; This article represents an overview of the developments in the contemporary Ukrainian womens movement and in womens and gender studies from the perspective of changing public attitudes towards the notion of feminism which has been discredited in Soviet times. It identifies four stages and examines major issues in the process of institutionalizing of feminism and feminist research in the Ukrainian academia. The author traces the progress of feminist activism in Ukraine from mater- nalist and traditionalist women's initiatives in the early 1990s up to radical anarchist womens groups in the 2010s. Peculiarities of interactions between womens NGOs and state institutions are explored against the backdrop of changes in the Ukrainian legislation on gender equality.

The article is devoted to the critical review of representation of visual women's images in Ukrainian printed posters of the period of the 1940–1980s, when a woman's social role in the Soviet society was conditioned by specific ideological requirements. Ukrainian printed posters distinctively and immediately created a legitimate example of a perfect "socially beneficial" Soviet woman. Although in different social political moments of the country's history meaningful accents shifted toward current events. Thus, during the World War II in the compositional space center there were placed three women's figures representing the wide-scale heroism of female workers, female combats and female peasants. On Ukrainian posters of the 1970s women were depicted joyful and happy, which had an ideological implicative denoting a visual demonstration of Soviet people life improvement. Still women always had secondary positions in the compositions also depicting men, which secured a non-priority role for women in the Soviet social hierarchy.

; The article analyzes the studies of individual figures of the public-pedagogical movement of the second half of the XIX – the beginning of the XX century on the "women's issue". The aim of the article is to analyze the views of the representatives of the pedagogical thought of the studied period in the context of relation of women's education with the needs of social development. Methods of research: general scientific methods: theoretical analysis, generalization, comparison – have been used to make the conclusions; specific scientific methods: personologic-biographical method, textual and retrospective analysis have allowed to analyze literary sources on the research problem. The study of the works of some representatives of the pedagogical thought of the second half of the XIX – the beginning of the XX century (Kh. Alchevska, P. Hrabovskyi, M. Dobroliubov, M. Zinchenko, M. Pirohov, S. Rusova, K. Shchepkina) proved the urgency of the issue of reforming women's education, which, in their opinion, did not meet the demands of society for democratic and liberal transformations in the state. Unlike the Western European understanding of the problem of "women's issues" (struggle for provision of women's political and civil rights), in the Russian Empire, the possibility of its solution was seen in the need to reform the system of women's education (creation of education institutions for women of all social statuses, the right of women to equal education with men, opening access to higher education, etc.). The progressive part of the intelligentsia of the second half of the XIX – the beginning of the XX century advocated the change in the social status of women. Representatives of public-pedagogical thought believed that a woman could be not only a mother, wife, housewife, she was able to self-fulfillment in other social sectors, for which she also needed decent education. For further study deserves journalistic work on the problem of female representatives with a possible comparative characteristic of the regions of Ukraine, which during the investigated period were part of the Russian and Austro-Hungarian empires.

Among the most significant were: unsatisfactory organization of school education for girls within the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which were found to be lacking in popular schools, in particular, girls' longevity, low attendance, limited co-ordination; the level of educational process in the existing state women's elementary schools is lower than in males, and their predominantly anti-Ukrainian character; the official limitation of women's secondary and higher education; the absence of Ukrainian institutions for vocational education of women's youth, and the anti-Ukrainian nature of pre-school and out-of-school education in the province. It is proved that certain preconditions became the basis for forming the main directions of pedagogical activity, which concerned, first of all, the participation of women-ukrainians in the development of the network of Ukrainian private women's elementary schools, out-of-school and preschool educational institutions.Participation of Ukrainian women in the establishment of the system of national schooling in the region served as confirmation of the evolutionary processes in the women's movement, which went from separate educational measures among its members to active systematic pedagogical and educational work in the broad masses of the population. It was noted that the Ukrainian women's movement in Galicia during the period under study expressed the actual pedagogical problems that were in sight of the entire Galician community: the preservation of the physical, spiritual and moral health of the Ukrainian people in the absence of their own state and the training of younger generations to participate in the revival and reconstruction of independent Ukraine.Acknowledgments. The qualification work analyzed the specifics of the role of women in Soviet society in terms of official discourse, namely normative and normalizing power judgments. To this end, the legislative acts regulating the labor, political, marriage and family spheres of life of the citizens of the USSR were studied. In addition, the tendencies of normalization of the role of the "Soviet woman" in the periodical press are singled out. Together, this provided an opportunity to generalize the issues of formation, implementation and representation of women in the discourse of the Soviet Union.

In the article it is described preliminary conclusions on the basis of the project «In Memory of Lesya Kyzyk Research Project in Oral History: Ukrainian Women in the Military Conflict in Eastern Ukraine» (2014-2016). The emphasis is on women's participation in the war in the East of Ukraine. The project was implemented within the framework of women's oral historiographical studies. There were made efforts to analyze the «autobiographical memory» of women who were in the zone of armed conflict. The discovery of motivational factors in the involvement of women in armed conflict in the East of Ukraine was an important aspect of the study. The author analyzes the various groups of women participating in the modern Ukrainian-Russian war. Conditions of women staying on the front are considered. Particular attention is paid to the issue of literary creativity of women in the area of military action. Women's memories often reproduce the circumstances and details of wartime everyday life. Equally interesting are the stories of women about food, material problems on the front line. None of the women mention malnutrition in ATO due to the help of volunteers. However, they recall a monotonous diet, which leads to overweight. Often, women soldiers tell about the help of volunteers with women's hygiene products, clothing and other material things needed for them at the front. We note the change in the values of women in the peaceful area and in the zone of armed conflict. Trust, mutual help, solidarity, coherence of the group become important on the front line. The paper presents a complete analysis of the development of women's secondary vocational education in Western Ukrainian lands from the end of the 19-th to the beginning of the 20-th centuries. On the basis of a thorough analysis of legislative and normative educational documents of the period under investigation, the main stages and tendencies of teachers' training educational establishments are set out. The role of the state and private public aspects, religious organizations (first of all Roman and Greek catholic nuns' associations of the sisters of St. Basil and Benedict) and some pedagogues in the organization of women's secondary vocational education in Galicia, Northern Bukovina and Transcarpathia is established. It is argued that the first and most famous state teachers' training institutions for girls were founded by the nun's association of the sisters of St. Benedict in 1871 in Lviv and Peremishl' (Galicia); in Chernivtsy(1872) on the basis of the pedagogical institution for men (Northern Bukovina); by the local clergy and intelligentsia in Uzhgorod (1902) (Transcarpatia). It is shown that the organization and content of educational procedures in the women's vocational institutions, as well as their foundation and development, are regulated by the state, regional and land legislative and normative acts. On the territories of the Austrian and Hungarian state they were equal for all the lands of the Empire, possessed almost the same amount of subjects and school-hours for their study, with the same applying to the language of education and its domination (in Galicia – Polish, Transcarpatia – Hungarian, Bukovina – Rumania), more vivid presence of "female" subjects (women's handicraft, household, hygiene). It is investigated that the teachers' training establishments for women gained great popularity among young girls. By the end of the period under studies in Galicia, in addition to the state, 24 private educational establishments of this type had been founded, but the number of Ukrainian girls, studying there was insignificant. This paper doesn't reveal all the aspects of the problem under analysis here. The subject of the further research may be as follows: the creative heritage of the pedagogues, connected with the problem of women's education of the period under investigation, – both in Western Ukrainian lands and abroad; the influence of West Ukrainian pedagogical ideas on the formation of the educational priorities in Western Ukrainian women's education and others.
