In Chile existieren vielfältige qualitative Forschungsansätze, einer davon ist kritische Sozialpsychologie. Hier geht es um einen Zugang, der die Perspektive der sozialen Akteure einbezieht und von einem lokalen Wissenskonzept ausgeht, das die Irrtümer von Objektivität und wissenschaftlicher Neutralität zurückweist. In diesem Beitrag werden die zentralen Charakteristika einer kritischen Sozialpsychologie und deren Verbindung zu qualitativer Forschung diskutiert. Danach wird der Forschungsprozess beschrieben in seinen Bezügen zu kollektiven Erinnerungen der Opfer von Menschenrechtsverletzungen während des Putsches und der Militärdiktatur in Chile, und es wird gezeigt, in welcher Weise die Forschungsergebnisse künstlerisch-politische Interventionen während der Trauerfeiern zum 11. September 2005 ermöglichten.

One of the characteristics of this perspective has been to develop a viewpoint that incorporates the perspectives of the social actors, considered as agents, and so to assume a situated view of knowledge, from which the aspiration to scientific objectivity and neutrality is renounced. This text will review critical social psychology's central characteristics and its relationship to qualitative research. A process of research will then be described which concerned memories of the coup d'état and the military dictatorship in Chile, and which developed into an intervention in this area. Im Folgenden wird ein Sammelband diskutiert, der sich - bestehend aus Beiträgen unterschiedlicher Autor(inn)en - als Handbuch zur Diskursanalyse präsentiert und den Anspruch erhebt, sowohl in theoretisch-methodologische Grundlagen einzuführen wie auch als Forschungsleitfaden zu dienen. Die Rezension nimmt dabei a) den ursprünglichen Entstehungsrahmen des Buches - die kritische Sozialpsychologie - zum Ausgangspunkt, um die interdisziplinären Bezüge des Bandes auszuweisen, und bietet b) somit ein Orientierungsraster zu den enthaltenen unterschiedlichen Beiträgen; schließlich werden c) deren gemeinsame Grundlagen gezeigt, ohne dabei über die einzelnen Beiträge hinweg die Komplexität des Feldes unzulässig zu simplifizieren. Der Sammelband leistet - so das Fazit - über die Vielfalt der einzelnen Themen hinweg eine kohärente Perspektive auf Diskursanalyse, die - entlang eines an FOUCAULT angelehnten Diskursverständnisses und dessen politischen Implikationen - eine Verknüpfung von linguistischen und ethnomethodologischen Herangehensweisen leistet.

La Evtrapelia, la más divina de las virtudes según los griegos, implica la capacidad de reír sanamente de todo con inclusión de uno mismo. El autor nos habla de lo importante que es reír y, retomando a autores como Petermann, Mansfield y Bergson, que han dedicado parte de su obra a este tema, alude a un proyecto suyo al respecto y hace un llamado para que temáticas como ésta se trabajen en el ámbito académico.

These are notes and comments arising from the seminar that Prof. Santiago Castro-Gomez gave in the Department of Social Psychology at the University of Barcelona in July 2006. These notes, and comments, maybe somewhat disorganized, but they can give an account of an approach that seeks to combine criticism and creating bridges in the production of social sciences between Europe and Latin America.

Assuming conversation as the principal model for understanding social episodes, this work aims at presenting a new paradigm in social psychology, exploring its contributions to psychosocial research. Linguistic skills are presented as the way through which social episodes are constructed, and notions as action, act and position are plotted as useful notions for the understanding of daily life. Then, the application of these notions takes place through examples of emotions, passions and feelings. The conclusion is that this new paradigm in social psychology offers the opportunity to overcome problems from the psychology of a different culture or psychopathology.

Gibraltar – ein 6,5 km² kleines Stück Land an der Südspitze der iberischen Halbinsel, britische Kronkolonie und immer wieder Herd für Kontroversen zwischen Großbritannien und Spanien. An diesem vom Rest Europas fast vergessenen Ort konkurrieren neben Fragen nach der politischen Souveränität auch die Sprachen Spanisch und Englisch miteinander. Dieses Ringen ist bislang von der Sprachwissenschaft wenig beachtet und nur spärlich dokumentiert. Es schlägt sich unter anderem im Code-Switching nieder, dem Hin- und Herwechseln zwischen den beiden Sprachen. Eng verknüpft mit diesem Phänomen ist die sozialpsychologische Frage, ob dessen Auftreten bzw. der Gebrauch der dazugehörigen Techniken identitätsstiftend für seine Sprechergemeinschaft ist. Die vorliegende Dissertation konzentriert sich daher zum einen auf die strukturelle Analyse des Code-Switching, zum anderen darauf aufzuspüren, wie sich die gibraltarische Bevölkerung durch die ihr zur Verfügung stehenden Sprachen positioniert, also Identität konstruiert und immer wieder neu verhandelt. Die Leistung dieser Arbeit ist es, verschiedene Modelle und Konzepte, die bislang nicht auf eine Mehrsprachigkeitssituation angewandt wurden, miteinander zu kombinieren und gewinnbringend einzusetzen, sodass ein differenziertes Bild der gibraltarischen Sprechergemeinschaft entsteht. Die Verknüpfung verschiedener Herangehensweisen und Fragestellungen ist innovativ und das zusammengestellte Material einzigartig in seiner Breite und Qualität, sodass die Analyse der Daten von hohem Erkenntniswert ist.

Modern conceptions of health separate body from soul in the familiar Cartesian dualism. In blood donation this separation is easy to identify: embodiment is a civilizing process, and altruism is the moral basis that supports it. The donor is treated as essentially a vessel of blood, a mere container which can be directed to discharge its contents into blood banks. The biomedical use of blood is not morally neutral; indeed, the donor's moral conscience is mobilised in order to get them to donate blood as a gift, or offering. By associating donors' altruism with their bodies' physical nature as a container from which blood can be extracted, altruism is treated as a physiological phenomenon.

This is a discussion of the cultural roles that memory & forgetting play in society. The article argues that remembrance & oblivion are in constant social conflict. Thus, memory & forgetting are not exclusively individual phenomena, but are to be found in society as a whole. It was not well understood in the twentieth century that memory & forgetting are opposites of the same collective force. Indeed, societal forces guide collective memory even as language sustains it. In the opposite sense, censorship, oppression, & silence work against collective memory, resulting in social forgetfulness. Taken together, social memory & social forgetfulness can be said to provide a culture with its distinctive presences & absences. Thus, the relational stress between remembering & forgetting is one of the prime building blocks of society.

Interactions in internet discussion forums provide data on a variety of social issues. Forums are often a meeting-place for people affected by a given problem; in fact, cyberspace has become a framework of reference in the study of such interaction. The ready availability of the participants' discourse, & the textual nature of the forum's contents, facilitate the use of qualitative methodologies. The present article analyses harassment in internet forums in order to study its subjective implications, especially those aspects related to the formulation of participants' identities. The article also explores the organizational implications of harassment, focusing on its structural & functional dimensions.

According to influential theories of identity in postmodernity, as community bonds loosen, individuals have increasing discretion in the construction of their own identity. In this article we argue for seeing modernization as the progressive psychologization of subjectivity. That reveals the mechanisms of what we can call, following Foucault, 'constituent power': a power that turns the psychological subject's conflicts away from external objects and towards an inner world. It is that inner conflict that promotes the modern preoccupation with identity.

The aim of this study is to identify the links between the exposure to, and use of, TICs in both public and private life. I shall explain how, in spite of my own easy access to TICs, barriers of gender or migration have meant that this is not a universal experience - whether in the public or private domain. For some, TICs are habitually underused and an object of some ignorance; for others, they are both a means and indeed an object of investigation. I shall examine the effects not only of gender and class, but also the production of knowledge about (and access to) TICs, as for example in moral panics over videogames and mobile phones. I shall concentrate on TICs in everyday life, and in the construction of the identity of TICs' users.

In an open-minded discussion, free of commitments to one discipline or another, I try to tackle, explore and unfold the concept of 'sense', without reducing it to mere 'linguistic enunciation' or 'semantic meaning'. I will argue that 'sense' comes into view only when posed against the background of confusion, disorientation or ambiguity. As well as describing its orienting function, its dialogic character and its relationship to "being", I will contend that 'sense' is both an act of opening, and of positioning with regard to the world and the real. If my argument is right, then 'sense' does not aim to limit an object (i.e., defining it); rather, it must try to reach beyond its horizons. 'Sense', then, reveals itself as a search for intelligibility in action - in other words, as critical thought.

Thus, this review a) sets the proposal of this book in its original context, that of critical social psychology, while pointing at its interdisciplinary sources; b) offers a map of contexts of the different contributions; c) analyses the common ground which confers unity upon these different chapters, that show the complexity of the field without over-simplification. This review argues that the book is able to render a coherent perspective despite its plurality, precisely because of this common, unifying core: the contributions of the linguistic turn and of ethnomethodology and, above all, the FOUCAULTian notion of discourse and its political implications. This article is about the many functions that the visibility of an individual's behaviour has for their identity, and for the efficiency of their processes. The analysis addresses three concerns: first, the issue of the visibility-invisibility of behaviour; second, individual and social perception of that visibility-invisibility; and lastly, the impact of that perception on identity and change.
