Ethnolinguistics in the year 2016 ; O aktualnych zadaniach etnolingwistyki
This article is the voice of Etnolingwityka's editor-in-chief on the current tasks of ethnolinguistics as a scholarly subdiscipline, as well as of the journal. According to the author, of the two foundations of Slavic ethnolinguistics mentioned by Nikita Tolstoy (i.e., its pan-Slavic character and the unity of language and culture) it is mainly the latter that has preserved its topicality: language is the source of knowledge about people and human communities, as well as the basis for building one's identity (individual, national, regional, professional). The agenda of cultural linguistics has been followed by the contributors to the present journal and its editorial team with a focus on various genres of folkore, the problems of the linguistic worldview, and in recent issues with studies on the semantics of selected cultural concepts (family, democracy, equality, otvetstvennost', etc.). Ethnolinguistic research of this sort, seeking "culture in language" (i.e. in the semantic layer of linguistic forms), render ethnolinguistics (especially in its cognitive variant) close to Western cultural or anthropological linguistics. When Slavic ethnolinguistics, being treated as a cultural linguistics, focuses on the semantics of value terms, it stands a good chance of engaging in a dialogue with Western anthropological linguistics and contributing original insights to the common body of research on values. A specific proposal in this direction is the international project EUROJOS. Tak uprawiane badania etnoligwistyczne – szukające "kultury w języku", w semantycznej warstwie form językowych – zbliżają etnolingwistykę (zwłaszcza w jej wariancie kognitywnym) do zachodniej lingwistyki kulturowej.

Defence diplomacy of the Bucharest Nine (B9) countries during the war in Ukraine. The balance of the first year of the war
In: Yearbook of the Institute of East-Central Europe: Rocznik Instytutu Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej, Band 21, Heft 2, S. 109-134
The article concerns the cooperation of NATO's eastern flank countries in support of war-torn Ukraine. The aim of the discussion is to show the actions of the B9 countries, implementing the ideas and tasks of defence diplomacy, undertaken during the first year of the war (24 February, 2022 – 24 February, 2023). This support took place in several key areas: political, diplomatic, military, and humanitarian. It was of fundamental importance for maintaining the functioning and stability of Ukraine and its fighting capabilities, especially in the early period after the Russian Federation's invasion. The author tried to verify the following: how was Ukraine supported in practice? Did all B9 countries equally and with the same level of commitment provide assistance in all the identified areas? What factors could potentially strengthen or weaken the B9 countries' involvement in implementing the ideas of defence diplomacy in Ukraine? The analysis was based on current data and materials made available over the past year in the media and on the Internet.

Komunikacja nauczyciela z uczniami w kontekście literatury pięknej: refleksje studentki II roku pedagogiki
In: Society register, Band 1, Heft 1, S. 209-224
ISSN: 2544-5502
The article refers to relations in the process of communication between teacher and students. The author uses classical literature and an expert interview with an experienced school teacher to bring her point across. The author feels that the described issues are of particular significance for beginner pedagogues. Shakespeare's genius gives a broad perspective on the subject of communication, because in both comedies and dramas we observe the importance of the communication aspect, which may be transferred to the relationship between students and the teacher. This gives a broad picture of the possible scenarios that will appear in the teacher's work and allows one to draw conclusions from the heroes' mistakes, which may be identical to those made in the relationships with students.
The European Language Year - The Bologna Process and Language Policy at Warsaw University ; Europejski Rok Języków - proces boloński i polityka językowa w Uniwersytecie Warszawskim
When the year 2001 was announced the European Language Year this was a good occasion to point out how culturally and linguistically diverse Europe is and how important a role language education plays as a means of getting to know one another, furthering tolerance for various cultures, intensifying and enriching ways of language promotion, and showing how important language skills are for employment and migration in Europe. Both the European Union and the Council of Europe are very actively promoting linguistic diversity and language education. The Bologna Declaration, which was signed in 1999, posits the development of a European Space of Higher Education by 2010. The aim of this Bolognese process is to create adequate conditions of teaching at the university level in Europe and to encourage the greater mobility of students and academic teachers. Well aware of the challenges and the role which higher education establishments must play in uniting Europe, the Scientific Committee of the Berlin Conference "The European Foreign Language Year, Berlin, 28-30 June 2001" launched an appeal for cooperation in the field of furthering and promotion of cross-cultural knowledge and skills and multilingualism to the authorities of European institutions and organisations. It called for the acceptance of the Berlin Declaration entitled "Language Education in Higher Education - A Crucial Element in the process of European Integration". The authors of the Declaration appeal to the authorities of European universities to take action to develop and implement a language policy for both didactic and research spheres as a well as a developmental strategy for the entire institution. So far, no document, clearly and explicitly formulating the assumptions for university language policy, has been drawn up at Warsaw University, the largest humanistic university in Poland, where about 10 thousand students undergo some form of foreign language instruction each year. Deklaracja Bolońska, podpisana w 1999 roku, przewiduje utworzenie do roku 2010 europejskiej przestrzeni szkolnictwa wyższego.

Badanie zgodności poziomu rozwoju demograficznego i gospodarczego Polski w ujęciu przestrzennym ; Consistence Between Levels of Demographic and Economic Development of Poland in the Year 1976 in Spatial Approach
The task that has been formulated in the article consists in showing some general regularities and tendencies in shaping the demographic and economic processes, determination of their mutual relationships and formulation — in outline — of causes of occured changes. A hypothesis has been accepted that the level of demographic development is conditioned by economic development. It's aimed then at obtaining bases to accept or reject a formulated hypothesis, on the ground of empirical research. The coefficient of concordance between levels of economic and demographic development has been used in the elaboration. The research concerns the data for the year 1976 by the voivodeships. Some conclusions appear as a result of the research. The population's development is governed by some specific rules. Obtained results do not confirm the preliminary accepted hypothesis. No concordance has been observed between economic and demographic development in voivodeships. It presumably results from the fact that changes in demographic processes are much more slower than changes in economic development, which can be steered in an undoubtedly easier way. ; Digitalizacja i deponowanie archiwalnych zeszytów RPEiS sfinansowane przez MNiSW w ramach realizacji umowy nr 541/P-DUN/2016

Europejska tożsamość Polaków. Przyczynek do określenia polskiej tożsamości narodowej w rok po wstąpieniu do Unii Europejskiej ; European identity of Poles. Contribution to defining Polish national identity a year after accession to the European Union
The subjectivity of human - being and the "J" consciousness have been the subject of reflection for many moralists, theologians, philosophers, psychologists and sociologists as well. One of the reasons of using the word "identity" in the political science language, among others, is its usefulness in many analyses of interactions among subjects of political life. The "national" identity plays a special role in this process. The determinants of identity are symbols, rules, and behaviour, which are a requisite of the sense of community. One year after the EU accession the author analyses some phenomena in Poland in the context of national feelings and their possible transformations in the direction of European society. Analysing the origins of Polish identity and its factors in a new geopolitical situation, the author estimates the essence and character of changes in the Polish society, and studies the possibility of changes in the Polish national consciousness - "a citizen of united Europe".

"To look darkness. To subside": From Micropoetics to Micropolitics and Back Again (On Method) ; "Patrzeć ciemności. Ubyć": od mikropoetyki do mikropolityki i z powrotem (o metodzie)
This essay undertakes an attempt to complete the "micrological" perspective of the Silesian school led by Aleksander Nawarecki with political impulses absent from its sources, guided by the intellectual constellations of two thinkers hitherto neglected as micrologists: Michel Foucault and Gilles Deleuze. Voicing opposition to the discipline and scientism of the close reading method, the essay proposes to consider the scholar in the categories of the micronaut, and the process of reading as immersion in the text, following minor tensions and flows of meanings. It simultaneously attempts a philosophical reading of the long poem Nie by Konrad Góra as a study in the methodology of seeing, (un)committed blindness and political multiplicity. ; Szkic podejmuje próbę uzupełnienia "mikrologicznej" perspektywy śląskiej szkoły Aleksandra Nawareckiego o nieobecne w niej źródłowo impulsy polityczne i patronat dwóch pominiętych dotąd "mikrologów": Michela Foucaulta i Gilles'a Deleuze'a.

An Unknown Episode from the Life of Marceli Chlamtacz, a Lwów-based Professor of Roman Law: A Few Words on the Election and Candidates for the Post of Secretary at the University of Lwów in the Academic Year 1894/95 ; Nieznany epizod z życia lwowskiego profesora prawa rzymskiego Marcelego Chlamtacza...
At the end of 1894, the University of Lwów announced a public competition for the position of the secretary of the university. A few months later the university received seven applications from young lawyers. As it turned out later the winner was Marceli Chlamtacz – a Roman law scholar, for whom it was one of the steps of his academic career. In the first part of the paper, I discussed, among others, circumstances of the elections and professional achievements of candidates until the time of elections. In the second one, were presented results of the elections and illustrated careers of competing lawyers that they had after 1895. Apart from M. Chlamtacz other persons famous in the later years applied for the position: Aleksander Doliński – professor of commercial law at Lwów's Jan Kazimierz University, co-author of the Polish Commercial Code; Tadeusz Bujak – judge of courts in Kraków, Vienna and Warsaw; Jan Wierzbowski – attorney and judge in Stanisławów, philanthropist and donor of the Lwów's Scientific Society; Jan Waygart – held a degree of doctor of law, specialist in military justice, Under-Secretary of State in the Ministry of Military Affairs; Jan Błeszyński – doctor of law at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, expert in the field of theater, literature and translations. The last one who applied for the above-mentioned position was widely unknown alumni of law Kazimierz Tychowski, a Ukrainian. W pierwszej części niniejszego artykułu omówiono m.in. okoliczności wyborów i osiągnięcia zawodowe kandydatów do czasu wyborów. W drugiej zaś przedstawiono wyniki wyborów i wspomniano o późniejszych karierach prawników, po 1895 r. Oprócz M. Chlamtacza ubiegali się o powyższe stanowisko tak znane w późniejszym okresie osobistości, jak: Aleksander Doliński – profesor prawa handlowego na Uniwersytecie Jana Kazimierza we Lwowie, współautor Kodeksu handlowego; Tadeusz Bujak – sędzia sądów w Krakowie, Wiedniu i Warszawie; Jan Wierzbowski – adwokat i sędzia w Stanisławowie, filantrop i darczyńca Lwowskiego Towarzystwa Naukowego; Jan Waygart – posiadał stopień doktora nauk prawnych, specjalista w sprawach wojskowych w dziedzinie wymiaru sprawiedliwości, podsekretarz stanu w Ministerstwie Spraw Wojskowych; Jan Błeszyński – doktor prawa Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego w Krakowie, ekspert w dziedzinie teatru, literatury i tłumaczeń.
