Domestic Violence in Immigrant Communities: Case Studies" is a freely accessible eCampus Ontario Pressbook containing case studies of immigrant women experiencing domestic violence to be used as educational materials. The contents were created by analysing closed legal case files of 15 immigrant women living in Ontario who experienced domestic violence. The comprehensive case studies that emerge from this research present domestic violence experienced by immigrant women in all its complexity, highlighting their unique vulnerability at the intersections of race, gender and immigration status. The book also highlights the different legal processes that these women encounter in seeking justice and the challenges they face in relation to re-establishing their own lives and the lives of their children. In addition to the cases, the book contains questions for reflection; a description of legal processes involved in DV cases, and a glossary of the terms used throughout the case studies. Abstract: Advocacy is an integral part of child and youth care workers' roles and a significant component of child and youth care politicized praxis and radical youth work. Drawing from the qualitative data of a mixed-methods study conducted in 2019 at a Canadian metropolitan university, this study seeks to unpack how the pedagogy of the lightning talk can foster advocacy skills to effectively and spontaneously speak out with and on behalf of children, youth, and families in everyday practice when an unforeseen systemic challenge or barrier arises. A purposive sample of 70 undergraduate students was recruited in two child and youth care courses, both of which required students to present a lightning talk. Participants completed an online questionnaire with closed-ended and open-ended questions in order to share their perspectives of the pedagogy of the lightning talk. The findings show that the lightning talk fosters twenty-first century and metacognitive skills and, most importantly, advocacy skills. Background Mobile health apps (mHealth apps) are increasing in popularity and utility for the management of many chronic diseases. Although the current reimbursement structure for mHealth apps is lagging behind the rapidly improving functionality, more clinicians will begin to recommend these apps as they prove their clinical worth. Payors such as the government or private insurance companies will start to reimburse for the use of these technologies, especially if they add value to patients by providing timely support, a more streamlined patient experience, and greater patient convenience. Payors are likely to see benefits for providers, as these apps could help increase productivity between in-office encounters without having to resort to expensive in-person visits when patients are having trouble managing their disease. Key findings To guide and perhaps speed up adoption of mHealth apps by patients and providers, analysis and evaluation of existing apps needs to be carried out and more feedback must be provided to app developers. In this paper, an evaluation of 35 mHealth apps claiming to provide cognitive behavioural therapy was conducted to assess the quality of the patient-provider relationship and evidence-based practices embedded in these apps. The mean score across the apps was 4.9 out of 20 functional criteria all of which were identified as important to the patient-provider relationship. The median score was 5 out of these 20 functional criteria. Conclusion Overall, the apps reviewed were mostly stand-alone apps that do not enhance the patient-provider relationship, improve patient accountability or help providers support patients more effectively between visits. The Covid-19 pandemic has had a broad impact on the global tourism world since the end of 2019. Data shows that international tourist arrivals declined sharply in the first half of 2020 (-65%) compared to 2019. The strategy has been implemented by various special countries, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism proclaimed the principle of Adapting to New Habits (AKB) in the Indonesian tourism industry as an integral part of the permit to reopen tourism businesses and destinations. The IMR principles in Indonesian tourism are applied from a strategic and technical perspective as well as from supply chain changes to the needs and demands of the management of tourists. This research was produced to be able to see the readiness of tourist destinations in the region, especially Tourism Villages in dealing with the Covid-19 situation and conditions with several strategies that have been set by the central government starting from CHSE and digitalization for Tourism Villages. This study used a quantitative research method with a description that describes each goal starting from the 3A condition, the Health Protocol, and its digitization. This mapping is very important to determine the direction of the potential development of Cihanjawar Tourism Village as a tourist destination

Independent, democratic, and post Soviet, Kyrgyzstan or the Central Asian Kyrgyz Republic, is in the midst of multiple changes that involve its cultural identity, economic incentive structure, government, and laws, all of which have an impact on the country's educational systems and educational practices. In addition to national and local initiatives, multiple international entities, including other countries, multinational corporations, private individuals, and international non-governmental agencies are and have been involved in initiatives involving education in Kyrgyzstan since its independence in 1991 at the dissolution of the Soviet Union. These initiatives are meant to address disruption in the funding of school, libraries, educator professional development, and educational infrastructure as well as the ageing and replacement of Soviet-era curriculum materials. This paper describes multiple, simultaneous policy, outreach, and research initiatives around open education which were held at, conducted by, and participated in in Kyrgyzstan by Faculty and Library Staff at the American University of Central Asia. The paper will review recent changes in Kyrgyz Copyright law (authored in part by an AUCA law faculty member) including official recognition of Creative Commons licenses, affirmation of the Marrakesh Treaty and library roles in administering activities affiliated with the Treaty. The paper will review government, foreign government, and non-government initiatives around open education in Kyrgyzstan, and those of University networks within Kyrgyzstan. Attention will be given to the goals and methods of capacity-building consultations conducted as part of the U.S. Fulbright Specialist program at American University of Central Asia (AUCA), and an administrator/faculty/library initiated open education pilot program undertaken at AUCA. Finally, the paper will end with results from two surveys: results of student, faculty, and administrator open education pilot perception survey (December 2017), and results of a survey of 100+ faculty and librarians working in Kyrgyz institutions of higher education (October-November 2017).

Scottish Recommended Lists for Cereals 2021/22 The Scottish cereals lists include varieties of spring and winter barley, wheat and oats that are of most agronomic and commercial value to Scottish growers and the cereals sector. Recommendations are made by SRUC supported by the Scottish Variety Consultative Committee and are based on data collected as part of the AHDB Recommended List and Scottish Government National List system. Highlights for 2021/22 The spring barley list has been consolidated with the main malting choices being Laureate and LG Diablo, both dual-purpose distilling and brewing varieties, and KWS Sassy, a distilling variety. Fairing remains on the list as the only fully approved grain distilling variety. Looking ahead, SY Tungsten and Firefoxx continue to make progress as they are evaluated commercially for malting use. The only new spring barley variety is Skyway, which has potential for brewing. The winter barley list includes three new two-row feed varieties, KWS Tardis, Bolton and Bordeaux, plus two new six-row hybrids, SY Kingston and SY Thunderbolt. The leading two-row feed choices are LG Mountain, KWS Orwell, KWS Tower, Valerie and KWS Hawking. The Scottish winter wheat list has increased to eighteen varieties, twelve of which are suitable for the grain distilling market. The leading distilling varieties are LG Skyscraper, Elation and KWS Jackal, supported by the biscuit-making variety Elicit. There are five new distilling varieties, Swallow, a soft feed variety, and soft-milling choices, LG Prince, LG Illuminate, LG Quasar and LG Astronomer. The other new entry to the list is a spring feed wheat variety, WPB Escape. There are no new spring or winter oat varieties. Sixteen varieties have been removed from the lists because of limited market interest, or low agronomic value. These are spring barley varieties Concerto, RGT Asteroid, Propino and Scholar; winter barleys KWS Cassia, KWS Creswell, LG Flynn, Jordan and Libra; winter wheat varieties Zulu, KWS Lili and Grafton and spring oats Firth, Yukon, Delfin and Elison.

New York City College of Technology (City Tech) is one of 24 colleges comprising the City University of New York (CUNY), the United States' largest urban public higher education institution legislatively mandated as the "vehicle for the upward mobility of the disadvantaged in the City of New York."1 Fulfilling this mission is vital to the success of City Tech students and requires the provision of easy, consistent access to course materials across digital platforms. Panelists will trace how City Tech has been at the vanguard of transforming teaching and learning through the foundation of two significant open pedagogy initiatives on its campus. In 2011, City Tech launched the OpenLab, an open-source platform where students, faculty, and staff meet to learn and share ideas, providing opportunities for the entire college and the public to connect and collaborate. This can be difficult to achieve at an urban commuter campus. In 2014, City Tech established an OER professional development program to reconceptualize course materials and lower textbook costs for students. These two initiatives are especially noteworthy given their rooting in local needs: both have been conceived and implemented for and by the City Tech community. Panelists include the Coordinator of the OER professional development program, the Co-Director of the OpenLab, and two faculty fellows in our OER professional development program. We represent distinct disciplines (Library, English, Biology, and Social Sciences) and offer unique interdisciplinary perspectives and approaches to open education. Critical to our institution's shift to open pedagogy is our commitment to fostering learning communities across the college, including faculty communities of practice not bound by rank, department, or disciplinary silos. Panelists will share how their work, individually and collectively, has strengthened City Tech's commitment to open pedagogy and has laid the groundwork for significant cultural change across the college.

Como en nuestro número 20 -dedicado a la rebelión chilena de octubre 2019 (Alvarado Lincopi y Robles Recabarren, 2020)- hoy nos solidarizamos con les compañeres colombianes que enfrentan todavía, desde el 28 de abril, una brutal violencia por parte de las fuerzas policiales y militares del Estado, del ESMAD y de los comandos civiles armados, protegidos por la fuerza pública. This thesis studies fictional representations of Fyodor Dostoevsky in contemporary biofiction. The aim of the study is to present an intermedial theoretical framework for biofiction, a genre defined as fictional biographical and often metafictional narratives in which a biographical subject serves as the focal point for the story or plays a role integral to the narrative. Drawing on contributions from prior studies within different areas—biopics, the biographical novel, intermediality, transmedial narratology—the thesis identifies the most salient tenets of an increasingly important and ubiquitous genre—its fictional, intermedial, and metafictional properties—to suggest a medium-spanning definition. From this intermedial definition of the genre, it is suggested that biofiction studies should move beyond medium-specific analysis. By situating the genre firmly within the realm of fiction, the thesis underlines the fact that it is exactly the fictional element that allows the genre to open up important ways to engage with a certain biographical subject. Overall, the biofiction definition presented in the thesis is inspired by Jacques Derrida's différance. Arguing that contemporary biofiction arose from the larger aporetic shift in theory and fiction in the 1960s, which was directed toward various presuppositions undergirding epistemological, metaphysical, and ontological projects, it is contended that biofiction fictionalizes subjects to engage with and reassess the assumptions that suffuse our understanding of the subject. From their metafictional perspective, biofictions also employ subjects for various purposes to interrogate contemporary issues. Biofictions are thus turned toward both a historical moment and its own contemporary context. Buttressed by the intermedial perspective, it is argued that biofictions often employ sustained intermedial strategies—for instance, intermedial references and formal imitation—to engage not only with artistic subjects such as Dostoevsky and their work but also with the premises of creating art. The thesis centers on five Dostoevsky biofictions within film and literature: Aleksandr Zarkhi's biopic Twenty-Six Days from the Life of Dostoevsky (1980), Leonid Tsypkin's novel Summer in Baden-Baden (1982), J. M. Coetzee's novel The Master of Petersburg (1994), Lara Vapnyar's novel Memoirs of a Muse (2006), and Vladimir Khotinenko's television series Dostoevsky (2010). As contemporary biofictions, these fictional representations of Dostoevsky were all produced or written in the wake of the aforementioned aporetic shift and therefore comprise examples of the reflexive and metacritical form of biofiction that is discussed in the thesis. The inclusion of Dostoevsky biofictions is, in part, connected with the various critical perceptions of the writer; it is maintained that biofictions such as those analyzed in the thesis proffer new readings of issues that have been overlooked or have not received due attention, such as how Dostoevsky engaged with and augmented the rivalry polemics of his day; the ways in which his conceptualization of Russian identity rested as much on inclusion as exclusion; how Dostoevsky has been employed to propagate certain models of the muse, the genius, and canonicity; and how, in today's Russia, the writer is employed to embody and express the hyperreal politics of Vladimir Putin's administration.

News Stories Archive ; The Naval Postgraduate School mourned the loss of retired Navy Capt. Wayne P. Hughes with his passing, Dec. 3. A professor of practice in military operations research, Hughes' reputation as a naval strategist was second to none, built through his decades of experience at sea and scholarship on campus – knowledge that he freely passed on to countless naval officers over the years.
