; In this paper I intend to probe into the present and future political implications of the 'choice' of a specific historical memory, while putting the accent on the necessary link between memory studies and media studies in order to conduct a thorough analysis of them. From this theoretical perspective, and grounded on concepts such as 'exemplary memory', what follows is an analysis of the politicalmemory activity of the 'Memorial' Society from an approach to memory focused on giving voice to the victims of political repression, in opposition to the hegemonic memory in present-day Russia, structured around the 'interpretive frame of war'.

; This article aims at shedding light on how France attempted to break free from «the law» of the Spanish Habsburgs as well as to assess to what extent it achieved it during the decades of the 1630s and 1640s. In order to do that, it focuses on a concrete political space and a specific war context: the provinces and fronts of the Spanish Low Countries on the Western corner of the Holy Roman Empire. More specifically, this study covers the period between 1635, when Louis XIII declared war against Philip IV, and 1646, the last time the latter faced two wars in Flanders since the army of the United Provinces did not campaigned next year and the military operations took place only on the French front.
News, documentaries and humanitarian campaigns in the mass media have become the source of accounts on the systematic violence perpetrated against women in the DRC since 1996. These accounts, whether political or media, exploit the specific facts regarding these attacks on women's bodies, rarely visibilizing the true impact of sexual violence on women's lives. This has helped shape a standpoint —already to some extent historically consolidated and ensconced in international forums— that identifies Congolese women as passive victims, as mere raped bodies. It is a standpoint that mobilises pity and compassion in the public and generates an immobilist approach to humanitarian intervention and international aid, rather than promoting frameworks in which Congolese women are relevant players in peacebuilding. This article analyses the different narratives circulating on sexual violence from the perspective of the «social body,» rendering visible problems that arise from the abuse of this type of narrative practice.

Objective: This article analyzes the spaces of informal sociability and the communication of news and rumors in the context of the wars of independence of Mexico and Venezuela between 1809 and 1818, in order to compare the importance that they had in the development of these events. Methodology: This is a documentary and qualitative research, based on a comparative historiographic perspective. The primary sources used come from a selection of various testimonies included in judicial files called causas de infidencia. Originality: We compare specific facts and discursive situations that seek to shed light on the strategies used by the inhabitants of these two territories in the development of the armed conflict. Conclusions: Through this comparative look, it was possible to show how rumors and the news —spread both by written media and word of mouth— became useful strategies to deliver information and seduce adepts into the insurgent cause, in the context of the wars of independence in both territories. This might be perceived as an expression of an incipient "public opinion" and a political culture that was part of —or disseminated— in absolutely social environments, such as the spaces of informal sociability of the time. ; The relations between wars and processes of social structuring have a relevant place in social sciences. This article refers to the colombian civil war of 1851, as the stage for the construction of the Nation-State, from its political and social determinants, the political and military actions of the parties, the regional elites, the clergy, the people, and the implications of the war in the context at the time in the XIXth Century. The sources for this analysis are memoirs, chronicles, official correspondence, and press.
; This axis is interested both in the innovations - multiple problems and attempts - to the people and the towns, as in those specific actors that, in the emergence of a public space that bet on linking the literate with the popular, took relevance in the consolidation of national political orders. Rather than conceiving the town as a defined and finished object - made - this panel wonders the way in which the new actors entered into competition to define or define it as a people, to occur between the regional and the national, and to face fears about their exaltation.
In the framework of the commemoration of the Bicentennial of the Independence of Colombia and, using the method of historical prosopography, this article aims to analyze the contribution of the Franciscan Father Francisco Antonio Florido as a social and political actor in the process of consolidation of the Bases of the republican project through three specific facets in its role as chaplain in the military campaigns, in its protagonism in the political celebrations and in the promotion to the education. It really surprises him how he broke with the entrenched ideological scheme that had linked the ecclesiastical estate with the Spanish monarchy, and became one of the most staunch defenders of the Free Fatherland with a progressive and modern thinking. A verification of the contribution of the ecclesiastical establishment to the process of formation of the Republic.
; The article analyzes the role of the Wilches Calderón family in the regional politics of Santander during Colombia's federalist period (1857–1886). The Wilches ran for office and participated in civil wars in order to defend or attain new positions in the State government. They also established business relationships, as well as marriage and patronage bonds, in order to consolidate their power. For example, one of their main sources of political influence was their membership in the Estrella del Saravita Masonic Lodge. However, the ample political power exercised by the family in Santander crumbled when the family leaders broke their agreements and confronted one another in the electoral and armed struggle arenas. The objective of the paper is to study thedetails of this phenomenon and unravel the history of this family network.
E incluso, en sus balances, advierte errores de los líderes, vinculados a 'la ceguera del poder' ; Bolívar, San Martin and Páez are the only Independence protagonists to whom Martí devotes his celebratory speeches and chronicles. Those texts were published throughout a decade (from 1883 to 1894), exactly when Latin American political and cultural leaders regard themselves as having the right to establish (not without dispute) those "places of memory" (in the sense of Nora 2003) which monumentalize a recent heroic history. The texts by Martí are interesting in this sense: facing the imminent fight for the independence of Cuba, his evocation of past heroic deeds acquires a special symbolic value. It assumes the return to a finished era but from which ethical, social and political key values for the present must be extracted. Martí encourages the cult of the heroes but, at the same time, he imposes specific and divergent meanings. He celebrates the heroic deed but also emphasizes the bond between the leaders and the people, by pointing out the authority of both of them in materializing independency and the exclusion of the latter from the processes of modernization. And also, in his assessment, he warns about the errors of the leaders linked to the 'blindness of power' ; Fil: Zanetti, Susana. [ABSTRACT] This article presents a number of Roman military sites recently discovered in Asturias and León (Northern Iberia). Their specific locations and formal features are related with Roman marching camps – castra aestiva – dating back to the Early Roman Empire period. The paper argues that those sites are most likely related with Cantabrian Wars. Their georeferencing provides us with novel information on military operations that stands apart from traditional interpretations of the classical sources.
; Summary During the 2000s there is a special production of Latin-American fiction films in which the figure of the child appears as the path to visit, restore and criticize the southern cone's dictatorships traumatic past and the revolutionary wars of the 60s, 70's and 80's of the twentieth century. The presence of childhood in these memorial stories has important implications for the definition of the narrative forms through which that past is updated. This work aims to establish a poetics of the genre in three constellations (the child and the misery, sexuality and the child, and the childhood and the past). In a second moment it will go deepen in the analysis of the narrative forms of the third constellation. Its complexity and interest result from the multiplicity of narrative operations that take place in these films where childhood manifests itself through the nostalgia of the adult story about a past that at the same time is object of denunciation of the conditions of an impossible childhood and of the loss of it. But these films not only call a traumatic past linked to the end of childhood, they must also assume the rules of storytelling, producing in the negotiation a poetics (such as the emergence of history) that will be the final object of this work. This poetics, understood as a narrative, political and ideological horizon, will be the result of the analysis made of the seven films of the corpus that relate the past of the dictatorships of Chile and Argentina, and the revolutionary wars of Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and El Salvador. ; Doctorado
