In the 1960s – 1970s American society has undergone substantial transformation associated with different ethnic groups struggle for self-determination and self-governance. Indigenous peoples of the United States have made every effort to self-organization, held a peaceful rally in support of their own demands across the country. Attention of the American society and international organizations provided the problem's wide resonance. There have been significant changes in American law system that put an end to the policy of assimilation of the indigenous peoples.After the World War II, despite the ambiguity of U.S. policy toward indigenous peoples, the latter managed to bring its relations with the federal government to a new level - the level of the newly formed community organizations and movements representing not a specific tribe, but indigenous community in general. Declaration of the right to self-determination and the respect for personal identity, cultural and spiritual values occured in the 1960s – 1970s , a period when the whole American society was transformed by the movements for civil rights (e.g., African Americans). On the verge of 1960s – 1970s principles of American Indian policy were formulated as «self-determination without termination». It changed the attitude of the authorities towards Aboriginal peoples. It has been adopted by a number of legal acts, especially «Indian Civil Rights Act» that provided the legal embodiment of a set of rights and freedoms to the American Indians. American Indians' self-determination and self-governance is a promising topic for further research based on the need for regulation of the legal status of the Crimean Tatars in Ukraine. ; В 60-ых – 70-ых гг. ХХ в. в американском обществе происходили значительные трансформации, связанные с борьбой различных этнических групп за самоопределение и самоуправление.Коренные народы США приложили максимум усилий для самоорганизации, проводя мирные акции в поддержку собственных требований по всей стране. Внимание американского общества и международных организаций обеспечили широкий резонанс проблеме. В законодательстве США произошли значительные изменения, которые положили конец политике ассимиляции коренных народов ; В 60-их – 70-их рр. ХХ ст. в американському суспільстві відбувалися значні трансформації, пов'язані із боротьбою різних етнічних груп за самовизначення та самоуправління. Корінні народи Сполучених Штатів доклали максимум зусиль для самоорганізації, проводячи мирні акції на підтримку власних вимог по всій країні. Увага американського суспільства та міжнародних організацій забезпечили широкий резонанс проблемі. В законодавстві США відбулись значні зміни, які поклали край політиці асиміляції корінних народів
