Bis vor wenigen Jahren war die chinesische Automobilindustrie klein und rückständig. Heute wird sie als "Motor der globalen Automobilindustrie" bezeichnet. Welche Entwicklung hat stattgefunden, die es der chinesischen Automobilindustrie innerhalb weniger Jahre ermöglichte, international wettbewerbsfähige Zulieferer hervorzubringen? Nutzen diese lediglich Niedriglohn-Vorteile, um preiswerte Autoteile von geringer Qualität herzustellen? Wird der chinesische Automobilmarkt langfristig von westlichen Unternehmen dominiert, die ebenfalls diese Vorteile nutzen? Oder werden den chinesischen Unternehmen eigenständiger Erfolg und Auslandsexpansion gelingen? In dieser Arbeit werden die strukturellen Veränderungen der chinesischen Automobilzulieferindustrie und ihre Ursachen untersucht. Die Autorin stellt fest, dass die chinesische Regierung trotz wirtschaftlicher Öffnungspolitik zahlreiche industriepolitische Maßnahmen einsetzt, um den Technologietransfer von ausländischen Unternehmen zu maximieren. Diese Schutzmaßnahmen verlangsamen jedoch Konsolidierung und Modernisierung der Industrie. Das Buch richtet sich an Entscheidungsträger der Automobil- und Automobilzulieferindustrien.
