International audience ; The paper looks back on the 1974 Specialists' Meeting on Rotorcraft Dynamics and the paper on Loads Comparison, and reflects broadly on the ensuing 40 years of aeromechanics R&D and the changes that have taken place. How the 1974 Specialists' Meeting came about and the process of how the Loads Comparison effort was initiated and organized is described, involving as it did, a cooperative effort of disparate industry analysts and government researchers. How these events influenced emerging Army rotorcraft R&D in the Ames environment, and the birth of the AHS San Francisco Bay Area chapter are recalled. To bridge the 40-year span of loads prediction, then and now, new results from today's evolved codes are compared with the original 1974 results. Modern results from RCAS, UMARC, along with CFD/CSD results from the HELIOS/RCAS and GT-Hybrid/DYMORE are presented. Suggestions are offered to address rotorcraft aeromechanics R&D in the future. * Preface The theme of the Fifth Decennial AHS Aeromechanics Specialists' Conference is " Current Challenges and Future Directions in Rotorcraft Aeromechanics. " As we aim toward these challenges and plan future research it is appropriate to look back on the origins of this unique series of five meetings and conferences. Although the technical environment was quite different and the rotorcraft world was of another era, today's challenges trace back to that time. Thus we may draw insight from past approaches and results therefrom and planners of today's research may perhaps benefit from understanding past approaches and lessons learned in the intervening four decades.

Evolving professional, social and political pressures highlight the importance of lifelong learning for clinicians. Continuing medical education (CME) facilitates lifelong learning and is a fundamental factor in the maintenance of certification. The type of CME differs between surgical and non-surgical specialties. CME methods of teaching include lectures, workshops, conferences and simulation training. Interventions involving several modalities, instructional techniques and multiple exposures are more effective. The beneficial effects of CME can be maintained in the long term and can improve clinical outcome. However, quantitative evidence on validity, reliability, efficacy and cost-effectiveness of various methods is lacking. This is especially evident in urology. The effectiveness of CME interventions on maintenance of certification is also unknown. Currently, many specialists fulfil mandatory CME credit requirements opportunistically, therefore erroneously equating number of hours accumulated with competence. New CME interventions must emphasize actual performance and should correlate with clinical outcomes. Improved CME practice must in turn lead to continuing critical reflection, practice modification and implementation with a focus towards excellent patient care.

The concept of state licensure for orientation and mobility specialists was first discussed at the 1986 International Conference of the Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (AER). This article discusses the development of state licensure by AER, subsequent efforts to obtain licensure in Tennessee, and a strategy for pursuing state licensure in other states.

During the last decade international lawyers and IT specialists are brought together to conferences on issues of cyber-security. With various topics covered from such different perspectives, a clash of educations occurs. Lawyers are rarely able to understand the deep technological discussions, while legal presentations might seem too philosophical for the IT professionals, leaving them wondering, what do lawyers want and why. In this environment legal questions that cannot be answered without the deep technological knowledge possessed by the computer experts, should be formulated carefully and very precisely. Therefore, with emphasis on the jus in bello, this article aims to outline a list of issues that inevitably require joint lawyer-IT specialists dialogue and explain their significance from the point of view of international law. These issues include possibilities for digital "marking" of internationally protected objects online required under the existing humanitarian law, developing a "distinctive sign" for cyber-combatants, forewarning the enemy of incoming attacks ("carrying arms visibly") and re-evaluating the concept of "vicinity" to dangerous installations in the context of cyber-space.
