; Since the outbreak of the civil war in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992, thousands of Bosnian citizens have had to take the path of exile to escape the fighting between the various Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian armed militias and the bombings, as well as the ethnic cleansing committed by the three warring parties. In terms of civilian casualties and destruction of infrastructure, this is the worst armed conflict on European soil since World War II. Moreover, despite the end of the fighting in 1995, the destruction of the Bosnian economy during these three years of civil war, the endemic corruption and the instability characterizing the political system born of the constitution imposed by the Dayton Accords forced many citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to leave their country of origin in search of better future opportunities abroad, causing a significant brain drain in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this thesis, we try to answer the following question: How does the concept of transnationalism manifest itself among Quebecers from Bosnia-Herzegovina and how it influences their integration into the host society as well as their representation of citizenship? In this case study, we answer this question with the help of seven semistructured interviews that took place during our ethnographic fieldwork in Quebec City in the winter of 2018. Indeed, upon their arrival on Quebec soil, these migrants from Bosnia-Herzegovina quickly integrated into the host society, while maintaining important economic, social, political and cultural ties with their country of origin. As a result, therefore, the creation of a mixed identity, both Quebecer and Bosnian, a mixed identity characterized by an emotional attachment felt as much towards the state of origin as the host state. Finally, we see that this maintenance of links that we could qualify as transnational has led several of these migrants to retain dual citizenship, both Canadian and Bosnian, with the advantages that this entails for transnational exchanges. These migrants having made the choice of dual citizenship, through the transnationalism that they practice, see Canadian and Bosnian citizenship not only as legal documents allowing them to maintain a privileged relationship with the state, but as proof of their attachment to these two nations.

This dissertation explores the links between transnational mobilities and experiences ofsubjectivation of Bulgarian Roma migrants whose daily life is both in Bulgaria andFrance. Reflection is conducted on the relationship between a population and nationstatesin different contexts, by observing the specific policy addressing these Romaperceived as inherently different and problematics. This work is based on a translocaland multi-scale ethnography to capture the linkages between micro and macro levels inthe construction of a public and political issue (the "Roma issue"), as in the experiencesof migrants. First, two specific policy measures put in place in a French locality wereobserved with a long term follow-up and analyzed in a historitical, political andethnographic approach. In addition, several families of Bulgarian Roma migrants livingin squats were followed in their transnational experiences. By putting in perspectivelocal policy towards these migrants, their relationship to State and their migrationdynamics, this thesis contributes both to political anthropology and anthropology ofmobility. In their daily life, these Roma manage to go beyond their enrolment inpolicies ranging from exclusion and assimilation in France as in Bulgaria: they play onthe geographic, social and identity boundaries in order to reinvent itself. Focusing onthe Roma as actors raises questions about their processes of subjectivation. The latterare understood as the ways in which subjects are "made" in action both on themselvesand others within relations of power and domination. This research therefore provides acontribution to the anthropology of the subject. International audience ; This paper analyses the relations between the transnational practices of migrants and their integration. This work draws on a study of development projects carried out in origin villages by North African Berber hometown organisations in France (Algerian Kabyles and Moroccan Chleuhs) and North Indian Panjabis in the UK. The migrants committed to development projects use their involvement in expatriated hometown organisations to give meaning to their migration and their identity of expatriated villagers. However, the efficacy of their commitment hinges upon their ability to find financial and technical resources and thereby upon their social, economic and political integration in host and sending societies.

Ever since the 2011 Tunisian Revolution, participation in the political process amongst the citizens of Tunisia has been characterized by a high degree of neophytism. Included amongst these new participants partaking in these newly available political rights are high levels of internationally based Tunisian transnational's. Our research is interested in the unprecedented politicization of Tunisians residing abroad away from Tunisia. Our interest focused on the construction of Tunisian political transnationalism, within a new contextual paradigm of the recent democratization of their country of origin. Our theoretical work as based upon the usage of various inter-disciplinary methods, which required the use of multi-methodological approaches for the necessary level of effective empirical investigation. To do this, we created an inventory of research on the evolution of transnationalism available both scientifically and institutionally. Utilizing the Questionnaire, we explored a sample of 300 voters from a distance of three agglomerations in the Rhône-Alpes region, differing in population size based upon the number of inhabitants residing within them. We were primarily interested in their motivations for participating in remote voting. We used the semi-directive interview method to be able to deeply understand the representations, attitudes and identities of a diverse group of interviewees. This included transnational activists, candidates, and deputies from abroad residing in France who originatedfrom the same mother country of Tunisia. This research has allowed us to notably observe, amongst other things, a form of liminality that is characteristic of the transitional situation experienced by Tunisian transnational's politically. This is specifically seen with regards to their passage from being disempowered politically to being individually empowered. Within the context of rapid political change in their country of origin, the political and electoral neophytism of many Tunisian transnational's isrepresentative of a politicization process still in the making.
