; This study aimed to investigate the arrival of private schools in a district in the east side of Sao Paulo and it is based on secondary treatment of statistical data, questionnaires applied in public and private schools, and interviews with parents, teachers, and youngsters in the district. The initial hypothesis proposed that the modification on local school offer would reveal the process of internal differentiation of low-income groups, derived from the increase of income on the base of Brazilian social pyramid during Lula's government. The results of the statistical study allowed us to propose a typology of subprefectures according to school offer. The interviews revealed a slow process of cultural capital accumulation and lifestyle modifications, connected to the university diplomas owned by the second generation of interviewed families. This fraction of low-income classes, in which cultural capital is higher, essentially composes the demand for private education in the district. On the particular case of this district, the article approaches the characteristics of offer and educational strategies identified in this reduced group of families, a process connected to the acquisition of cultural capital during two generations, as well as to women's work.

The present article reflects on the claiming "movements" for the social development of Sub-Saharan Africa seen from the discourses of the leaders: an internal colonialism? in the context of social progress, checking the discourses of the leaders in the period between (1957 - 2021) in a historical-social and political perspective, a work that was developed within the framework of a module of the PhD programmer. In relation to the objectives, we sought to question whether or not it is colonial continuities that condition the advance and retreat of the African continent south of the Sahara in matters of social development. The choice of theme is justified because there are many contradictions between the speeches made by African leaders during the period of the struggle for independence where they guaranteed the well-being of the population, which reached its peak in the 1960s, and the implementation of commitments made and which are embodied in the charter of the Organization of African Unity, now the African Union. Methodologically, the study was based on descriptive research with a qualitative approach. We also used specialized bibliography on the subject. We also made use of direct observation through news broadcast on various national and international television and radio stations. Finally, we also made use of the information available on the websites of institutions we consider to be reliable, which periodically publish reports on the social situation of the countries in this region. Regarding the results, we note that the speeches proclaimed by the leaders of this geographical space are adverse to social, economic and political emancipation, conditioned in part by the former colonies that still exert certain influences. We also note that there is a lack of feasible public policies from the African governments themselves to satisfy the primary needs of their populations.

This critical commentary extends the debate on social determinants of health and disease. Its main argument is that while further studies are unnecessary to demonstrate the fundamentally social distribution of health outcomes, extant analyses rarely engage with the fact that poverty and other forms of oppression are political choices made by societies, which are both contemporaneously contingent and historically situated. This view must guide research and debate in the area so that studies intending to bring injustice to light do not end up naturalizing it. Research based on this fundamental understanding may help to overcome the narrow scope of multicausal black box approaches, which do not analyze the interrelations among determinants and make only a limited contribution to the construction of healthy societies.

Studies and experiments in social psychology, according to the view of Acsh (1951) suggest that individuals tend to mimic the pattern of behavior in a given nucleus that has a majority reflecting on the same object. Even if they reason against the contrary, these people tend to change their opinion on the grounds of the group. This Milgram group (2009) also reflects on the authority profile present in them, in which it induces those surveyed to follow a profile of influence in the formation of their choices and answers. Nevertheless, according to a psychological political analysis, it points to an influence of groups that have in it actors who exercise a certain authority, such as religious leaders, in the figure of the church, who can persuade their followers by explaining this theory. This social conformism also reflects the desire not to show up or vulnerable the majority. Following this line of social psychology, this article will explore electoral elections through the influence of religious and local leaders in the persuasion of the electoral vote.

The main objective of this article is to present some of the main arguments by Eric Weil that support the relevant thesis of the importance of free and deliberate choice of human beings for rational life. This demonstrates, therefore, that it is reasonable to search for a more and more humanized existence, founded on fundamental values of human life, such as honesty, justice and happiness. This makes gradually and progressively possible to overcome and to deter, as far as possible, different types of violence. However, human beings are aware that total eradication of violence in the world is unthinkable, since freedom of human beings is a process of continuous deliberation and choice, at personal, communal and social level.

Social policy: Targeting or Universalism? Public debate on social policies in Brazil has focused on the choice between targeted and universal programs. The article argues that the choice is unclear and misleading unless a previous decision is taken concerning principles of social justice. After distinguishing three different connotations of targeting - as residualism, conditionality or retification - and noting that universal programs may be compatible with minimalist social policy, the article goes on to make explicit a number of neglected options.
