In einer Zeit der "Prävention", wächst der Wunsch nach einem tieferen Verständnis für die Bewertung von Kriminalität und kriminalpräventiven Maßnahmen. Die Arbeit befasst sich mit dem gegenwärtigen Stand der monetären Bemessungsformen von Kriminalität und mit der Anwendung von Kosten-Nutzen-Analysen im kriminalpolitischen Kontext. In ihrer Analyse leitet die Autorin eine Reihe von Kriterien aus internationaler Forschung und Praxis ab, um mit ihnen zur wissenschaftlichen Verarbeitung und zur Umsetzung im politischen Leben beizutragen. Ein besonderes Augenmerk gilt dem europäischen Versuch einer standardisierten Methodenumsetzung (MMECC), der im Rahmen des FP6-Programms für maßnahmenorientierte Forschung in Form eines "How-to-Manuals" präsentiert wurde. Das Thema wird aus kriminologischer Sicht aufgearbeitet, um für diesen anwendungsorientierten Forschungszweig mögliche Handlungsoptionen aufzuzeigen und einen Beitrag zur weiteren Diskussion auf europäischer Ebene zu leisten. ; This book examines the tools and the mindset behind estimating the costs of crime and using cost-benefit-analysis (CBA) in criminal justice policy. In an era of "prevention", there seems to be a growing interest in developing a more profound body of knowledge of cost and benefit figures on crime and crime prevention measures. The author derives a set of criteria from international research and practice, and she concludes with a set of recommendations on how to enhance this particular research branch in Germany. As she makes the case for standardized methodologies, she redirects the attention to the European cost of crime assessment model (MMECC), which has been developed as part of the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) supporting policy oriented research (2008). This scientific inventory addresses the topic from a criminological perspective, in order to facilitate the related discourse on evidence-based policy making in Germany, as well as to promote the discussion at European level.
Systemic innovation theory emphasizes that innovations are the result of an interdependent exchange process between different organizations. This is reflected in the current paradigm in European innovation policy, which aims at the support of collaborative R&D and innovation projects bringing together science and industry. Building on a large data set using project-level evidence on 406 subsidized R&D cooperation projects, the present paper provides detailed insights on the relationship between the innovative success of R&D cooperation projects and project characteristics. Patent applications and publications are used as measures for direct outcomes of R&D projects. We also differentiate between academic-industry projects and pure inter-firm projects. Main results of negative binomial regressions are that large-firm involvement is positively related to patent applications, but not to publications. Conversely, university involvement has positive effects on project outcomes in terms of publications but not in terms of patent applications. In general, projects' funding is an important predictor of innovative success of R&D cooperation projects. No significant results are found for spatial proximity among cooperation partners and for the engagement of an applied research institute. Results are discussed with respect to the design of R&D cooperation support schemes. ; Die gegenwärtige europäische Innovationspolitik unterstreicht das systemische Verständnis von Innovationsprozessen, demzufolge Innovationen das Ergebnis interdependenter Austauschprozesse verschiedener Akteure sind. Dies spiegelt sich in einer verstärkten öffentlichen Förderung kooperativer FuE- und Innovationsvorhaben zwischen Wissenschafts- und Wirtschaftsakteuren wider. Der vorliegende Beitrag untersucht diesbezüglich den Einfluss wesentlicher Charakteristika solcher FuE-Verbundvorhaben auf deren innovativen Erfolg anhand eines Datensatzes von 406 geförderten FuEProjekten. Zur Messung des Innovationsoutputs dieser Projekte werden Patentanmeldungen und Publikationen herangezogen. Ferner wird nach Verbundprojekten zwischen Wissenschaft und Industrie und Projekten mit ausschließlich industriellen Partnern differenziert. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Einbindung von Großunternehmen einen positiven Einfluss auf Patentanmeldungen hat, nicht aber auf die Zahl der Publikationen. Die Einbindung einer Universität in ein Verbundprojekt hat positive Effekte auf die Zahl der Publikationen, nicht aber auf die Anzahl der Patentanmeldungen. Ferner lassen sich signifikant positive Effekte für die Höhe der Förderung nachweisen. Räumliche Nähe der Kooperationspartner wie auch die Einbindung eines anwendungsorientierten Forschungsinstitutes haben keinen Einfluss auf den Innovationserfolg der FuE-Kooperationsprojekte. Der Beitrag schließt mit einer Diskussion der Ergebnisse hinsichtlich der Ausgestaltung von Förderprogrammen zugunsten von FuE-Kooperationen.
Against the background of post-socialist transition and nationwide economic growth in Azerbaijan this dissertation analyses the utilisation of rangeland resources by mobile pastoralists in Azerbaijan. The study was motivated by the initially scarce knowledge about pastoralism in Azerbaijan and concerns about declining pasture condition due to growing livestock numbers. The study was guided by three research objectives, which were addressed cumulatively in five publications. The first objective aims at analysing the development of pastoralism in the transition period in comparison to developments in the pastoral sectors of other post-socialist countries. Secondly, the study addresses socio-economic causes of inappropriate pasture management by pastoralists. Finally, in an application-oriented research process recommendations for improving the management of pastoral farms and pasture governance were developed in order to mitigate inappropriate pasture management. For addressing these objectives the study frames the management of rangelands as a complex natural resource management system, in which the environment, users, governance structures, and the socio-political context are closely linked. Within this framework, the study focused especially on pastoral farms using a farm economics approach and on pasture governance with employing institutional economic theories. Regarding the methodology, a case study approach in four study regions was chosen in order to deal with the ex-ante limited information about Azerbaijani pastoralism and the explanatory aim of research. ; Diese Dissertation analysiert die Nutzung von Weideressourcen durch mobile Tierhalter vor dem Hintergrund post-sozialistischer Transformationsprozesse und nationalem Wirtschaftswachstum in Aserbaidschan. Die Arbeit wurde durch fehlende Informationen über mobile Tierhaltung in Aserbaidschan und die Sorge um eine abnehmende Weidequalität auf Grund steigender Tierzahlen motiviert. Die Dissertation wird von drei Forschungszielen geleitet, die zusammenfassend in fünf Publikationen bearbeitet wurden. Das erste Forschungsziel fokussiert auf die Entwicklung der Tierhaltung während der Transformation in Aserbaidschan im Vergleich zu zeitgleichen Prozessen in den Tierhaltungssektoren anderer post-sozialistischer Länder. Zweitens analysiert die Studie sozio-ökonomische Gründe für unangepasstes Weidemanagement durch die Tierhalter. Letztlich werden in einem anwendungsorientierten Forschungsprozess Empfehlungen für ein verbessertes Management von Tierhaltungsbetrieben und für Veränderungen ihres institutionellen Rahmens entwickelt, um unangepasstes Weidemanagement zu korrigieren. Um diese Forschungsfragen zu beantworten, wird Weidemanagement als komplexes System des Managements natürlicher Ressourcen konzeptualisiert, in dem Umwelt, Nutzer, Regelungsstrukturen und das sozio-politische Umfeld eng verknüpft sind. In diesem konzeptionellen Rahmen fokussiert die Studie mit der Anwendung eines landwirtschaftlich-betriebswirtschaftlichen Ansatzes besonders auf die Tierhaltungsbetriebe sowie mithilfe institutionenökonomischer Theorien auf die Regelungsstrukturen für Weidezugang. Als methodischer Ansatz wurde eine Fallstudie gewählt.
Die Auswirkungen von Direktinvestitionen deutscher Unternehmen auf die Arbeitsbeziehungen in Mittel-/Osteuropa Am Beispiel ausgewählter Länderfallstudien in Polen, der Tschechischen und Slowakischen Republik In diesem Forschungsprojekt untersucht das Institut Arbeit und Wirtschaft die Veränderungen der Arbeitsbeziehungen in Betrieb und Unternehmen der EU-Beitrittsländer unter dem Einfluß ausländischer Direktinvestitionen. Die Untersuchung erstreckt sich auf die Branchen Metall/Stahl, Chemie/Energie und die Nahrungsmittel produzierende Industrie in drei ausgewählten Mittelosteuropäischen Ländern (Polen, Tschechische Republik und Slowakei). Das Projekt ist anwendungsorientiert und setzt sich das Ziel, an einem Netzwerk von Wissenschaftlern und Praktikern, die mit den Arbeitsbeziehungen befasst sind, mitzuwirken. Dazu dienen eine Reihe von Hearings und Konferenzen in den beteiligten Ländern. [.] Im vorliegenden Arbeitspapier präsentieren die beteiligten Wissenschaftler einen Überblick über die Entwicklung der Arbeitsbeziehungen in ihren jeweiligen Ländern. Das Projekt wird finanziell gefördert durch die Hans-Böckler-Stiftung und die Otto Brenner Stiftung. ; The Impact of Foreign Direct Investments of German Companies on the Labour Relations in Middle-East-European Countries - Taking the Examples of Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia The controversial themes of "free movement of labour", "free movement of services", "costs for adaptation" dominate the discussion about the Eastern enlargement of the EU. The indirect long-term economic and political benefits of the EU enlargement as well as the costs for nonenlargement remain untouched. The Foreign Direct Investments can play a considerable role to modernise the economy and the social welfare state in Middle/East Europe. But this means, that other social actors than the state as trade unions, employers' associations, company management and employee representatives at works and company level have to take over an enormous responsibility. In the wake of foreign direct investments in the CEE countries, social actors from West European as well as from Central and eastern European countries can and must contribute to foster a "social Europe" more than ever before. [.] A research project, coordinated by the Institute Labour and Economy, University of Bremen aks for The Impact of Foreign Direct Investments of EU based Companies on Labour Relations in EU Candidate Countries". It covers the chemical, energy, metal, steel and food processing industry in three selected countries of Central and Eastern Europe, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. This project is an applied research, advisory and qualification project which also has the character of a model study. Through organizing hearings and conferences of results there should be closer connection to network with researchers and practitioners who are concerned with labour relations. Furthermore considerations regarding dealing with and examining the mutual effects between foreign direct investments and labour relations in the three CEE countries should be discussed and worked on with company and trade union representatives and other experts. The objective of the study are the labour relations at plant/company level, considering the supra company and legal levels too, if necessary. The empirical work of the study concentrates on evaluation of already existing surveys, expert interview on companies' and supra-companies level. The papers, presented herein, collect preliminary studies of the development of labour relations in the three countries, contributed by the partners in Poland, the Czech Republik and Slovakia. They are based on a evaluation of existing surveys and own research and should be taken as a framework for further investigation and as incentives for the following working packages of the project. A strong increase of onshore and offshore wind power capacities is an official political target in Germany and other countries. The wind energy shares therefore rise in many power systems. Wind power generation has other characteristics than the power generation by conventional power plants. The wind is a natural resource that is fluctuating. The meteorological dependency leads to a limited predictability of the available power. A third aspect is the concentration of wind farms at locations with high wind yields as in the North of Germany. From a methodological point of view, the thesis focuses on the analysis of the three aspects with regard to the power system operation and the development of related modelling approaches. This especially refers to the application of a stochastic optimization model for the system analysis and to the simulation of wind power generation and wind power forecasts. The application orientated focus is on a scenario analysis of the German power system in 2020. The analysis aims at the identification of promising system adaptations that lead to an improved wind power integration and a more efficient power system operation. Before the model presentation, the importance of the three aspects above is discussed giving the basics for the latter modelling. It is shown that the residual load fluctuations are increased by the wind power generation, especially if they are related to the residual load levels. The flexibility of thermal power plants is also regarded here. An analysis of operational uncertainties shows the importance of wind power forecast errors in relation to load forecast errors. The DC load flow model and characteristics of the transmission grid are explained. A stochastic market model is presented that allows an integrative analysis of the wind power integration. One characteristic of the optimization model is the application of a rolling planning so that forecast errors can be specifically considered. A main modification of the model compared to earlier model versions is given by the representation of grid constraints. A grid reduction approach is developed that reduces the transmission grid to a simplified structure that is applied in the market model. The grid reduction approach is based on a comparison of DC load flow solutions in the reduced and unreduced grid. Additionally, an approach for the calculation of tertiary reserves is given. The approach considers the wind forecast quality and combines probabilistic elements with an optimization. The simulation of wind power generation and forecasts combines different analyses and methods. General quantitative relations between the variability of wind power generation and the geographical region size are derived. The equations are applied in the simulation of wind power generation that is based on adapted wind power curves. The adapted power curves consider regional smoothing effects in the transformation of wind speed to wind power. The simulation results reflect the high variability of the concentrated offshore wind power. For the simulation of the wind power forecasts, a scenario generation method based on moment matching is presented that allows simulating non Gaussian distributed forecast errors and their correlations. The results of a statistical analysis of measured forecast errors are used in the simulation. An empirical relation between error correlation and geographical distance is for example given. The German forecast quality that is simulated for 2020 assuming an improvement of forecasting by 20% is, related to the installed capacity, similar to the one of today due to the high spatial concentration of the offshore capacities. For the scenario analysis of the power system in 2020, the power plant portfolios of twelve German regions and other parameters are derived based on different sources. This includes reserve requirement values and reduced grid parameters that are calculated by the methods mentioned above. The results show that, in the regarded scenario, 3% of the yearly wind energy cannot be integrated into the system. They are curtailed nearly exclusively due to transmission constraints. The network congestions also lead to high differences between the regional electricity prices. The yearly costs of wind forecast errors amount to circa 180 million Euros or 1% of the operational system costs. The model results thereby indicate a large cost saving potential by risk management methods. Based on scenario modifications, integration measures related to CAES capacities, demand side management and more flexible power plants as well as infrastructural changes by grid expansions and an adapted geographical allocation of power plants are analysed. The importance of a stochastic modelling approach for the evaluation of flexibility related scenarios is shown. The comparison of the integration measures identifies infrastructural changes as most efficient system improvements whereas the benefits of CAES capacities are small. Assuming a grid without any transmission constraints, the yearly system costs are reduced by one billion Euros. A limited grid upgrade leads to 10% of this cost reduction. Similar cost savings are achieved by adapting the geographical locations of the power plants. Adjusting the generation to the grid is therefore a promising alternative to grid expansions especially considering the long processes that are involved with new transmission lines. A market design with regional electricity prices would give related incentives. ; Ein starker Ausbau der Windenergie, onshore und offshore, ist ein erklärtes politisches Ziel in Deutschland und anderen Ländern. Der Windenergieanteil nimmt folglich in immer mehr Stromsystemen zu. Die Stromerzeugung durch Windenergie weist andere Eigenschaften auf als sie beim Betrieb konventioneller Kraftwerke gegeben sind. Die Erzeugung beruht auf der natürlichen Ressource Wind und ist daher fluktuierend. Die meteorologische Abhängigkeit führt auch zu einer begrenzten Prognostizierbarkeit des verfügbaren Stromes. Ein dritter Aspekt ist die Konzentration der Windenergieanlagen an windreichen Standorten wie im Norden Deutschlands. Die Arbeit verfolgt zunächst das methodische Ziel, diese drei Aspekte bei der Analyse des Strombetriebs greifbar zu machen und geeignete Ansätze für die Strommarktmodellierung zu entwickeln. Dies betrifft insbesondere die Simulation der Windstromerzeugung und Windstromprognosen und die Anwendung eines stochastischen Optimierungsmodells zur Systemanalyse. Außerdem wird das anwendungsorientierte Ziel verfolgt, verschiedene Szenarien des deutschen Stromsystems für das Jahr 2020 zu untersuchen. Vielversprechende Systemanpassungen für eine verbesserte Integration der Windenergie und einen effizienteren Strombetrieb sind dabei zu identifizieren. Vor der Methodenentwicklung und Anwendung des Strommarktmodells wird zunächst die Bedeutung der drei obengenannten Aspekte erörtert und die Grundlage für dianpassungen hinsichtlich des Einsatzes von CAES Speicherkraftwerken, Demand Side Mangagement und flexiblerer Kraftwerke sowie Änderungen der Infrastruktur durch Netzausbauten und einer angepassten geographischen Allokation von Kraftwerken untersucht. Die Ergebnisse belegen die Vorteile eines stochastischen Marktmodellierungsansatzes für die Evaluierung flexibilitätsbezogener Integrationsmaßnahmen. Der Vergleich der Integrationsmaßnahmen identifiziert infrastrukturelle Maßnahmen als wirksamste Systemverbesserung, während der Nutzen zusätzlicher CAES Speicherkapazitäten gering ist. Unter der Annahme eines Netzes ohne Übertragungsengpässe reduzieren sich die jährlichen Systembetriebskosten um eine Milliarde Euro. In einem moderateren Netzausbauszenario lassen sich nur 10% dieser Einsparung realisieren. Eine Kostenreduktion in ähnlicher Höhe wird durch eine angepasste Standortwahl neuer Kraftwerke erreicht. Eine Anpassung der Stromerzeugung an die Netzsituation ist demnach eine vielversprechende Alternative zu Netzausbauten, die vor allem auch wegen der langwierigen Prozesse beim Bau neuer Netzleitungen interessant ist. Ein regionales Preismodell würde dafür Anreize schaffen.
In Germany, secondary school students differ greatly in their science achievement, a dispersion that is far above the OECD average (Schiepe-Tiska, Rönnebeck, & Neumann, 2019). Immigrant students tend to be at the lower end of the scale in Germany – on average, they achieve substantially less well in science than non-immigrant students (OECD, 2016d), which is partially due to the German school system (Zoido, 2013). These differences in achievement translate into underrepresentation of immigrants in science-related jobs in Germany (OECD, 2008). Achievement and career choices are closely intertwined with academic self-concept (for an overview see Marsh & Craven, 2006). Regarding science self-concept, the pattern that immigrant students tend to score lower is present in many countries (e.g. Riegle-Crumb, Moore, & Ramos-Wada, 2011). The goal of the present research project was to investigate these inequalities between immigrant and non-immigrant secondary school students. This was done focusing on secondary school students' chemistry self-concepts. Chemistry self-concepts were focused on because achievement in chemistry is an important factor for careers in natural sciences (Cohen & Kelly, 2019). Research on chemistry self-concept has concentrated on young adults (e.g. Bauer, 2005; Xu & Lewis, 2011) and so little is known about secondary school students. Besides the impact of students' migration background, the research project analyses the role that gender plays because gender has important effects on science self-concepts (e.g. Jurik, Gröschner, & Seidel, 2013; Riegle-Crumb et al., 2011; Wan & Lee, 2017). A big challenge in this context was that the prevailing methods in academic self-concept research are prone to yield biased data (Byrne, 2002; Byrne et al., 2009). Although this was pointed out more than 15 years ago, the problem persists in science self-concept research. The present research project addresses this issue and presents a new mixed methods approach to culture-sensitive academic self-concept research. The term 'culture' is used in the sense of migration background, a concept that categorizes people's migration histories in Germany. A combination of qualitative interview data and quantitative data permit an investigation of certain types of bias defined by Byrne and colleagues (2009). The pilot study operated with a chemistry self-concept questionnaire (N=116) and qualitative interviews (N=43). The main study was based on an extended questionnaire comprising several other scales (N=585) and deeper qualitative interviews (N=48). The hypotheses based on the literature were that in Germany, (h1) immigrant students would show more negative chemistry self-concepts than non-immigrant students. (h2) Female students would show more negative chemistry self-concepts than male students. The third hypothesis (h3) was that the home environment has an important impact on students' chemistry self-concepts. The first two hypotheses (h1 and h2) were not confirmed. Gender and migration background did not show a significant effect on students' chemistry self-concepts. Instead, gender relations differ depending on the students' migration background. Among students without a migration background, boys tend to have stronger chemistry self-concepts than girls. In contrast, among students with a Turkish migration background, girls tend to have stronger chemistry self-concepts. Existing science self-concept literature did not explain this. Literature on gender relations in science in Turkey suggests that this interaction effect could be due to a more gender-neutral conception of science in Turkey. Slightly more women than men work in science in Turkey (OECD, 2009a) and girls achieve substantially better (Batyra, 2017a, 2017b). According to the third hypothesis (h3), the gender conceptions in Turkey could potentially be transmitted to students with a Turkish migration background in the home environment, through their parents or other people. Science education literature did not provide a satisfying model for conceptualizing the influence of the home environment on students in the field of chemistry that would allow investigating the third hypothesis (h3). Therefore, the concept of chemistry capital was introduced based on the analysis of the interviews in the main study. Chemistry capital was developed based on the concept of science capital by Archer and colleagues (2015). Chemistry capital conceptualizes the resources a person possesses that have value in the field of chemistry. This encompasses social networks (e.g. knowing a chemist) as well as emotional and cognitive resources (e.g. attitudes towards chemistry and chemistry knowledge), and the engagement in chemistry-related activities. In particular, the concept allows analyzing the transmission processes of chemistry from the home environment to the individual student. The qualitative analyses in the main study showed that the chemistry capital home environment influences the students in the field of chemistry in multiple ways. This supports hypothesis 3 (h3). Further, the data suggest that structural inequalities in the German school system might foster differences in chemistry. Students who already possess little chemistry capital in their home environments are in addition found more often at the type of school (Hauptschule) in which the proportion of chemistry teachers who do not hold a university degree in chemistry is the highest, depriving these students of another possible source of chemistry capital. Vice versa, students who already possess a lot of chemistry capital in their home environments more often attend school types (Gymnasium, Realschule) where also more formally qualified chemistry teachers are available, thus potentially widening the gap. The mixed methods analysis in the main study suggested that a simple linear relationship between student chemistry self-concept and chemistry capital in the home environment does not exist. A study based on quantitative (or mixed methods) analyses of data of a larger sample on chemistry capital in the home environment and students' chemistry self-concepts could provide further insights. It is not yet clear if the third hypothesis (h3) is true. To sum up, the present research project thus advances the field of chemistry education in three regards: (i) it provides an approach to culture-sensitive academic self-concept. This approach proved to increase both the validity and the explanatory power of chemistry self-concept research. It is not chemistry-specific and can, thus, be used in other areas of research as well. (ii) The research discovered an interaction effect of gender and migration background on chemistry self-concept that was unknown in science education literature. (iii) It introduces and defines the concept of chemistry capital which permits to analyze chemistry education from a sociocultural perspective. Employing the concept of chemistry capital helps to shift the focus from the individual student to the resources a student possesses in the sociocultural context that help him or her succeed in the field of chemistry. This allows uncovering social inequalities in the field that need to be addressed in educational policy. Moreover, it can inspire intervention studies and application-focused research (e.g. approaches to culture-sensitive chemistry teaching). ; Schülerinnen und Schüler in Deutschland unterscheiden sich immens in ihren Leistungen in den Naturwissenschaften, eine deutlich breitere Streuung als im OECD-Mittel (Schiepe-Tiska et al., 2019). Schülerinnen und Schüler mit Migrationshintergrund befinden sich in Deutschland tendenziell am unteren Ende der Leistungsskala – im Durchschnitt zeigen sie erheblich schlechtere Leistungen in den Naturwissenschaften als Schülerinnen und Schüler ohne Migrationshintergrund (OECD, 2016d). Dies scheint zu einem Teil dem deutschen Schulsystem geschuldet (Zoido, 2013). Diese Leistungsunterschiede in den Naturwissenschaften schlagen sich auf dem Arbeitsmarkt nieder: In Deutschland sind Personen mit Migrationshintergrund in naturwissenschaftsnahen Berufen unterrepräsentiert (OECD, 2008). Leistungen und Berufswahl sind eng mit akademischen Selbstkonzepten verwoben (for an overview see Marsh & Craven, 2006). Und auch hier zeigt sich, dass Schülerinnen und Schüler mit Migrationshintergrund in vielen Ländern schwächere naturwissenschaftliche Selbstkonzepte haben (e.g. Riegle-Crumb et al., 2011). Ziel des vorliegenden Forschungsprojekts war es, diese Ungleichheiten zwischen Schülerinnen und Schülern der Sekundarstufe zu untersuchen. Hierzu wurden ihre Selbstkonzepte analysiert, mit besonderem Fokus auf den Aspekt des Migrationshintergrunds. Genauer gesagt wurden Chemie-Selbstkonzepte untersucht, da Leistungen in diesem Fach eine Gatekeeper-Funktion für naturwissenschaftliche Karrieren besitzen (Cohen & Kelly, 2019). Die Forschung über Chemie-Selbstkonzepte hat sich in der Vergangenheit auf junge Erwachsene beschränkt (e.g. Bauer, 2005; Xu & Lewis, 2011), weshalb wenig über die Chemie-Selbstkonzepte von Schülerinnen und Schülern der Sekundarstufe bekannt ist. Neben dem Migrationshintergrund wird auch Gender als Variable betrachtet, da Gender bedeutenden Einfluss auf naturwissenschaftliche Selbstkonzepte ausübt (e.g. Jurik et al., 2013; Riegle-Crumb et al., 2011; Wan & Lee, 2017). In diesem Kontext stellte sich die große Herausforderung, dass die vorherrschenden Methoden in der Forschung zu akademischen Selbstkonzepte möglicherweise verzerrte Daten liefern (Byrne, 2002; Byrne et al., 2009). Obwohl diese Problematik schon vor über 15 Jahren thematisiert wurde, besteht es in der naturwissenschaftlichen Selbstkonzeptforschung bis heute fort. Das vorliegende Forschungsprojekt befasst sich mit diesem Problem und legt einen neuen Forschungsansatz für kultursensible akademische Selbstkonzeptforschung im Mixed-Methods-Design vor. Der Begriff der 'Kultur' wird hier im Sinne des Migrationshintergrunds genutzt, ein Konzept, mit dem sich die Migrationsgeschichten der Menschen in Deutschland kategorisieren lassen. Die Kombination aus qualitativen Interviewdaten und quantitativen Daten ermöglicht es, einige der Arten von Verzerrungen zu detektieren, die von Byrne und Kollegen (2009) definiert wurden. In der Pilotstudie wurden Daten mittels eines Fragebogens zum Chemie-Selbstkonzept (N=116) sowie qualitativer Interviews erhoben (N=43). Die Hauptstudie basiert auf Fragebogen (N=585), der einige weitere Skalen umfasst, sowie qualitativen Interviews (N=48). Aus der Literatur wurden folgende Hypothesen abgeleitet: (h1) Schülerinnen und Schüler mit Migrationshintergrund zeigen vermutlich schwächere Chemie-Selbstkonzepte als solche ohne Migrationshintergrund. (h2) Weibliche Schülerinnen zeigen vermutlich schwächere Chemie-Selbstkonzepte als männliche Schüler. (h3) Das häusliche Umfeld übt vermutlich einen bedeutenden Einfluss auf die Chemie-Selbstkonzepte der Schülerinnen und Schüler aus. Die ersten beiden Hypothesen (h1 und h2) bestätigten sich nicht. Gender und Migrationshintergrund zeigten keine signifikanten Effekte auf die Chemie-Selbstkonzepte der Schülerinnen und Schüler. Stattdessen zeigte sich, dass die Geschlechterverhältnisse von den Migrationshintergründen der Schülerinnen und Schüler abhängen. Bei den Schülerinnen und Schülern ohne Migrationshintergrund haben Jungen tendenziell stärkere Chemie-Selbstkonzepte als Mädchen. Im Gegensatz hierzu zeigen bei den Schülerinnen und Schülern mit türkischem Migrationshintergrund die Mädchen tendenziell stärkere Chemie-Selbstkonzepte als die Jungen. Die bestehende Forschung zu naturwissenschaftlichen Selbstkonzepten vermochte diese Befunde nicht zu erklären. Literatur über die Geschlechterverhältnisse in den Naturwissenschaften in der Türkei legt die Vermutung nahe, dass dieser Interaktionseffekt auf einem stärker genderneutralen Konzept der Naturwissenschaften in der Türkei beruhen könnte. In der Türkei arbeiten etwas mehr Frauen als Männer in naturwissenschaftlichen Berufen (OECD, 2009a) und Mädchen zeigen deutlich bessere Leistungen in Naturwissenschaften (Batyra, 2017a, 2017b). Nach der dritten Hypothese (h3) könnten diese Gender-Konzepte möglicherweise durch das häusliche Umfeld, also durch Eltern oder andere wichtige Bezugspersonen an die Schülerinnen und Schüler mit türkischem Migrationshintergrund weitergetragen werden. Die naturwissenschaftsdidaktische Literatur hielt kein zufriedenstellendes Modell bereit zur Konzeptualisierung des Einflusses des häuslichen Umfelds auf die Schülerinnen und Schüler im Feld der Chemie und somit zur Untersuchung der dritten Hypothese (h3). Aus diesem Grund wurde im vorliegenden Forschungsprojekt das Konzept des chemistry capital entwickelt und in die Forschungsliteratur eingeführt. Chemistry capital basiert auf der Forschung zu science capital nach Archer und Kollegen (2015). Chemistry capital konzeptualisiert die Ressourcen einer Person, die im Feld der Chemie Wert haben. Dies umfasst soziale Netzwerke (z. B. Kontakt zu einer Chemikerin/einem Chemiker), emotionale und kognitive Ressourcen (z. B. Chemie-Wissen und Einstellung gegenüber Chemie) sowie chemiebezogene Aktivitäten. Die qualitativen Analysen zeigten, dass das chemistry capital im häuslichen Umfeld die Schülerinnen und Schüler im Feld der Chemie auf vielfältige Weise beeinflusst. Dies unterstützt Hypothese 3 (h3). Weiterhin legen die Daten die Vermutung nahe, dass strukturelle Ungleichheiten im deutschen Schulsystem die Unterschiede in Chemie verstärken. Schülerinnen und Schüler mit wenig chemistry capital in ihrem häuslichen Umfeld besuchen tendenziell Schulen, in denen der Anteil an fachfremden Chemielehrkräften besonders hoch ist. Hierdurch wird diesen Schülerinnen und Schülern eine wichtige Quelle von chemistry capital vorenthalten. Im Gegensatz hierzu scheinen die Schülerinnen und Schüler, die bereits in ihrem häuslichen Umfeld über chemistry capital verfügen, tendenziell Schulen zu besuchen, in denen Chemie fast ausschließlich durch Fachlehrkräfte unterrichtet wird. Die Mixed-Methods-Analyse in der Hauptstudie legte die Vermutung nahe, dass zwischen Chemie-Selbstkonzept der Schülerinnen und Schüler und chemistry capital im häuslichen Umfeld kein linearer Zusammenhang besteht. Eine Studie mit größerem Stichprobenumfang basierend auf quantitativen (oder Mixed-Methods-) Analysen von chemistry capital im häuslichen Umfeld und Chemie-Selbstkonzept könnte tiefere Einblicke bieten. Es ist derzeit noch unklar, ob die dritte Hypothese (h3) wahr ist. Das vorliegende Forschungsprojekt treibt die chemie- und naturwissenschafts-didaktische Forschung also in dreifacher Hinsicht voran: (i) Es legt einen Ansatz für kultursensible Erforschung akademischer Selbstkonzepte vor. Dieser Ansatz verbesserte sowohl die Validität als auch die Erklärungskraft der Chemie-Selbstkonzeptforschung. Er ist nicht chemiespezifisch und kann daher in anderen Bereichen der Selbstkonzeptforschung genutzt werden. (ii) Ein Interaktionseffekt von Gender und Migrationshintergrund wurde entdeckt, der in der Literatur zuvor noch nicht beschrieben wurde. (iii) Das Konzept des chemistry capital wurde definiert und in die Literatur eingeführt. Es ermöglicht Analysen des Chemielernens aus einer soziokulturellen Perspektive. Der Fokus verschiebt sich von den individuellen Schülerinnen und Schülern hin zu den Ressourcen, über die eine Schülerin oder ein Schüler in seinem oder ihrem sozikulturellen Kontext verfügt und die sie oder ihn im Feld der Chemie unterstützen. Dies erlaubt es, soziale Ungleichheiten in dem Feld aufzudecken, mit denen sich die Bildungspolitik befassen muss. Weiterhin birgt chemistry capital das Potential, Interventionsstudien und anwendungsorientierte Forschung (z. B. Ansätze zu kultursensiblem Chemieunterricht) zu inspirieren.
