"Das Konzept des Spiels hat den Stellenwert eines ästhetischen Grundbegriffs. Als solcher kann Spiel die spezifische Qualität ästhetischer Erfahrungen aufklären und ist gleichzeitig ein zentraler Bestandteil psychoanalytischer Entwicklungstheorie. Anhand der Theorien Freuds, Winnicotts und Ogdens und vor allem im Bezug auf die Konzepte des Möglichkeits- und Übergangsraums wird versucht, den Zusammenhang zwischen spielerischem Verhalten, der Erzeugung von Subjektivität und kreativ-ästhetischen Prozessen zu rekonstruieren. Anschließend erfolgt die Untersuchung des Transkripts einer Bildbetrachtung, die mittels der Methode des lauten Denkens dokumentiert wurde. Ziel dieser Analyse ist zu zeigen, dass und wie kunstästhetische Erfahrungen subjektive Transformation und Reflexivität ermöglichen können." (Autorenreferat)

Kulturelle Bildung stellt sich heute die Aufgabe, ästhetische Erfahrungen bei ihrer jeweiligen Zielgruppe anzuregen. Wie aber können solche Erfahrungen zum Gegenstand empirischer Forschung gemacht werden? In diesem Beitrag werden zunächst einige grundlegende Theoriemomente ästhetischer Erfahrungen beschrieben und in ihrer Bedeutung für die empirischen Erforschung beleuchtet. Anschließend wird die Angemessenheit qualitativer Verfahren auf dem Forschungsgebiet herausgearbeitet. Bisherige qualitative Forschungsarbeiten bieten hinsichtlich des methodischen Zugangs zu ästhetischen Erfahrungen wertvolle Orientierung. So dienen einerseits sprachliche Äußerungen und andererseits künstlerische Gestaltungsprodukte als Dokumente. Anhand einer Grounded-Theory-Studie wird schließlich gezeigt, wie beide Zugänge im Rahmen eines musikpädagogischen Forschungsprojekts kombiniert wurden. Die Darstellung wesentlicher Ergebnisse gibt einen Überblick über die Facetten ästhetischer Erfahrungen in konkreten Bildungsangeboten, hier: verschiedenen Kompositionsprojekten mit Schülerinnen und Schülern. Am Schluss des Beitrags werden Aufgaben zukünftiger Forschungsvorhaben skizziert. (Autorenreferat)

This paper examines the potential of art as a space for intense encounters and investigates the value of (stereotype) images in a period of radical sociopolitical changes. Santiago Sierra's works serve as an example for artistic strategies, aiming at encounters, where traditional lines are crossed. They radically challenge the identities of the actors as well as those of the spectators. Sierra directly couples the production of images with the discrimination of people. The only way out of the work leads through a critical revision of the connections between aesthetics and ethics. The aesthetics of encounter use the experiential space of the artworks for a deep reflection of perceiving and acting. During the confrontation with the others, dialogical processes between people and (stereotype) images are getting started. The basic energies for the formation of subjectivity - discrimination of the others and the desire for them – are set free. This entails repeated changes between the object and the subject position. Caused by the intensity of confrontation, ethical issues arise during the aesthetic experience. In that way, alternative ways of acting in social relations can be tried out within the experiential space of art.

Die Forschungswerkstatt "Das Auge forscht mit", die 2016 vom Leibniz-Institut für Länderkunde in Leipzig angeboten wurde, bot eine Plattform für kritische Reflexionen von Visualisierungen in der raumbezogenen Forschungspraxis sowie für das Erproben und Diskutieren neuer innovativer Forschungsmethoden. Vor dem Hintergrund einer phänomenologisch-hermeneutischen wissenschaftlichen Grundperspektive boten wir einen experimentellen Workshop mit dem Titel "Zeichnen als epistemisches Verfahren. Eine geographische Werkstatt" an. Ziel des Workshops bestand darin, die Bedeutung des Zeichnens als eine epistemische Praxis, die Neues hervorbringt, für die raumbezogene Wissenschaft Geographie (wieder) ins Bewusstsein zu rufen. Wird das Zeichnen zur epistemischen Praxis, über die eine Geographie Form gewinnen kann, die sich im Entstehen und Entwurf begreift, handelt es sich um ein Tun, das Wissen schafft und produktiv ist. Produktivität in der Forschung, so unser Argument, setzt dann ein, wenn Sinnlichkeit und Reflexion als komplementäre Teile des Forschungsprozesses begriffen werden. Unser Workshopformat gab den Teilnehmern auf verschiedenen Ebenen Anregungen, um das Verhältnis von sinnlichem Erleben und sprachlich-rationalem Begreifen im Forschungsprozess zu erleben und zu reflektieren. In unserem Beitrag setzen wir uns vor dem Hintergrund des Forschungsstandes zur ästhetischen Dimension der Geographie mit der Verhältnisbestimmung von sinnlichem und kognitivem Begreifen auseinander, begründen den Aufbau des Workshops und reflektieren den Erkenntnisgewinn. Schließlich zeigen wir auf, welche Folgen das Ernstnehmen der ästhetischen Dimension der geographischen Forschung für das Fach- und Wissenschaftsverständnis und die Identität des Forschenden hat.

Popular entertainment and entertainment are considered essentially aesthetic phenomena. But is there a specific "aesthetics of the popular"? And how can mass arts affect the development of worldviews and identity orientations in a problematic way? Kaspar Maase focuses on the "mainstream" of mass arts and their everyday usage practices. In his study, he develops an understanding of popular culture as a network of practical interactions between people, texts, things, contexts, and situations, thus providing basic orientations for empirical research in a variety of disciplines. - Populäre Unterhaltung und Vergnügung gelten als wesentlich ästhetische Phänomene. Doch gibt es eine spezifische »Ästhetik des Populären«? Und inwiefern können Massenkünste die Ausbildung von Weltsichten und Identitätsorientierungen auf problematische Weise beeinflussen? For decades theology tended to be oriented towards the empirical social sciences, but since the 1990s a shift of orientation towards aesthetics has been observed. Art and aesthetic experience have become more important for the reflection of religious experience. The aesthetic dimension of faith is being rediscovered. Based on different concepts, the author explores the systematic theological fundamental preconditions of such a frame of reference and investigates the chances and limits of a closer relationship between theology and aesthetics. Die Autorin gibt in diesem Beitrag, basierend auf ihrer langjährigen Praxiserfahrung und Forschungsarbeit, Einblick in die Arbeitsprämissen von Augusto Boals Theater der Unterdrückten. Allen voran steht das Verständnis von Theater als Politik und Kommunikationsform und von Kunst als Erkenntnisinstrument für eine veränderbare Realität. Dabei müssen künstlerische und wissenschaftliche Prozesse Hand in Hand gehen. Abgerundet wird der Beitrag von Ausführungen zu Boals ästhetischer Bildung als Teil einer ganzheitlichen und auch nachhaltigen friedensstiftenden Bildungsarbeit. Dabei schließt Boal, wie die Autorin aufzeigt, an die Pädagogik Paulo Freires ebenso an wie an die Lernmethode von Moshé Feldenkrais. Ziel müsse eine Humanisierung der Menschheit sein: Werden auf körperlicher als auch auf psychischer Ebene verinnerlichte Muster, Haltungen, Glaubenssätze und Erfahrungen bewusst, schafft das Platz für Neues. The main priority is to understand theatre as politics and a form of communication and art as an instrument for obtaining knowledge of a changeable reality. Thus artistic and scientific processes must go hand in hand. The article is rounded off by remarks on Boal's aesthetic education as part of a holistic as well as sustainable peacemaking education. As the author indicates, Boal follows Paulo Freire's educational theory as well as Moshé Feldenkrais's method for learning. The goal must be the humanization of humanity: Whoever becomes aware of internalized patterns, attitudes, beliefs and experiences on a physical as well as psychological level creates space for something new. There is a controversy regarding the relationship between theory and practice in the field of pedagogy with no final decision on how to model it. From our perspective, theories concerning educational science are especially promising if they face the challenges associated with diverse educational practices and their special circumstances. As the central task we consider the development of a notion of the explicit as well as of the tacit side of practices and of the necessity to reflect these two. Looking at educational practices is not reduced to the explicit decisions concerning aims, subjects, schedules, social settings, etc., in the diverse pedagogical fields. It also entails the examination of the inexplicable knowledge on which social relations are based. Aesthetical dimensions of education like sensual perceptions and time-space-object relations then are important frames of the practical orientation. Furthermore, corporal dispositions and influences of non-formal learning on formal learning situations are explored. The incidental scenery formed by these tacit factors might open and broaden, or it might also close and restrict the significant ways of teaching and learning; it might empower learners and teachers in understanding, transcending, and creating the world, or constrain them in doing this.

Das Bedürfnis nach einem ethischen Lebensentwurf, nach einem guten Leben, verstanden als schönes, aktives und politisches Leben, scheint ungebrochen. Aber sind wir heute nicht gezwungen, "virtuosi" zu werden, die ihren Körper, ihre Sinne, all ihre Talente und Geschicke, einschließlich der sprachlichen, schöpferischen Fähigkeit einsetzen müssen, um im globalisierten, neoliberalen Wettbewerb zu bestehen? Yet today, aren't we forced to become "virtuosi" who must make use of our bodies, our senses, all our talents and gifts including linguistic, creative ability in order to survive the globalized, neoliberal competition? In the face of globalization and digitalization as well as the financial and government debt crisis and the challenges arising from them, Schiller's "aesthetic education" is extremely topical, above all his demand for playful communication between reason and experience and the question of cultural education. What would an "update" of aesthetic education for adult education look like? This issue of the Austrian Open Access Journal on Adult Education (Magazin erwachsenenbildung.at – Meb in German) is a collection of articles on aesthetic education, aesthetic experience and aesthetic perception in theory and practice, in art and music that reveal a great critical and emancipatory potential. Is creativity only experienced in the sense of a strict capitalistic and rationalistic reduction of the idea of education? Is art, understood as a critical examination of the present, a catalyst for personality development and emancipation today? This article presents and examines the emancipative possibilities of gamification, intergenerational cultural communication in aesthetic and feminist action, political and participative theatre work, teaching research projects with performance methods, participative development of digital learning media and models for aesthetic learning experiences. Ausgehend von Diskursen zu ästhetischer Bildung, Praxis und Erfahrung stellt der vorliegende Beitrag das Theater der Unterdrückten (TdU) als Ansatz politisch-partizipativer Theaterarbeit vor. Politisch-partizipative Theaterarbeit führt über ästhetische Bildung zu politischer Bildung und Beteiligung und kann als Modell für eine zeitgemäße, politische Bildungsarbeit verstanden werden – gerade auch außerhalb institutioneller Einschränkungen und Notwendigkeiten. Und: Politisch-partizipative Theaterarbeit eröffnet kreative Räume für gesellschaftspolitische Grundfragen und Alternativen. Beispiel hierfür ist die Theater- und Kulturinitiative InterACT, die seit vielen Jahren Theaterarbeit mit politischer Bildung und Beteiligung verknüpft. Therefore, medievalists also need to focus on the transfer of their research topics to the public both within and outside the university. Based on current political demands calling for a change in communication culture, the article first of all deals theoretically with two different concepts of research communication, by distinguishing between forms of translation and those of popularization. Numerous public events, exhibitions, and cooperative projects with cities, schools, adult education centres, museums, and other educational institutions show that knowledge about the Middle Ages has been transmitted to interested laypersons for a long time. The authors see a particular challenge in the alterity of medieval culture, which at the same time provides an excellent opportunity for transferring research findings into society. The fascination with medieval materiality facilitates the transfer of knowledge by those disciplines that work with concrete objects, addressing issues of visuality and aesthetic experience. The article pinpoints conditions, strategies, and perspectives of successful research communication in medieval studies, and when focussing on current topics, the authors refer to concrete occasions and regional examples, showing why medieval research is still relevant today. ; Research communication has been gaining public attention in recent years. Im Rahmen der Buchvorstellung von 'Phantasmata. Techniken des Unheimlichen' und der Image [&] Narrative Online-Ausgaben 'Hauntings' diskutieren Herausgeber und Autorinnen Besonderheiten, Bedeutung und Tragweite des Unheimlichen. Phantasmata. Techniken des Unheimlichen, vierter Band in der Reihe Cultural Inquiry, setzt bei Sigmund Freuds psychoanalytischem Modell des Unheimlichen an, verfolgt die historische Genese und zeichnet die heterogene Entwicklung bis ins 21. Jahrhundert nach.
