These are the grades for Xu Yingchao (徐英超), Hsu Ying-Chao (Class of 1937), for classes taken at Peiping National Normal University (now Beijing Normal University) in 1919. The document lists the courses, the hours each week, the length of the course, and his "standing". Some of the classes listed is History of Ethics, Hygiene, Military Science, and theories of Play. The document is signed by the registrar, the dean of the Department of Physical Education, and the president of the University. It is dated June 5, 1936. ; Xu Yingchao (徐英超), Hsu Ying-Chao (Class of 1937) as he was known when he attended Springfield College, was born in 1900 and died in 1986. He studied at Springfield College during 1936-1937. Xu got a Bachelors of Physical Education (B.P.E.) in the summer of 1937 and a Master's of Physical Education in the Spring of 1938. Xu was a pioneer in Chinese sports statistics and the first to introduce sports statistics courses to university classes.

嚴復為晚清介紹西學的先驅人物,但嚴氏並非只以翻譯西書為專門,亦致力於中西學術之調和,其會通中西學的貢獻在於使學界耳目一新,並使學人之援用西方理論有所依據,蓋晚清至民初數十年間學術思想之丕變,則嚴氏之影響實有其特殊的意義。本文欲經由嚴復《莊子評點》的義理思想,論述嚴氏中西會通的理念,再加以釐清其中西會通的學術價值。根本上,嚴氏之學雖以儒學為基礎,但大抵能兼採道、釋觀點並用以闡述西學之學說,其認為道家與儒、釋的義理實可與部份西學說法統一,故可知嚴氏並不囿於中西學的藩籬,取其可用之概念進行會通是為其鵠的。如其《莊子評點》乃結合《莊子》哲學、儒家的「易道」與西方哲學之「天演」、自然科學,欲架構一特殊的宇宙論,以至於演繹「道」化之下所派生的種種社會現象。故《莊子評點》非但是嚴氏闡述其經世致用的一大著作,亦是嚴氏調和中西哲學的一大發揮,而嚴氏最終的目的則在於雜糅《莊子》與西學「天演」的終極「道」說,進以成就一家之言。 ; Yan Fu was a pioneer figure in introducing Western learning in late Qing Dynasty. However, Yan not only specialized in translating Western books, but also endeavored to integrate Chinese and Western academic research. His contribution of a harmonious blend and a thorough grasp of Sino-Western studies resulted in making the academic circles undergo a pleasant change of atmosphere, thus enabling the scholars to have a basis in citing Western theories. Therefore, for the immense change of academic thought in the hundreds of years from the late Qing Dynasty to the early years of the Republic of China, Yan's influence actually had special meaning. This thesis would like to expound Yan's idea of a harmonious blend and a thorough grasp of Sino-Western studies from the argumentation and thought of Yan Fu's Comment on Zhuang Zi, and make clear his academic value of a harmonious blend and a thorough grasp of Sino-Western studies.Basically, although Yan's research took Confucianism as a foundation, generally speaking, he could adopt the viewpoints of Daoism and Buddhism, and use them to expound the theories of Western studies; he thought that the argumentations of Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism could be united with the partial theories and methods of Western learning; hence, we can know that Yan was not confined by the hedge between Sino studies and Western learning, and taking usable concepts to create a harmonious blend and a thorough grasp was his target. For example, his Comment on Zhuang Zi was to combine the philosophy of Zhuang Zi the Dao of Zhou Yi of Confucianism, and theory of "evolution" and natural science of Western philosophy, with the desire to construct a special cosmology, in order to deduce all kinds of social phenomena derived under the theory of "Dao." Therefore, Comment on Zhuang Zi was not only a great work of Yan's by expounding his statecraft, but also a great elaboration of Yan's integrating Chinese and Western philosophy, and Yan's final objective was to mix and blend Zhuang Zi and "evolution" of Western learning to create the ultimate theory of "Dao" so as to further expound his theory.

After World War II, an international military court sentenced 20 Nazi doctors and 3 collaborators with crimes against the humanity at the Nuremberg Trials. For the past 70 years after Nuremberg Trials, the restoration to pre-Nazi's ethical standard has been progressed. The eugenicist theories and the policies of racial hygiene were the fundamental axes of the Nazi euthanasia programs without paying attention to the basic ethics of the medicine. German psychiatry that it enjoyed an extraordinary international reputation, played a capital rôle in these programs and the mental patients supposed the main group of risk for these practices during the Nazi era. In this overview, we deal with, the historical perspective of the euthanasia programs of the mental patients, and the procedures for its execution, and the use of the mental patients as investigation tools. Direct consequence of the mentioned penal process gave birth to the Nuremberg Code, which has been considered as the fi rst international code of ethics for the medical experiments with human subjects. During the last 70 years, it has advanced substantially in the restoration of ethical codes and norms to protect patients in particular in the fi eld of psychiatry and psychopharmacology, and its culmination of advancement has been in the 1996 Declaration of Madrid.

The enactment of the FCPA and the formation of the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention created two historical events for theoretical analysis: because the FCPA unprecedentedly criminalized transnational bribery in 1977, its wisdom was initially questioned. Then, since the Convention endorsed the FCPA approach in 1997, academic focus was shifted to the practical effect of the Convention in controlling transnational bribery-—which is also the topic of this study. ; This study develops argument based on an awareness of the limitation of a popular methodology in current literature-—the problem-solving paradigm. This paradigm is grounded in the rational-choice tradition, assumes signatories' enforcement of the Convention as resulting from their self-serving purposes, labels the current level of Convention enforcement as "ineffective-enforcement", and borrows solutions from conventional collective action theories to prescribe. This paradigm well explains why most signatories have brought few enforcement actions. Yet its excessive commitment to orthodoxies prevents scholars from grasping the uniqueness of the collaboration and prescribing successful solutions. Besides, it avoids explaining why some signatories have indeed enforced the Convention. A historical approach that draws causality from a process's historicity is thus proposed as a supplementary methodology. ; This study analyzes signatories' compliance with the Convention by four steps: First, it explains a seemingly outdated but unexplained question—the dynamic of the institutionalization of the OECD anti-bribery collaboration, and finds that the central institutions did not result from signatories' trading off conflicting values and interests, but from their attempts to coordinate demands of different stakeholders within given institutional contexts. ; Second, this study explains why most signatories tend to defect rather than faithfully enforce the Convention, following the logic of the problem-solving paradigm: destabilizing factors in the indigenous collaboration ...
