Cuban Americans will likely be one of the key social actors in the reconstruction of the Cuban economy ater the restoration of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States. They are already sending large sums of money, purchasing goods, transferring technology, and consuming services in the private sector of the Cuban economy. The role of Cuban-American remittances could be even more significant in the near future as sources of funding for independent business growth on the Island. However, in order to maximize the potential contribution of Cuban Americans to the Cuban economy, substantial changes in the laws and regulations established by both the Cuban and U.S. governments are necessary.

The relationship between the United States and Cuba is unique because of the complicated history of foreign relations and Cubas specific characteristics. When it comes to politics, foreign policy is very important. The foreign policy between U.S. and Cuba has been very complex because of the policy of isolation that has been shaping the relationship between the two countries. Isolationism is the policy of remaining apart from the affairs of other countries. The United States designed this policy to take a stand against communism and motivate a country to turn to more democratic ways, thus the U.S. would keep itself distanced from the country and have a very limited relationship with them. This type of restrictive relationship with Cuba has been in place for the past 50+ years, with the exception of the Obama administration attempting to make changes (US-Cuba Relations). As President of the US, Joe Biden must evaluate the current policy to assess whether it is accomplishing the American goals of foreign policy.

This book examines United State foreign policy toward Cuba, focusing on critical junctures and key strategic shifts. It argues that the recent restoration of diplomatic relations marks a fundamental departure as the two countries chart a new course into the twenty-first century.
"Drawing on simulation exercises involving role playing and extensive debates, explores how major developments within or outside Cuba might open opportunities for the U.S. to reengage with the island nation and support Cuban actors in initiating change from within, and reveals specific challenges to crafting a new U.S. approach"--Provided by publisher

"The evolution of the relationship between Cuba and the United States is much more complicated from the Cuban perspective than it is made to appear in mainstream media and political thinking. In this book, Arnold August highlights critical views from Cuba that are generally unfamiliar to non-Cubans. August outlines and analyzes current interactions and the future perspectives between the two neighbours. Included with August's careful analysis are interviews with five of Cuba's leading intellectuals on the subject of Cuba-U.S. relations, providing readers with a unique look into today's dynamic and complex relationship between these two countries."--
