Strategic decision making is a major component of any management activity. Management decision is the choice of alternatives implemented in the framework of its vision and mission and aimed at achieving the goals of the organization. The paper introduces an explanatory method how to strategize decision making process based on the example of Cyprus-Turkish Airlines Company until its collapse in 2010. The management and external powers made a decision to stop operations that influenced on a total balance of aviation structure and image of the country. This paper tries to investigate what factors affected on decision making from a narrow author's perspective and to understand that decision making failures are getting costly. The literature review generates insights and focuses on the main factors that affect decision making and how these factors have a great impact and significance on decision makers and environment. These insights and the investigation of the effects of strategic decision making provide practical implications to the managers and offers effective decision outcomes which are crucial for such country as Northern Cyprus to enlarge its political and social existence on the global arena

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the correlation between the Twitter activity of two airline companies and their stock performance at the Istanbul Stock Exchange (BIST).
Design/methodology/approach
Overall, 113,018 tweets were divided into 34,152 semantic and 78,866 share tweets. Semantic tweets are tweets mentioning company's products or services and were labeled manually and with deep learning models. Share tweets were divided into 13,618 relevant and 65,248 irrelevant tweets.
Findings
A positive correlation was found between share tweets and stock performance. Semantic tweets did not display a correlation with stock performance. Relevant share tweets displayed as a strong correlation as all share tweets for one company. Also, the manual labeling of 8,000 tweets led to the discovery of many insights related to service provision in the airway industry, management of digital support channels, management of reputation on social media and using Twitter as a customer support platform.
Practical implications
Relevant share tweets comprise only 20% of all share tweets for one company and show the same level of correlation with stock performance. This means that the efficiency of business intelligence solutions created to monitor Twitter activity can be improved five times by saving computational power, network bandwidth and data storage.
Originality/value
Previous research has analyzed all Twitter activity taken together. By dividing tweets into semantic and share tweets, this paper illustrates that it is, in fact, share tweets that are correlated with stock performance and not semantic tweets.

This study mainly aims to examine the perception of Turkish Airlines Technic staff about the effect of proactive maintenance scheduling (PMS) on maintenance costs (MCs) and airline profitability (AP). Another purpose of the study is to reveal if the perception of the staff changes according to the demographic features and experience of the staff. As far as it is known, there is no direct study addressing the effects of PMS on MCs and airline profitability. The study is considered to be a first in this context. In the study, Turkish Airlines-THY was chosen as the company that was handled. The fact that the company has a separate special maintenance & repair group (Turkish Airlines Technic-THYT) was effective in the selection of this company. Some additional qualifications (very rooted, with corporate governance, Turkey's top largest & full-service carrier, member of IATA and Star Alliance, and a listed company (in BIST) were also among other factors affecting the selection. Methodologically, it was used a quantitative survey with a sample of 133 THYT staff. The staff has been chosen among departments that take place actively/directly in maintenance. Besides questions that aim to measure the perception of THYT staff on the effects of PMS on MCs and AP, some demographic and experience-related questions were asked in order to find out if the perception of the staff changes according to their qualifications. The data were collected by online survey method and analyzed with SPSS version 22. Necessary tests together with Chi-square and Fisher's tests were carried out to analyze the results. It was concluded that there is a strong correlation between PMS and the MCs. The study proved that PMS has a great decreasing effect on MCs and a great increasing effect on AP. The study also revealed that THYT personnel is like-minded and that PMS reduces MCs and increases AP as well.

Ms. Güliz Öztürk, Chief Commercial Officer at Pegasus Airlines, opened her speech, drawing attention to the development of the sector before she went on to discuss the current state of the Turkish aviation sector and future expectations. Öztürk stated that thanks to positive effects of the legislative changes in the 2000s, airlines such as Pegasus Airlines are now able to introduce new business models to the Turkish aviation industry. "This has resulted an increase in the total number of passengers carried in Turkey from 30 million in 2003 to an astonishing 133 million in just 11 years", remarked Öztürk.

; This thesis research aims to put a clear understanding on strategic decisions and activities of Turkish Airlines as a part of the public diplomacy, in other words, soft power. Since the 1980s, Turkish Airlines made an important contribution to Turkish foreign policy. The company has often been used as a tool of public diplomacy. This situation increased significantly after the declaration of the Africa Opening Policy. The objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between economic and political decisions made by Turkish authorities and the private sector and the strategic decisions of Turkish Airlines. For this purpose, an analysis of data considering 9 countries which are Colombia, Latvia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Cameroon, Mali, Madagascar, Chad and Ghana, is conducted to figure out whether there is such a relationship. The findings suggest that, there is a positive correlation between traffic numbers and foreign trade. However, a significant result can be obtained by adding revenue per flight, detailed passenger number and increase in the sample countries. Both values, traffic numbers and export level increased significantly after the opening of the embassy in the chosen countries, these actions were supported by other means of soft power such as TIKA and DEIK.

This study investigates the impacts of socio-political events on the operational performance of the Turkish Airlines, by referring to the firm-specific factors i.e. available seat kilometers (ASK), revenue per kilometer (RPK), passenger load factor (PLF) and passenger carried (PC) over the period of 2010M1-2018M12. To conduct the study, we selected four critical events among many others that had a serious impact on the Turkish socio-political environment. These events, by chronological orders, are; Gezi Park, the shooting of the Russian military jet, the attempted military coup and electronic devices ban. To detect the outlier impact, we run four different outlier algorithms, namely outlier detection algorithm (ODA), breakout detection algorithm (BDA), change-point algorithm (CPA) and causal impact analysis on a regional basis. The findings suggest that the socio-political crises have changing impacts on the operational performance of the Turkish Airlines regionally. CPA successfully detected the Gezi Park in domestic, Africa and North America regions for RPK and in domestic, Europe, Far East, and North America regions for ASK. ODA detected an outlier impact in Africa and North America for RPK and ASK for the shooting of the Russian military jet. ODA had an outlier impact in Europe, the Middle East, and North America regions for the attempted military coup. Finally, for the electronic devices ban while ODA successfully detects an outlier effect in domestic, North and South America regions, CPA reveals an impact in Africa, Far East, and South America for RPK. The impact of the crises in PLF has been less visible. These findings show that although the crises had an immediate effect on the operational performance, Turkish Airlines recovered from each crisis very promptly. This proves the resilience and agile management ability of the company.
