This research examines migration processes and refugee issues from the perspective of interpretive sociology. It aims to modernize Florian Znaniecki's classic paradigm in light of current migration events. Specifically, the focus is on the sociological monograph titled "The Polish Peasant in Europe and America," both empirically and theoretically. The main thesis asserts the need for a comprehensive theoretical and methodological framework for the study of migration and its associated problems. Given the extensive scope of these phenomena and their direct impact on various social spheres, the research argues for incorporating the "humanistic coefficient" proposed by Florian Znaniecki into the theoretical framework. In this context, the "humanistic coefficient" is applied to refugee problems and contemporary research materials using the biographic method. The research was presented at the Annual Scientific Conference of the Bulgarian Sociological Association in 2022.

The question is beginning to be debated in the field of migration studies as to whether it is possible to formulate an explanatory theory general enough to cover the whole process of emigration and immigration. Charles Price thinks it is doubtful that we are ready for a general account couched in terms of formal theory (Australian Immigration: A Bibliography and Digest, 1966, p. A52). On the other hand, Everett S. Lee has attempted to present a general theory ("A Theory of Migration", Demography, 3, 1966, p. 47–57). The following article by Mangalam and Schwarzweller takes a middle of the road position by formulating a middle-range theory of migration. This is a preliminary effort which other researchers will hopefully modify, clarify, and expand.
Readings in the Sociology of Migration deals with migration as a sociological problem, with greater emphasis on internal migrations than on international migrations. Some of the problems covered by sociological inquiry in the study of migration are discussed, along with theories of migration such as the push-pull theory, differential migration, and motivation for migration. This book is comprised of 16 chapters and opens by outlining types of migration according to the professional and social composition of migrants: mass migration, economic migration from an underdeveloped country, economic e
