The article presents an overview of the EU-Africa Summit scheduled to be held in Lisbon at the end of 2007. The summit will coincide with Portugal's ascension to the rotating presidency of the EU. Major issues expected to be addressed at the summit include the ongoing political, economic, & social problems in Zimbabwe. Three risks pertaining to the summit are discussed. The first risk is that the summit will be seen as an example of Eurocentric egotism. The second risk is that the summit will concern itself with superficial issues, rather than with serious matters such as the genocide in Darfur. The final risk is that expectations will be so high for the summit that meeting them will be impossible, thus leading to disappointment in both Europe & Africa. R. Young
