This article considers, initially, the mobility of doctors throughout the world from a bibliographic database collection and identifies the lack of information regarding Brazilian doctors. The aim is to analyze aspects that determine the emigration of Brazilian doctors to the United States of America. The methodology is based on bibliographic research using the keywords brain drain, medical migration, physicians migration, data migration physicians; identification of articles related to the emigration of doctors throughout the world; elaboration and validation of the questionnaire "Emigration Motives"; identification of doctors that emigrated, using the "snowball" technique; sending of the questionnaire by e-mail to the doctors that emigrated to the USA; tabulation of the forwarded answers; Skype interviews aiming at the validation and illustration of the results obtained in the questionnaire. Initially, the doctors choose to emigrate for personal motives (family, professional opportunities, and, in general, absence of language barriers); when established in the USA, they experience a new way of life that makes them stay (better work condition, quality of life, family and general opportunities); external motives become the cause for staying in the USA (insecurity, professional, political and economic scenarios). The conclusion is that an emigrational process of Brazilian doctors to the USA exists and, at first, the reason to emigrate is not well defined; salary is not mentioned as a primary reason; the presence of the family eases the stay in the country; the proficiency in the English language is fundamental and necessary to restart the professional life as a recently graduated in medicine since there isn't an university degree or medical specialty degree validation.

Can the history of higher education help us understand the causes behind philosophical controversies and the processes of intellectual change by which old intellectual styles are replaced by new ones? In this article, I relate the emergence of post-analytic philosophy in the United States in the 1970s to the reforms and resulting expansion of higher education in the second half of the 20th century, which affected philosophy as an academic discipline and as a profession. Taking as my point of departure Richard Rorty's reflection on the state of the discipline in the early 1980s, I show how his diagnosis of disciplinary crisis, stated in the form of a philosophical critique of analytic philosophy's theoretical and methodological assumptions, are the outcome of a longer and broader process of transformation of the institutional bases of the professional philosophical life in the United States.

Analysis of the current political and economical context in the U.S.A., which involves access to and utilization of health services by immigrants, concerns more than 20 million foreign individuals who live in the country and do not have health insurance. This population corresponds to 43.8% of the 46 million people that do not have private health coverage in the U.S.A.; of these, 10.5 million do not have the legal documentation required to live in the country. In order to explore the needs, access and utilization of American health services by emigrants from Governador Valadares (located in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil), fourteen emigrants from this city were selected by means of the snowball technique and were interviewed for this study. Questions concerning interviewees' documentation, place of residence, jobs, needs, access to and use of health services were created. Information collected from emigrants residing in the states of Massachusetts and Connecticut allows us to assert the viability of access and utilization of health services subsidized by the federal and state governments and nongovernmental organizations.

Objective: This article analyzes the context and motivations that underlie the subsidies for editorial projects of the Office of the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs in the 1940s to find intersections with the programs financed by the Rockefeller Foundation since the 1930s, particularly the ones coordinated by the American Library Association. Methodology: A comparative analysis of the primary sources that can be found in these institutions was completed: National Archives and Records Administration II; Rockefeller Foundation; American Library Association; and American Council of Learned Societies. Originality: The article focuses on the us actions targeted at showing their superiority and neutralizing "the subversive activities" and "anti-Americanism" in the American continent using books, one of the cultural products still little explored in the historiography of the so-called Good Neighbor Policy. Conclusions: The analysis demonstrates that the growing distribution of books was conveniently used as a strategy for a wider ideological influence in the target countries besides battling against subversive activities and anti-Americanism in the 1940s.
