This is an interview with Paul Knight conducted concerning his experiences on Sikaiana after being shot down on Sikaiana during the Battle of the Eastern Solomon Islands, August 24, 1942. Three flyers were shot down on Sikaiana: Paul Knight, Calvin Crouch and the Captain, Harold Bingaman. Paul was wounded. This incident is discussed in an article that I wrote: 1989 "Far-away" and "Close-up": World War II and Sikaiana Perceptions of Their Place in the World, in G. White and M. Lindstrom, editors, The Pacific Theater: Islander Representations of World War II, pp 149-165.Honolulu:University of Hawaii Press. Visitors can also listen to songs that were composed by the Sikaiana people to commemorate the event. https://research.library.kutztown.edu/sikaiana_songs_traditional/5/ see time 42.39 and 48:51
This is the year after International Year of the Child; most readers will perceive this as an unnecessary statement as there would be few of us who have not been affected by IYC in some way. Some of us would have attended meetings, conferences, seminars and the like to listen to a veritable plethora of learned, witty, earnest and serious speakers discourse on the rights of the child, and participate in the resulting debates. Others of us made ourselves unpopular with friends and relatives alike by extolling the virtues of IYC, T shirts, sweat shirts, car stickers, badges and other gaudy memorabilia, not to mention raucous renditions of the ubiquitous "Care for Kids" song at some largely inappropriate moment.
An analysis of the Wallon stereotype of the Flemish population is attempted by considering stock phrases & tags expressing the relationships between the two populations. The study of folk traditions holds many problems for historians concerning the research & critical use of complex documentation: (1) oral tradition (popular phrases, songs, by-words, interviews), (2) French & dialectal literature (novels, dramatic works, satirical writings), (3) newspapers. Some typical Fleming presentations are described: the peddler, the play character, the political activist, the peasant, the agricultural worker, & the industrial worker. These presentations usually emphasize the dull-witted & rough aspects of Fleming people. The rise of these stereotypes seems to stem from the social & cultural position of many Flemish immigrants in the Walloon territory. Modified HA.
All the new states in Africa have drafted economic and social development plans, for varying periods. Everywhere one sees political leaders and party functionaries singing the popular song of nation-building while crowds respond with enthusiasm. Thus national planning is increasingly becoming synonymous with nation-building throughout the developing nations of Africa. A common problem facing the leaders of the new nations is not how to draft a brilliant plan or organisational charts; this any state can do by seeking the assistance of planning experts and artists. The problem centres on plan management and implementation. This article raises some of the questions and critical problems implicit in plan execution which have arisen during Tanzania's brief experience of nationhood.
In a speech delivered at the rally commemorating the fifteenth anniversary of the liberation of Korea, the North Korean Premier announced that the peasants in North Korea were now the owners of large-scale collectivised farms and that they had the firm technical foundation for bumper crops every year without strenuous efforts. He declared: "This is the beginning of a world for our farm villages." Another spokesman of the North Korean regime has stated: "It is easy (or good) to work and enjoyable to live in the co-operativised North Korean farms. There is a bumper crop every year in the constantly changing collectivised fields and the peasants' work and living are literally song and dances."

A total of 170 patients who underwent radical hysterectomy and bilateral pelvic lymphadenectomy as primary treatment for node-positive International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage IB1-IIB cervical cancer from January 2002 to December 2008 were retrospectively analyzed. Five published risk models were evaluated in this population. The variables, including common iliac lymph node metastasis and parametrial invasion, were independent predictors of outcome in a multivariate analysis using a Cox regression model. Three distinct prognostic groups (low, intermediate, and high risk) were defined using these variables. Five-year DFS rates for the low-, intermediate-, and high-risk groups were 73.7%, 60.0%, and 25.0%, respectively (P<0.001), and 5-year OS rates were 81.9%, 42.8%, and 25.0%, respectively (P<0.001). The risk model derived in this study provides a novel means for assessing prognosis of patients with node-positive stage IB1-IIB cervical cancer. Future study will focus on external validation of the model and refinement of the risk scoring systems by adding new biologic markers. Keywords: cervical cancer, risk model, lymph node metastasis, disease-free survival, overall survival
