La presente tesi si concentra sul romanzo popolare irlandese scritto da donne, nel periodo compreso tra il 1798 e il 1921. Quattro sono le autrici prese in considerazione: Charlotte Elizabeth Tonna, Sydney Owenson (meglio conosciuta come Lady Morgan), Edith Somerville e Katharine Tynan, le cui vite e opere coprono un periodo storico fondamentale per l'uscita dell'Irlanda dal dominio coloniale britannico e la formazione della nazione irlandese nel sud del paese. L'interesse principale è quello di analizzare il modo in cui nei loro testi prende forma la nazione, e in particolare attraverso quali immagini e riferimenti religiosi. Il senso è quello, dunque, di rileggere tali testi prestando maggiore attenzione alla religione, uno dei principali collanti tra autrici e pubblico: all'epoca in cui l'Irlanda stava acquisendo i confini che oggi ancora mantiene, esisteva un terreno d'incontro tra discorso politico e letterario, quello della nazione, e tale terreno veniva attraversato anche dal messaggio religioso. Il fine ultimo è quello di dimostrare che la letteratura popolare non è "seconda" ad altre quanto a valori che è in grado di trasmettere e a messaggi che è in grado di veicolare: trascurarla significa non capire i meccanismi attraverso i quali una società si sviluppa e si modifica. ; This research is focused on the Irish popular novel written by women between 1798 and 1921, respectively the year of the Irish Rebellion and that of the Anglo-Irish Treaty, recognizing the Irish Free State as a co-equal dominion of the British Empire. The authors analysed are Charlotte Elizabeth Tonna, Sydney Owenson (better known as Lady Morgan), Edith Somerville and Katharine Tynan, whose lives and works cover a fundamental period in Irish history, inaugurating the withdrawal of Britain from Ireland after eight hundred years, and the formation of an Independent Ireland in the south of the country. The main interest has been in analyzing the way these four writers write the nation, and through which religious images and references. The attempt is to reread their novels paying particular attention to religion, one of the main tie between author and readers: at the time when Ireland was acquiring the borders today still possess, there existed a common field, that of nation, on which convened politics, literature and religion. The aim is to show that popular literature is not secondary to any other narrative for the values and messages it conveys: to ignore it would mean to pay no heed to the devices through which society develops and changes.

The book edited by Katrina Hutchison e Fiona Jenkins, Women in Philosophy. What Needs to Change? (2013), aims at examining the following questions: why there are few women philosophers and what are the causes of this gender disparity in philosophy? Are there reasons, beyond those strictly ethical and political, for promoting women's participation in philosophy? To answer these questions, the articles collected in the book show how gender gap is linked to some philosophical and methodological practices that make this discipline particularly inhospitable to women. ; Il libro curato da Katrina Hutchison e Fiona Jenkins, Women in Philosophy. What Needs to Change? (2013), si propone di esaminare le seguenti questioni: perché ci sono poche donne filosofe e quale è la causa della scarsa presenza femminile nei dipartimenti di filosofia? Vi sono delle ragioni, oltre a quelle strettamente etiche e politiche, per promuovere una maggiore partecipazione femminile in filosofia? Per dare una risposta a queste domande, gli articoli raccolti nel volume mostrano come il gender gap sia connesso a certe pratiche e a metodologie filosofiche che rendono questo settore del sapere particolarmente inospitale alle donne.

L'articolo intende ricostruire i principali momenti della militanza antifascista femminile in Tunisia. Il lavoro inizia ripercorrendo brevemente la storia della comunità italiana in Tunisia e la nascita del movimento antifascista, ma pone l'accento sulla militanza femminile nel movimento. Delle militanti conoscevamo solo alcune donne borghesi che hanno lasciato traccia del loro operato attraverso la pubblicazione di biografie. Grazie alla consultazione del fondo del Casellario Politico presso l'Archivio Centrale di Stato, sono emersi i fascicoli di diciassette donne italiane impegnate nella lotta al fascismo in Tunisia, donne delle quali non avevamo alcuna notizia. Integrando le informazioni tratte dalle biografie con quelle ricavate dai fascicoli dell'Archivio di Stato, è stato possibile ricostruire a tutto campo l'attività antifascista femminile. ; This article aims at illustrating the keys stages of the anti-fascist militant movement carried by women in Tunisia. The work begins recreating briefly the history of the italian communities in Tunisia and the birth of the anti-fascist movement, underlining the importance of women's involvement. Little is known about those activists, whose traces could only been found in published biographies. Moreover, dossiers regarding seventeen italian women, actively involved in the anti-fascist conflict, could also be found consulting the Central Archives of the State. Combining information taken from the biographies and the dossiers, a bigger picture of the women's anti-fascist activism could finally be traced.

The essay shows a teaching Unit about the theme of women's work, through the study of two industrial realities: the Tabacco Factory and the Cotton Factory. The key points of the lessons are the legal condition of women, established by the Pisanelli's Code (1865), the economic, social and cultural conditions of the workers, and the drafting of protection legislations of female workers: these themes are dealt in the wider context of the first Italian feminism and the Socialist movement. An important moment of the didactic activity is the visit to "History's places", during which students come into direct contact with the urban places where people have lived and where the events have been. After that, there is a proposal of some documents about the discussion regarding the protection of women workers. Lastly, some activities about "Civic Education" are recommended and are provided some possible interdisciplinary paths. ; Il saggio illustra un'Unità didattica sul tema del lavoro femminile attraverso lo studio di due realtà industriali: la Manifattura tabacchi e il Cotonificio di Venezia. Le direttrici fondamentali delle lezioni sono la condizione giuridica delle donne sancita dal Codice Pisanelli (1865), le condizioni economiche, sociali e culturali delle operaie e la redazione delle leggi di tutela delle lavoratrici; questi temi vengono trattati nel contesto più ampio dello sviluppo del primo Femminismo italiano e del movimento Socialista. Un momento centrale dell'attività didattica è costituito da una visita sui "Luoghi della storia", nel corso della quale gli studenti entrano in contatto diretto con gli spazi urbani in cui sono vissute le persone e si sono svolti gli avvenimenti. Segue una proposta di lettura di documenti intorno al dibattito sulla tutela delle donne lavoratrici. Infine, vengono suggerite alcune attività di Cittadinanza e Costituzione e vengono indicati alcuni possibili percorsi interdisciplinari.

Nei primi anni dopo la rivoluzione d'ottobre, il governo bolscevico si imbarcò in un ambizioso programma di radicale trasformazione sociale che andava ben al di là dei tradizionali ambiti di lotta politica. Anche l'alimentazione dei cittadini, un'attività apparentemente poco significativa dal punto di vista politico, divenne parte del programma bolscevico per costruire una società nuova. È impossibile parlare dello sviluppo della cultura culinaria e del sistema di ristorazione collettiva sovietici senza considerare la condizione femminile dell'epoca: pur essendoci una retorica rivoluzionaria rispetto all'emancipazione della donna dalla schiavitù delle faccende domestiche, le condizioni sociali dell'epoca contribuivano a rafforzare il ruolo tradizionale delle donne di mogli e madri. In questo articolo vengono analizzate le ragioni che mossero la politica di emancipazione e i risultati che ne conseguirono. ; After the October Revolution, the Bolshevik government introduced an ambitious programme aimed at a radical change of society, going well beyond traditional political fighting. Even a matter of apparently low political interest such as alimentation became part of their programme intending to build this new society. Discussing the development of Soviet culinary culture and public food service is impossible without analysing the condition of women. Over the years, an attempt at liberating women from the burden of domestic labour was made. This paper analyses the reasons behind the Soviet women emancipation policy and its outcomes.

Starting from women's experiences, in particular those of the prophets and nuns Domenica Narducci da Paradiso (1473-1553) e Paola Antonia Negri (1508-1555), the essay discusses the historical problem of Christian reform in early fifteenth century Italy. Drawing on the methodology of modern history and history of concepts and referring to the analyses of the hagiographic tale, of the relationship with political power, of reform ideas and of the representation of individuality, the essay aims to contribute to the debate on women and Reformation/reform. ; A partire dall'esperienza delle donne, e in particolare delle figure delle profetesse Domenica Narducci da Paradiso (1473-1553) e Paola Antonia Negri (1508-1555), il saggio discute il problema storico della riforma cristiana nell'Italia del primo Cinquecento. Attingendo alla metodologia della storia moderna e della storia dei concetti e facendo riferimento all'analisi del racconto agiografico, del rapporto con il potere politico, delle idee di riforma e della rappresentazione dell'individualità, il saggio intende contribuire al dibattito sul ruolo delle donne nella Riforma protestante/riforma cristiana.

During the Francoist period in Spain a particular female organization was created, as a military section among the young formations of the Falange: this was the so called Female Section, an auxiliary corps with many and quite different social welfare duties. Nevertheless, among them, that one of formation was always intended as the preeminent one: formation as mereinstruction, particularly the alphabetization of a female population which was mainly illiterate (moreover in the extra-urban areas), but also a formation for women of every age, in order to obey to the principles of the dictatorship sorted after the Civil War (September 1936-november 1938). The idea was that of preparing women for an absolute homely life, intended in every sense, ethic, cultural and psycophysic ways. So the main mission entrustedto the F.S. was to prepare Spanish woman to her function as a subordinate person, just like the new political system required, with the whole ardent approval of religious authorities. Such conditions lasted until Franco's death, in the second half of last century's Seventies. ; Durante il periodo franchista fu creata in Spagna una speciale organizzazione femminile, intesa come sezione militare inserita presso le giovani formazioni della Falange: si trattava della cosiddetta "Sezione Femminile", un corpo ausiliario con molti e differenti compiti di assistenza sociale. Nonostante tale ampiezza di obiettivi, quello della formazione fu sempre considerato quello preminente: formazione come mera istruzione, in particolar modol'alfabetizzazione di una popolazione femminile prevalentemente illetterata (soprattutto nelle aree extra-urbane), ma anche una formazione pensata per le donne di ogni età, affinché obbedissero ai principi dittatoriali emersi dopo la Guerra Civile (Settembre 1936 – Novembre 1938). Il trasferimento in Occidente di reliquie provenienti dai principati latini d'Oriente nel XII secolo fu spesso utilizzato come strategia politico-religiosa nel sostegno al movimento e agli stati crociati. Il ruolo svolto dalle donne laiche o religiose in questo campo presenta connotazioni specifiche, dovute alla realtà multiculturale di Outremer, che rimandano sia ai modelli bizantini di trasmissione ereditaria delle reliquie sia a innovative strategie di legittimazione del potere femminile in un contesto politico molto delicato (in particolare per l'invio di reliquie della Vera Croce). Tra i casi analizzati spicca quello delle badesse del monastero di Santa Maria la Grande di Gerusalemme, la cui autorità di custodi del santuario gerosolimitano e di garanti dell'auten- ticità delle reliquie inviate consentiva un ampio margine di autonomia nella gestione del sacro. ; During the twelfth century the translation of relics from the Crusader states to the West was often used as a religious and political strategy to disseminate the crusading ideas and support the Latin East. Noble and religious women played a special role in this phenomenon, which deserves to be studied. Thanks to the cross-cultural background of the Latin East, women were able to re-use previous Byzantine patterns of relic translation and new strategies to legitimize their power in a difficult political situation (especially for translating relics of the True Cross). One of the best examples involved the abbesses of Saint Mary Maior of Jerusalem, whose au- thority as guardians of the holy shrine allowed them to guarantee the authenticity of the relics they sent in the West, thus gaining considerable independence in managing sacred items.

This article provides a brief presentation of domestic violence and of the related Daphne III European research project (2007-2013, JLS/2008/CFP/DAP/2008-1): «An indirect harmful effect of violence: Victimizing the child and Re-victimizing the woman-mother through her child's exposure to violence against herself.Sensitizing and creating awareness through research-product material, both transnational and differential according to the partner-context.» The study compares children exposed to the abuse of their mothers by her partner (experimental sample; n 40) to those who had not (control sample; n 40), in order to see whether the former are more likely either to make use of violenceor to be more tolerant about that. It is also considered whether their mothers appear to them as a negative model role. Children's self-perception was also examined by measuring global self-worth and by making use five subscales (scholastic competence, social acceptance, athletic competence, physical appearance, behavioural conduct). Questionnaires were administered in schools to children aged 9-11 and their teachers. Part of the Italian results is reported.There exists the need to increase teachers' awareness about the repercussions that witnessing domestic violence has on children. Comparative analysis of the representation of women in national parliaments around the world. Summary in English.

La ricerca indaga la presenza e l'opera di scrittrici italiane minori e poco visibili nel canone della scrittura educativo-letteraria fra Otto e Novecento, con una produzione editoriale letteraria rivolta alle scuole o ad un pubblico prevalentemente femminile. Essa si articola in tre parti, più una sezione introduttiva, in cui vengono analizzati i dati relativi a un campione di 277 autrici (definite scolastiche, non scolastiche, miste) preso come significativo di una realtà diffusa a livello nazionale. Nella prima parte della ricerca, dal titolo "Le idee", si evidenziano le diverse posizioni teoriche di alcune docenti all'interno della "questione femminile" nel corso dell'Ottocento, seguendo l'evoluzione delle teorie dell'educazione femminile che procedono di pari passo con il dibattito per l'allargamento dei diritti civili alle donne, e che ha il suo punto di maggiore avanzamento nel Congresso Nazionale delle Donne di Roma del 1908. Nella seconda parte, "I testi", vengono esaminati alcuni manuali scolastici (come quelli di Colombini, Pozzoli, Morandi, Vertua, Baccini), dal punto di vista letterario e di pratiche paratestuali, fra cui le dediche, che valorizzano genealogie femminili. Nella terza parte, "Le reti", si analizzano tre esempi di progettazione e coordinamento di opere femminili in rete (da Gualberta Beccari, Emma Tettoni, Emma Boghen Conigliani). La metodologia gender sensitive ha seguito un percorso indiziario, volto al reperimento di documenti, come lettere, opuscoli, conferenze, discorsi, recite scolastiche, saggi letterari poiché, secondo le indicazioni delle Annales (Aries, Duby, Lett, Ginzburg), riprese dalla storiografia dell'educazione, è importante partire nella ricerca proprio dalle micronarrazioni, dalle microstorie, dall'irrompere del quotidiano e delle vite ordinarie femminili nella grande storia politica, come in una black box of schooling, con una motivazione etica e democratica, mirata a uno spostamento di sguardo sulle dimensioni territoriali, locali, sulle omissioni e sulla rilevanza delle fonti e delle testimonianze private nella grande storia e nella storia sociale. ; This research focuses the presence and work of minor Italian women writers in the canon of literary-educational writing between the 19th and the 20th centuries, whose publications were meant for schools or for a female readership. Our study is divided into three parts, plus an introductory section in which the data relative to a sample of 227 women authors is analyzed. The writers are defined as educational, non- educational and mixed, and the sample is taken as representative of the wider national reality. In the first part, entitled "Ideas", we follow the theoretical positions about the "Woman Question" during the 19th century, as well the theories of female education, whose moment of greatest progress was The Congresso Nazionale delle Donne in Rome in 1908. In the second part, "Texts", famous schoolbooks (Colombini's, Pozzoli's, Morandi's, Vertua's, Baccini's one), are examinated in order from literary standpoint and para-textual practices, such as dedications, which highlight female historical or literary genealogies. In the third part, entitled "Networks", attention is given to three examples of networking, those projects and coordination of works were achieved by women (Gualberta Beccari, Emma Tettoni, Emma Boghen Conigliani). The gender sensitive methodology has followed a trail of clues aimed at locating documents such as letters, pamphlets, lectures and speeches, school recitals and literary essays since, according to the indications of the Annales (Aries, Duby, Lett, Ginzburg), influential in the historiography of education, it is important for research to start from micro-narrations, micro-stories, from when the everyday ordinary lives of women break into political history at large, as in a black box of schooling, with an ethical and democratic intent aimed at redirecting our attention to the local and territorial dimensions, to omissions and to the importance of private sources and testimonies in political and in social history.

Il contributo analizza alcuni cicli profani, oggi solo parzialmente esistenti, di Uomini e Donne illustri dell'antichità, commissionati a metà Quattrocento nell'Italia centro-settentrionale da grandi capitani che furono, in alcuni casi, anche signori di territori e città. Si approfondisce, specificatamente, il contesto politico, sociale e culturale di città quali Perugia, Milano e Camerino, evidenziando il legame esistente fra le corti ivi presenti e fornendo nuovi contributi in merito ai programmi pittorici, alle fonti letterarie, al significato ideologico e politico, al successo iconografico. Nella ricostruzione del perduto grande ruolo ha avuto la consultazione delle testimonianze manoscritte e lo spoglio del materiale archivistico, fondamentale per una storia dell'arte che valuti consapevolmente la quantità e il significato delle assenze.The paper analyses some profane cycles, today only partially existing, of illustrious Men and Women of the antiquity, commissioned in the mid-15th century in central-northern Italy by great captains who were, in some cases, also lords of territories and cities. In particular, the political, social and cultural context of cities such as Perugia, Milan and Camerino is explored, highlighting the links between the courts present there, and providing new contributions on pictorial programmes, literary sources, ideological and political significance, and iconographic success. In the reconstruction of the lost, a great role has been played by the consultation of manuscript testimonies and the perusal of archival material, fundamental for an art history that consciously evaluates the quantity and significance of absences.
