The article examines the concepts of authoritarianism and democracy in Turkey through an analysis of academic freedom. From its foundation, Turkish democracy has suffered from being hybrid, i.e., a combination of democratic and authoritarian elements. Since 2016, after the attempted coup d'état, Turkish parliamentarianism has been transformed into a one-man regime. This contribution analyses the new type of Turkish authoritarianism from its foundation, since the rise of Justice and Development Party (AKP), using the Gramscian concept of hegemony and the role of the intellectual. Then, the article presents an interview with a scholar still working in a Turkish university to better understand the state of academic freedom in Turkey. ; The article examines the concepts of authoritarianism and democracy in Turkey through an analysis of academic freedom.

One of the directions in order to study the changes that affected the university in postcomunist Romania is to analyze the relationship between politics and university. This analysis is situated on three levels: the university, the political elites and university and the university and the state. Our study aims to offer a profile of the members of the Romanian Parliament during the period 1990-2008 in terms of academic career. Following the Bourdieu's criteria on academic relevance our conclusion is that the presence of important members of the academic space in the Romanian Parliament explains on one hand the backwardness of the higher education system and on the other hand, the creation of the private universities after 1990.
The title of this essay is intentionally provocative, for there are many who believe that freedom of speech is the preeminent academic value. Stanley Fish's challenge to that popular view depends on a distinction between freedom of speech and freedom of inquiry. Freedom of speech is a democratic value. It says that in a democracy government should neither anoint nor stigmatize particular forms of speech, but act as an honest broker providing a framework and a forum for the competition of ideas and policies. In this vision, every voice has a right to be heard, at least theoretically. In the academy, on the other hand, free inquiry not free speech is the reigning ethic, and academic inquiry is engaged in only by those who have been certified as competent; not every voice gets to be heard. ; open ; Non definito ; open ; Gennero, Valeria ; Gennero, Valeria
Bogdan Suchodolski was a great Polish humanist and pedagogist of the second halfof the twentieth century. He was not only active in the national context, but also onan international level, since he had frequent cultural exchanges with scholars fromother countries and especially since he was a member of international bodies suchas Unesco. He asserted, both in his vast scientific production and in his teaching, the need for a formation of the people marked by the most authentic values, nowbetrayed and menaced by a society that is often subject to consumerism and fundamentalism. This interview (carried out in January 2014) with Irena Wojnar, one ofhis most staunch disciples and close collaborator, helps us shed some light on afew aspects of the teaching and production of the master, twenty years after hisdeath. The questions focus on three areas: the international role of B. Suchodolski, the weight of his thought in the political and social context of his country, thelifelong learning. Educational design can be widened by investigation of the writingsof the author discussed in the article. Before the beginning of the interview,an introduction gives some information on the figure of the Polish pedagogist.

Some European Union Member States have since 2013 enacted legislation to give authors the inalienable and unavailable right of making their scientific works available in Open Access to the public. Works that represent the result of research financed with public funds although previously published by commercial publishers. A recent Italian legislative proposal moves in the same direction. The right to make scientific work available in Open Access to the public is an important shield of academic freedom. The topic is worth considering with the aim to discuss existing legislative models, the proposed Italian law and possible future developments. ; Trento LawTech Research Paper nr. 37

The article deals with Jenny Griziotti Kretschmann, born in Wishni-Wolostchok (Russia) on 22 June 1884 in a middleclass family of German origin & died on 4 December 1980 in Pavia (Italy). In October 1905 she moved from Moscow to Lausanne in order to enroll at the Faculty of Social Sciences where she attended Vilfredo Pareto's courses in Economics. Here she met Benvenuto Griziotti, also in Lausanne for a postgraduate specializing course; in Pavia he would become one of the major Italian scholars in Finance. In 1908 she followed him to Rome where she enrolled at the Faculty of Law, & attended courses held by Antonio De Viti De Marco, Rodolfo Benini & Maffeo Pantaloni, who was carrying out innovative analysis on system dynamics factors. Under Pantaleoni's supervision, she got her full degree in December 1912. From 1930 until her retirement in 1954 she taught as a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Pavia (1930-1933), was assigned the course of Financial Law & Finance at the University of Parma (1935-1940) & of History of Economic Doctrines at the University of Pavia (1940-1954); since 1948 she was also assigned the course of Finance & Economic Policy. She never had the possibility to hold any academic chair; those who knew her acknowledged that her political creed & her status as an academic's wife did not favor her career at all. Some prevailing paths of interest can be discerned in her numerous articles, essays & monographs on issues in Economy & Economic Theory. Initially (1915-1929) she carried out pioneer systematic analysis of the peculiar features of Russian economy. Another area of interest of hers was the analysis of long-term price movements. A third research area she addressed included issues in economic & financial policies, & a fourth area of interest was the history of economic thought, in which regard her handbook is of primary importance; it is based on an interdisciplinary approach, as systems can be fully understood only if analyzed in the context of the social & ideological milieus in which they constitute & evolve in time. Part of her fecund activity is reflected in textbooks on economic policy & finance (1950-1954) & her commitment, also to the diffusion of economic thought, is testified by her transla-tions into Italian of works by Wagemann (1932), Wicks ell, von Mises & Hayek (1935) & the fifth Italian edition of Economics by P. Samuelson (1964). Partly inventoried biographical material & the collection of her writings are available in the Griziotti Family Archive in Pavia (Italy). The most significant recognition of her status has only recently been awarded by those few -- not Italian -- authors who came in contact with her scientific work. References.
