that follow from the claims of rational debate & intellectual honesty. HA.

This article deals with two aspects of inflation: distributive conflict and the role of extra money. In this context, the paper discusses some characteristic features of inflation processes in Brazil, difficulties of the reproduction of the money during inflation and aspects solved by the Real Plan. Finally, Plano Real's prospects are adressed. (Rev Econ Polit/DÜI)

The work of Maria Isaura Pereira de Queiroz has been influential in the understanding of social change in Brazil. Her analyses of the modifications, persistence, adaptations and resistance that have flourished in many spheres of social life provide elements for a reading of the social-anthropological singularities of current change processes that have gone on in the country since the 1950s. Based on an analysis in which the microsociological and macrosociological aspects are combined, she has not only drawn a sociological profile of some environments (rural neighbourhoods, for example), but also developed an approach that shows how Brazilian society has changed under increasing urbanization and industrialization - processes which create interactions, practices and specific contexts that are unique to Brazil and do not merely mirror the trajectory followed by other nations.

Power as the central concept for the analysis of causality in social life: A conceptual-analytical elaboration
Reinoud Bosch
This article provides a description of a conceptual analysis of 'power'. Defining 'power' as 'the relative ability to affect or receive', a method for conceptual analysis is posited and examples are provided of the conceptual analysis of power. An overview is provided of the resulting categories and subcategories of the concept, and possibilities for the use of the concept as a sensitizing concept in the analysis of causality in social life are indicated.
In their replies Fred Wester and Harrie Jansen discuss some aspects of causality and power that need further attention. In his reaction Reinoud Bosch further elaborates on his perspective on the power concept.

The purpose of this article is to present the perspective of the neopragmatist philosopher Richard Rorty on the philosophy and professional activity of its practitioners. In this context, we privilege some aspects of his anti-representational criticism to the modern philosophical legacy and also his prognosis about what the philosophical activity can become in the contemporaneity. Throughout Rorty's argument, we have a comprehensive critique of the dominant epistemological notion of a specular mental image and, on the other hand, the proposition of a necessary transition to the cultural field in which the philosophical emphasis would lie in the possibilities of using language as a mode of dealing with the world.

When Charles Taylor reflected about the background history-cultural of occidental modernity, he sets the hermeneutic task to do a rereading on the multiple facets of social modernity imaginaries. These imaginaries ended up being diversified in a plurality triadic and constitutive of multiple culture forms. In this way, how asserts the Canadian philosopher, there is a sphere of the modern social facet that is under the aegis of economy. Which is interlaced with the structural face of modernity as a public sphere. Finally, we have the Self-Government of the people in your nuclear aspect of democratic sovereignty. In this paper, we have the intention to follow the thought of Taylor, in your reconstruction of this pluralism type, that examines about sources, ideas and practices democratic articulated from these constitutive facets and articulator of modern social imaginaries.

Objective: Get to know the topics approached in national publications on women's sexual health and identify the
cultural and social aspects envisaged. Method: Descriptive-analytical bibliographic review made in the Virtual Health
Library database, using the following criteria: national publications from 2000 to 2011, full texts involving the female
population. Twelve publications were analyzed through an integrative literature review. Results: The interface
between women's sexual health and the cultural aspects is reflected on the behavior, attitudes and lifestyles. The
vulnerability to which women are exposed originate from several natures, represent several cultures and, sometimes,
are crystallized by ongoing Sexually Transmitted Diseases, unwanted pregnancy and violence. Conclusion: By updating
the knowledge on factors that interfere on the care of women's sexual health, it is evident that a less technical and
more emancipatory sexual health care approach is urgent.
