The article concentrates on the most essential elements of a social science as research, whereby research is strictly interpreted as the verification of a theory in a particular field but neither as "theorie sans terrain" nor "terrain sans theorie". We encounter water every day. It is a vital substance biologically as much as socially. We may notice this in art exhibitions and university courses communicating submersed and subversive facts about water; the rhythms of floods and tides resonating with fishing techniques and conflict patterns; inundations carrying moral and political weight as much as water and pollution; and particular mixtures of water and land generating wealth, anxieties and memories. In short, wherever people deal with water, they are involved not only with a physical element, but also with social relations. In fact, whenever we pretend that water is foremost the molecule H2O, we ignore all the political, economic, infrastructural, emotional and legal aspects of this element without which water would not be what it is for us today. This issue explores some of the ways in which water is profoundly social, both in the sense of being co-produced by social life, and by being a core constituent of it. Some contributions to this issue do this through the examples listed above. Others illustrate the way water positions people and their perspectives. A few show how large water infrastructures reshuffle social lives. And some suggest that water may sometimes be better imagined as a word in the plural, rather than a singular, universal substance.

Die vorliegende Arbeit ist eine Bestandsaufnahme der CSR-Aktivitäten von Unternehmen in der österreichischen Nahrungs- und Genussmittelindustrie. Mittels der strukturierten Inhaltsanalyse nach Mayring wurden 82 Websites von Unternehmen der Nahrungs- und Genussmittelindustrie auf ihre Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)-Aktivitäten analysiert. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die strukturierte Aufbereitung von CSR-Aktivitäten in Form von Nachhaltigkeitsberichten nicht stark verbreitet ist. Entgegen der Theorie werden nicht alle drei Säulen der Triple-Bottom-Line als gleichwertig angesehen. Von den untersuchten Unternehmen werden vorrangig ökonomische und soziale Belange verfolgt. Die primär angesprochenen Stakeholder der CSR-Aktivitäten waren Kunden, Mitarbeiter, Lieferanten, die Gesellschaft insgesamt, Shareholder und die Regierung. Weitere Aktivitäten beziehen sich auf die unternehmensinterne Optimierung wie Standort, Logistik und strategische Ziele. ; Within this thesis corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities of companies in the Austrian food industry were analyzed. The qualitative content analysis was used to analyze 82 websites regarding the CSR activities of companies within the Austrian food industry. The results underline that the structured reprocessing of CSR activities such as sustainability reports are not widely-used in the food industry. However, usually companies do publish facts about their CSR activities in an unstructured way. Referring to the triple-bottom-line companies act primarily within the economic and social field of CSR. Ecology seems to be of minor importance for companies. The primarily addressed stakeholder groups are employees, suppliers, customers, the society at large, shareholder and the government. In der Theoriediskussion der Sozialen Arbeit wird in neuerer Zeit die These vertreten, daß eine gesellschaftliche "Normalisierung" der Sozialpädagogik zu verzeichnen sei. Die These stützt sich dabei im wesentlichen auf die Ausweitung sozialpädagogischer Handlungsfelder. Sie wird im vorliegenden Beitrag mit Befunden zu einer sozialstrukturellen "Spaltung der Gesellschaft" konfrontiert, und es wird nach den Konzequenzen sowohl für die Adressaten als auch die Konzeptionen und Zielperspektiven Sozialer Arbeit gefragt. Unter Rekurs auf verfassungstheoretische Überlegungen wird die Bedeutung sozialer Bürgerrechte für die Theorie Sozialer Arbeit erörtert und ihre Leistungsfähigkeit im Hinblick auf die Konstitution demokratischer Gemeinwesen diskutiert. This thesis is basically substantiated by the expansion of the fields of action of social work. The author confronts this thesis with findings concerning a socio-structural "division of society" and enquires into the consequences for the clients, on the one hand, and for the conceptions and objectives of social work, on the other. Drawing on arguments of constitutional theory, he analyzes the significance of social civil rights for the theory of social work and discusses its potentials regarding the constitution of a democratic polity. China testet zurzeit verschiedene Social-Scoring-Systeme. Ziel ist, für jede:n Bürger:in, aber auch für jedes Unternehmen und jede Organisation einen Verhaltenswert in Echtzeit zu ermitteln. Basierend auf dem individuellen Verhaltenswert wird der Zugang zu öffentlich bereitgestellten Gütern und Dienstleistungen ermöglicht. Eine solche Entwicklung scheint in demokratischen Staaten undenkbar. Doch auch in Deutschland finden Social-Scoring-Systeme Anwendung, wenngleich diese auf bestimmte Teilbereiche begrenzt sind. Wozu wird Social Scoring hierzulande eingesetzt? Und welche Potenziale und Gefahren bergen diese Anwendungen?

Ökologische und soziale Themen werden für Marken zunehmend erfolgsrelevant. Jedoch können Nachhaltigkeitsversprechen einer Marke zu Vertrauensvorbehalten seitens der Stakeholder führen, weshalb die Glaubwürdigkeit einer Nachhaltigkeitsmarke besonders wichtig ist. Zudem wird die Wahrnehmung einer Nachhaltigkeitsmarke heutzutage verstärkt durch Stakeholder mitbestimmt, da sie mittels Social Media eigene Inhalte verfassen und im Social Web veröffentlichen können. Vor diesem Hintergrund wurde in der Dissertation erörtert, wie ein Unternehmen seine Marke durch ökologische und soziale Themen stärken kann. Außerdem wurde untersucht, wo in diesem Entwicklungsprozess soziale Medien gezielt eingesetzt werden können. In diesem Kontext wurde auch der Frage nachgegangen, wie die von Stakeholdern im Social Web verfassten Inhalte in Übereinstimmung mit einer intendierten Nachhaltigkeitsmarke gebracht und deren Kraft genutzt werden können. Zentrales Ergebnis der Dissertation stellt ein anwendungsorientiertes Modell für die systematische Social-Media-Verwendung zur Unterstützung des Nachhaltigkeitsmarkenmanagements dar. ; Ecological and social issues are becoming more and more relevant for a brand's success. However, sustainability promises of a brand can cause misgivings for which reason the credibility of a sustainability brand is very important. Furthermore, a sustainability brand's perception is influenced by stakeholders as they can generate their own content and diffuse it on the social web. Against this background, the PhD thesis discussed how social media can best be used to support the development of a well-established corporate brand to a trustworthy sustainability brand. Additionally, it was examined how measurements and interactions with stakeholders on the social web can be shaped to support this development process. Main result of this thesis is an application-oriented model for the systematic use of social media to enhance sustainability brand management.

Welchen Einfluss können Social Bots auf die politische Meinungsbildung ausüben? Was ist heute technisch machbar? Und wie lassen sich Social Bots erkennen und verhindern? Social Bots sind Computerprogramme, die darauf ausgerichtet sind, in sozialen Netzwerken, beispielsweise auf Facebook oder Twitter, maschinell erstellte Beiträge zu generieren, um Diskurse zu beeinflussen bzw. zu manipulieren. Die TA-Vorstudie bietet einen Überblick über den aktuellen Stand der Technik von Social Bots, Anwendungsfelder und Anwender, Verbreitung sowie tatsächliche und angenommene Risiken. Darüber hinaus wurden der momentane Kenntnisstand zum tatsächlichen Ausmaß des Einsatzes von Social Bots und ihren Wirkungen dargestellt. Im Mittelpunkt der Untersuchung stand die Frage nach den potenziellen Gefahren von Social Bots, die aus einer möglichen Manipulation politischer Diskussionen und Trends in sozialen Netzwerken oder der Beeinflussung des Kaufverhaltens von Personen resultieren. Das Horizon-Scanning bietet eine leicht verständliche Einführung in das Thema Social Bots und deren zukünftige Einflusspotenziale und Einsatzmöglichkeiten in Politik, Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft.
