The aim of this article is to discuss the problem of translating Polish prose, based on an analysis of a selection of samples taken from Czesław Miłosz's Native Realm. A Search for Self-Definition translated by Catherine S. Leach. The book documents specific relations between the Western and the Eastern Europe determined by historical provenance of the realms in question. The dichotomy of the collective European history has a profound influence on the reception of Polish literature among the Western audience. Native Realm showcases the issue perfectly – it is interesting in terms of its careful account of the historical and social development of the Continent. The perception of reality is conditioned by an inherent dissimilarity of experiences between the West and the East. The intention of Miłosz was to provide an analysis of them and produce an insightful book addressed specifically to the Western readership. My discussion is an attempt to prove that the endeavour is doomed to failure due to the intrinsic differences between the cultures involved, as cultural inheritance determines the interpretation of historical facts and prompts dissimilar connotations. In the case of Native Realm, on the one hand, we encounter Miłosz's vision/imagination that is irreversibly rooted in the Slavic way of looking at things and, on the other, the distinctively dissimilar Western vantage point. Translating these differences appears to be a major challenge for any translator. ; The aim of this article is to discuss the problem of translating Polish prose, based on an analysis of a selection of samples taken from Czesław Miłosz's Native Realm. Autor omawia przykłady aktualnego stanu kulturalno-literackiej współpracy narodu polskiego i uzbeckiego. ; The author discusses the examples of the current status of cultural and literary cooperation between the Polish and Uzbek nations. In his opinion, in the period of globalization, creative elites feel a need for a permanent dialogue and mutual links, between different states and on a global scale, as exemplified by Polish-Uzbekistani relations expressed in terms of translations of literature, among other things. The author emphasises that translating poetry calls for the translator's comprehensive general knowledge, encompassing also the awareness of the general cultural context.

In this paper I analyze the materialization and public debate over the "Polish Migration Policy – current stage and the recommended actions" document, and the parts regarding the integration of immigrants in particular. I apply a neoinstitutional theoretical framework which allows me to conceptualize the mechanisms of the Europeanization process, and show that the integration policy is mainly developed by imitating the instruments promoted by the European Commission. I study imitation by applying the notions of translation and editing. This allows me to understand how the imitated model is adapted in the local context. The non-governmental organizations which commented on the document perceived the European model as suited for imitation. The public debate over the "Migration Policy of Poland" contributed to further strengthening and adaptation of the imitated model. ; Mikołaj Pawlak

Social sciences, understood as critical and not neutral by nature, they should be equipped with specific competencies and sensivity. C. W. Mills these comptence define as sociological imagination - which is study of the relationship of history and biography, Giddens interpreted it as three basic senses: historical, anthropological, critical. The translation into political science would be a political theories imagination, it consist,, among over things like a: historicity of political phenomena, antisubstansialism, research self-awareness. Definition of political theories imagination I propose in the context of Wiktor Marzec's paper Rebelion and Reaction, which is a study from field of historical sociology, it's in itself a lot of inspiration for theorists of politics: research, theoretical and methodological. It is worth considering -in this context- fundamental categories of political science, like political subjectivity and the political, also revalidate in their range.
Artykuł recenzowany / peer-reviewed article ; The French Code de commerce was adopted in the Polish territories in 1809 and remained formally binding for over 120 years. It was nonetheless transferred from post-revolutionary France into a feudal reality, where no commercial code had been in place before, without the necessary preparatory works, implementation of the legislation accompanying the Code de commerce or even an offi cial translation. Moreover, legal scholars paid scarce attention to it in the first decades. Taken together, all these factors aff ected its application. Being a contribution to the complex study of the issue, the present publication examines selected notarial deeds documenting individual commercial transactions to show how the process of practical implementation of the norms of French Commercial Code developed in the Polish territories ; Francuski Code de commerce recypowany został na ziemiach polskich w 1809 r. i obowiązywał formalnie przez ponad 120 lat.
